Approach to the Capitol

Capitol from the Front

When I was at the back of the Capitol building I hadn't realised it was the back, until I made it around to the actual front. It was equally as spectacular from here!
National Mall

Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building

Washington Monument

Completed in 1884 as the tallest building in the world at the time, this obelisk was built in honour of, you guessed it, George Washington, the first President of the United States.

Reflecting Pool

One of the highlights towards the far end of the National Mall is the Reflecting Pool. The large man made lake reflects the Washington Monument at one end and the Lincoln Memorial at the other.

Nationals Park

Capitol Visitors Centre

The Rotunda

Straight after my tour I was booked into see the Library of Congress so I took the underground tunnel that connects the two. I can't say I saw many books but the architecture was stunning!
Supreme Court and Library of Congress

Monday there was no police cordon so I was able to see both the Supreme Court and Library of Congress from the outside, both of which look across the road to the Capitol.
