    27th November- Christmas lights London

    Caught the 5.30 pm bus to see the Christmas lights. It was a little chilly and only a sprinkle of rain drops.

    London/Heathrow
    Temperature: 1 degrees this morning, with a high of 4 degrees.
    Spent the day walking around Central London. First went to John Lewis, then onto Selfridges. From there, we went to the Royal Albert Hall and then to V & A before heading out to our accommodation at Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport.
    The streets were busy today but not as hectic as they were when we were here last Friday. It was wonderful seeing the Christmas window displays, especially John Lewis and Selfridges. It was quite a hike to the Royal Albert Hall only to discover we weren't able to see inside, closed until next year. By then we were hungry so had lunch there, very nice. As we had time on our side, we were able to spend time at the V&A. You could spend days here but thoroughly enjoyed it. Walked to Piccadilly Circus and caught the train down to the airport.     Day 1 - London to Munich

    30 November 2023, England ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

    Temperature: -2 degrees at Heathrow Airport 6.30 am.

    Great stay at Holiday Inn Express at Heathrow Airport.
    Woke at 4 am, why!!! I don't know.
    It took an hour to get from our accommodation through to our departure lounge and all under cover. At security, they put me through the bomb detector, all clear, of course. I then had to take off my neck pouch with my passport in it, then they mislaid it, and it took a while for them to locate it again. Made my heart miss a beat.
    It's snowing. For our 1st night with our tour group, we went to a Beer House for a meet and greet as well as dinner.    Baca lagi

    Day 2 - Munich

    Temperature: 1 degree with a high of 2 degrees.

    We are staying at a place called Saint Benno, Munich.

    Even though it was a bit miserable today walking around the place and the Christmas markets, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We found the experience of the tour was not what we thought it might be. We were given an overview, and then it was up to you to get yourself back to see the places of interest. This was a bit difficult for us until we got a paper map.

    Day 3 Munich- Salzburg delayed snow

    2 Disember 2023, Jerman ⋅ ❄️ -2 °C

    Temperature: -2 at 9am/- 2 at 2 pm/ -3 at 4 pm.

    Due to the heavy snowfall, all transport has been cancelled. We were due to train from Munich to Salzburg this morning, but now we are due to depart by bus at 7 pm, fingers crossed.
    Michael chose to stay in the warm while I wanted to get out and enjoy the snow. Went back to the markets we went to yesterday. They look quite different with snow on them.

    Day 4 - Salzburg

    3 Disember 2023, Austria ⋅ 🌙 -9 °C

    Temperature: minus 3, then at 4 pm minus 7.

    Our tour leader organised a tour guide today for the walk around Salzburg. We left at 8.30 am and our guide spent nearly 4 hours showing us around. It was a wonderful experience. We bused back to our hotel and had a cup of tea, and then I caught the bus back in as I wanted to see the parade. It really was hilarious as one of the grouches chose me to have some fun with, I couldn't stop laughing. I 6 up with Kerri and Ken, part of our tour group, and we walked together. It was a bit of a billygoat walk most enjoyable.Baca lagi

    Day 5

    4 Disember 2023, Austria ⋅ ☁️ -9 °C

    Salzburg to Vienna.
    Temperature: minus 8 and at 4.30 pm minus 1, but the weather man says it feels like minus 7 outside.

    We left the hotel at 8.15 am and arrived in Vienna at 3.45 pm. It was a much longer day than anticipated. The train was over 1.5 hours late leaving , and it took a lot longer to get to Vienna because of the weather conditions. Our accommodation is a backpacker. We could have fitted our last bathroom into our room here.
    Once we dropped off of bags, we headed out in the dark for a 3 hour tour of Vienna. Michael and I were too cold to look at the last place, so we headed back to close to our accommodation and had dinner. We managed well on the underground. Julia, a lady from our tour, joined us as well.

    Day 6 Vienna

    5 Disember 2023, Austria ⋅ ☁️ -1 °C

    Temperature: minus 1 with a high of zero.
    We are going to ride the Hop On Hop Off bus today as Michael is full of a cold.
    It certainly was a full day on the buses. Caught the first one shortly after 10 am, and we were on them until the driver just stopped the bus and said to get out, his time was up, and there would be no more buses. Everyone was gob smacked. We eventually all found out that the drivers finish at their clock off time no matter where they are on the loop. Crazy, it then took a while to work out where we were and caught a couple of underground train to get us back. So, too late to go to do anything else, so we had dinner at a beer house, came back, had a shower , and jumped into bed, exhausted.
    It was a very dull and dreary day, no sun at all and was due by 3.30pm.    Baca lagi

    Day 7 Vienna to Budapest

    6 Disember 2023, Austria ⋅ ❄️ 0 °C

    Vienna to Budapest
    Temperature: Minus 1 and snowing in Vienna at 8 am with a high of 2 degrees in Budapest.

    Train left only 30 minutes late, so we departed Vienna around 11 am and arrived at our hotel 2.45 pm.
    Wet, dreary day, not very inviting at all.
    We headed out for a 2.5 hour walk around 4 pm in rain and snow in the dark in Central Budapest and, of course, the Christmas Markets. There was no time to organise anything else, so we went with the group. By the time we arrived at the restaurant at about 7.30 pm for dinner, we were all cold and soaked through. It was wonderful to be in the dry. After a pleasant evening together, we were back out in the snow and rain for a 20 minute walk to get back to our motel. I feel sad we haven't really seen Budapest but thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas Markets.    Baca lagi

    Day 8 Budapest/Frankfurt/ London

    7 Disember 2023, Hungary ⋅ ❄️ 1 °C

    Temperature: 0 degrees and snowing at 7 am. this morning. 7 degrees when we arrived in London tonight.

    What a bloody day!!!!!!
    It took us 12 hours to get from Budapest to London. We only had 2 x 1 hour, 20 minute flights. Our first flight was delayed for nearly 3 hours. This, of course, meant missing the connection, then getting seats to Heathrow was a trial, but it worked out in the end. Back in the UK, safe and sound. It's was a long and tiring day.
    It looks like a fine day in London today, so I'll leave Michael at a pub close by, and I'm heading for Harrods.

    London 8 degrees at 9 am with a high of 11 degrees about 3 pm.

    It is much warmer here. I didn't need to wear 3 or 4 layers today. It is lovely warm. Michael ended up at Starbucks while I indulged in soaking up Harrods. There were loads of people there and buying up too. I will put more pics up on Facebook.Baca lagi

    10th December

    Esher
    Temperature: 8 degrees at 7.30 am and a high of 12 degrees at 3 pm.

    I'm still not feeling the best today, but I am on the mend.
    Michael and I went for our normal morning walk this morning at 7.30 am, a very pleasant morning, not cold at all. I never tire of looking at the old houses.
    We went out to a local pub for a traditional Sunday roast. We are still not used to dogs in pubs, especially around food. But they were all well behaved.
    We took Sue, her son Michael and his wife Jo. Sue's Michael and I had lamb, Sue had Turkey, and my My Michael and Jo had the Beef.
    Had an enjoyable couple of hours together, then when we came back, I went and had a lie down. Had a lovely snooze, and when I woke up, I felt a huge change with my cold. The corner has turned, hurray!!! Roll on tomorrow.
    Applewood cheese, onion and chutney toasted sandwich for dinner.    Baca lagi

    Temperature: 11 degrees at 7.30 am and with a high of 9 degrees at 3.30 pm.

    Woke up this morning feeling much better and, of course, went out for our morning walk. A very pleasant walk, no slush around, so my shoes aren't muddy.
    Everyone, and I mean everyone, has a dog.
    Another quiet day, but I have managed to get out for a couple of long walks just to get some fresh air. A warm day and no rain.

    Temperature: 11 degrees at 7.15 am and a high of

    Caught the train to Paddington Station, where we had morning tea with one of the ladies from our Christmas lights tour.
    The train trip seemed long, but it was pleasant. We only had a small window of sun. Otherwise, the day was dull and wet, it's only 4 pm, and the sun had set. Arrived in Penzance at 5.30 pm pitch black but thank goodness our accommodation, The Longboat Inn, was opposite the station.

    13th December

    13 Disember 2023, England ⋅ 🌬 9 °C

    Penzance/St Michael's Mount
    Temperature: 9 degrees at 9 am and a high of 9 degrees at 4 pm.

    Today, we caught a taxi to Marazion so we could reach St Michael's Mount with plenty of time. Our taxi driver is a singing taxi driver so he sang a seashanty as he drove us. Sadly, the castle was closed, and it was wet, windy, and freezing 🥶. We did take a tour, and that was interesting and meet up with a couple of Kiwis from Wellington.
    Once we came back, we headed for the Information Centre regarding transport to the amphitheater and Lands End, we hope to do this tomorrow. Had a Cornish Pasty at a well-respected pastry shop, it was very tasty.
    Michael bought a paper and went back to our accommodation while I had a nosy round the op shops. Didn't buy anything 😕.    Baca lagi

    14th December - Minack Theatre

    14 Disember 2023, England ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

    Penzance/ Porthcourna/Lands End
    Temperature: 11 degrees at 8 am with a high of 11 degrees.

    It's another wet, cold, and chilly day with showers coming over frequently.
    Caught the scene bus route to the Minack Theatre. Some of those country lanes are only wide enough for one vehicle. Thoroughly enjoyed looking around at the theatre, but it certainly was a steep climb up from the bus stop. The buses run every 2 hours so caught the next bus to Lands End. We had a good walk around there before coming into the cafe to warm up and have a bite to eat. Caught the next bus back to Penzance. The pics are from Minack Theater.
    After we arrived back in Penzance I had a nosy around the 3 fabric shops and found one piece of remnant.    Baca lagi

    Penzance/Botallack/ Pendeen

    Temperature: 9 degrees at 8 am with a high of 10 degrees.

    It started out as a sunny day, but it ended clouding over with misy rain.
    We bused down to Botallack and walked the Tin Mine trails. When we eventually arrived at Geevor Tin Mine Museum, sadly closed, but thankfully, the cafe was still open, closing shortly but enough time for a hot drink. We then walked into Pendeen, where we caught the bus back to Penzance.
    We were both badly in need of a haircut and once relieved of our mops headed to have a nosy around this pretty place.

    Penzance/St. Ives

    Temperature: 11 degrees in Penzance at 8 am. A high in Penzance today was 11 degrees.

    Took the bus to St. Ives today, it was very misty, so there was no chance of any photos. The road was really narrow, barely wide enough for the bus to get through.
    I can see why St. Ives is well loved by the English for a holiday destination. It is a pretty village but really hilly. Our hotel, The Western, is very good, surprised it's only a 3 star. They let us into our room when we arrived late this morning. Spent the rest of the day walking around the place.    Baca lagi

    St. Ives

    Temperature: 9 degrees at 8 am with a high of 11 degrees at 3 pm.

    The weather today was fine, similar to yesterday, overcast, no sun but no rain either.
    We walked along the beach front from St. Ives, past Porthgwidden and up to St. Ives Heads. On the way, we came across the Tate Gallery, so we spent some time there. What a marvellous place.
    We had a crab sandwich for lunch
    Came back to our hotel where we had a cup of tea, and then I went climbing the streets again for a good hours walk. Good for the leg muscles.
    We are having a traditional Sunday roast for dinner tonight in our hotel.    Baca lagi

    St. Ives/

    Temperature: A very warm 12 degrees at 7.30 am and with a high of 12 degrees at 5 pm.

    Yah!!! The weather didn't deteriorate, so our time here in St. Ives has been, cloudy, windy but no rain.
    Today, we walked along the cliffs from St. Ives to Porthminister and onto Carbris Bay.
    It was very much up and down but most enjoyable.
    After lunch, I wondered around the shops at St. Ives one last time, then we caught a bus to Mousehole, we had dinner there, then enjoyed the Christmas lights in the harbour. When it came to returning, 2 buses never turned up, so we caught a taxis to catch another bus transfer a few ks down the road.    Baca lagi

    Temperature: Another warm 11 degrees at 8 am, but it's raining today. A high of 9 degrees at Esher.

    Trained from St. Ives to Esher, an all-day trip. Left in the dark and arrived in the dark. It was a very long and boring day. It's good to be back at Sue's.

    Temperature: 6 degrees this morning and with a high of 9 degrees.

    After what started out looking like a sunny day by lunchtime, it had clouded over and looked miserable. We went shopping for some delicious Christmas goodies and we weren't alone, everyone else had the same idea. Our last bit of shopping tomorrow of what we couldn't get today, cream and strawberries.
    This afternoon, Michael and I went along to the local church for Christmas Carols. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. I put a couple of videos up of the 2 young women singing through Messenger, but here are some pics of inside this lovely church.    Baca lagi
