Hot springs and Antelope island

Woke up to the whistle of a 100 carriage train at 6AM… free camp sites, am I right? Drove over to the lava hot springs which were really hot! Went to do our washing in a one horse town with not much to say for itself other than it was famous for having 4 Coca Cola execs crash their private jet there in the 80s. Wouldn’t recommend Malad as a destination. Ended our day at Antelope Island which is sat in the great salt lake and boy oh boy is there a big beautiful sky here!En savoir plus

Frary peak…. Big old hike.

Woke up very early to hike to a peak and watch the sunrise. Very picturesque but had to go off trail as a bison decided it was his trail. After breakfast we hiked up frary peak, the highest peak on Antelope Island. It was a bit of a vertical slog but worth it for views and the nice Mormon family we got to chat to.En savoir plus

So, after sleeping in a parking lot we drove in to Salt Lake City - the town owned by the Latter Day Saints. Lots of young women in long skirts smiling and saying hello in an unnerving way! Nice place to visit but all under construction. Ended the night driving up a red canyon and now camped in a camp site on our own, stargazing next to a campfire.En savoir plus

Decided to stay in this campsite an extra night. Did a very steep walk… had a nice fire and curry and enjoyed the autumnal scenery. Would stay again but out of water!

Woke up very cold and done with mountain life. Had a long walk to some hot springs that were more smelly than anything… decided to stop for the night in a canyon in the desert. Feels like you are in a western here and the stars are insane. I never knew you could really see the Milky Way with the naked eye!En savoir plus

Not much to report! Very lazy start from wherever we were in the desert. Drove to Moab, next to the Arches National Park, only to find that almost every campsite was full. The landscape here is very bizarre and striking.En savoir plus

Exploring the Arches

Drove around all morning looking for a camping spot which was hilariously frustrating. Once we found one we headed into the Arches national park which was arguably the most insane landscape I’ve ever seen. Met neighbour campers who are almost certainly crack heads. Fired their paintball gun and had a chat with them…. They seemed harmless enough.En savoir plus

Hike up Grandstaff Canyon and swim

Went for a nice walk early this morn from our campsite up a canyon and watched people abseil. Walked around Moab this aft and decided it was too hot so went to find a swim!

Woke up really early to drive and subsequently hike to “delicate arch” to see the sunrise. Our plan coincided with 100 other people’s and it was rammed! Had breakfast then drove to the final part of the park and did a 12 kilometre loop to see the final arches. Pooped!En savoir plus

Left moab today via a “PowWow” which is essentially a Native American dance contest… very odd, but interesting. Drove to Indian Creek to see the world class crack climbing and had a nice chat with some climbers there; bit more of a lazy day!En savoir plus
