Arrival into Blaine, MN

We made good time over the nearly 800 nm trip. Had up to a 50 knot tailwind and covered the distance in just under four hours.

Took off to the north and once high enough, we made a right turn to the east. Clear of the terrain, we turned direct to our destination and did not vary once from the route.

Also landed straight in and we were at Malibu Aerospace just after turning off the runway.

After a lovely trip into the Minneapolis area, we woke up to this.

But we had a lovely room with a fire, although a faux fire and if a view of the water.

A stop at the Wall Drug Store…

In 1931, Ted Hustead, a pharmacist, bought Wall Drug, located in a 231-person town in what he referred to as "the middle of nowhere," and strove to make a living. Business was very slow until his wife, Dorothy, thought of advertising free ice water to thirsty travelers heading to the newly opened Mount Rushmore monument 60 miles (97 km) to the west. From that time on, business was brisk.

What a pleasant surprise our visit to K and S Lodge was. Winston & Nicolai were delightful in checking us in. Our room was spacious and comfortable and we had a view.

There is a lot of history going through Casper. We found it at a couple spots. One, the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center and two, the Fort Caspar Museum.

Togwotee Pass

The last day of our road trip took us from Casper back home to Alpine. Dubois was our choice of a lunch stop. With more than half way down for our 270 mile day, we had a lovely lunch before the last leg home.

U. S. Highway 26 took us over the Togwotee Pass. The higher we went, the wetter it got. As we crested the pass at above 9,500', we were into the snow. Fall will quickly turn to winter.

Our trip back to Alpine is complete with a ride from our friends, Mark & Leslie, who picked us up after dropping off our rental car at the Jackson Hole Airport.Читать далее

There you have it, back in Alpine after our 1,200 mile trip. It was a nice four day diversion, with approximately 18 hours of driving. While enjoying the road trip, we preferred the four hour flight from Alpine to Blaine.Читать далее
