  • Last day in georgia

    13. juni 2023, Georgia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

I've been sick ever since kazbegi and I'm 90% sure it's because of the cheese thing I ate. Mostly been resting the last couple of days.
Yesterday arvo I felt a fair bit better and bought some local fruit n veg for dinner!
Today I woke up real early and spent the morning doing one last walk around the city. I found a cool little Cafe strip alleyway that looked super nice, bummer I didn't find it earlier!
There're no chairs in this apartment and my back was getting sore so for the last couple of weeks I've been doing yoga, I can touch my toes now :)).

    Final notes for georgia:
    Great geography, hills everywhere
Great wine, especially the lighter orange stuff
    Crap food
People were nice (the few who I could speak to)
Tbilisi is very small you can walk everywhere super easy
Train system is proper soviet and its awesome
Everyone walks too slow on the footpaths and it's always too narrow to pass
Highlights: kazbegi, the Cafe with the great view at Sighnagi, bassiani (people were super welcoming there), the Ferris wheel hill walk

  • Flying to warsaw

    14. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

I had to wake up at 1am to fly to warsaw which meant I ended up being awake for a full day and a half! Luckily I was so excited I never really felt tired. Warsaw is awesome so far! Our apartment is super comfortable, were on one of the main streets that run all the way to the cbd and there're trams that come through literally every 5 seconds so it's very well situated. The planes didn't provide food so by the time I got here I was starving. I found a good looking Thai place a few days ago on maps so we unpacked and went straight there. It was the best meal I've had this trip!! I had thai orange curry with fish. Absolutely delicious. I was ecstatic :)). Next we went to the shops and bought some alcohol and energy drinks to keep us up and then spent the rest of the night watching soccer on TV. There's a pizza hut across the road so we had that for dinner. Polish pizza hut is way better than perths, I swear they wood fire their stuff here it was so crispy! Spencer's been a little on edge all day about being in a foreign city like I was when I landed in tbilisi. It's kinda nice to see how much I've settled in to being abroad.Les mer

  • Explored the cbd

    15. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today we went into the cbd to have a look around. It was really clean and there were no people wigging it in the streets like Perth. We ended up stumbling upon an old style area that was lined with lots of regal looking parliament type buildings. The carparks for the buildings were filled with crazy cars, I saw a maybach and a la Ferrari. The old area also had a bunch of nice freo style restaurants with alfresco areas to sit. We had lunch at one of the restaurants and got polish dumplings, which are called pierogis. They were insanely delicious, I got a mix of 9 different vege ones and there was only one I didn't like. It was $24ea which I feel like is pretty cheap considering we were in a very upmarket area. After lunch we kept walking through the old area and saw a big religious gathering of people wearing red robes and burning stuff in swinging cans. We checked out the river which had nothing much going on, just bushes on either side, and then came home.Les mer

  • Yummy burger and pub crawl

    16. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Went to a vegan restaurant today and had an extremely delicious tofu burger. At night we went on a pub crawl hosted by one of the hostels. It was huge, there were like 100 people and we ended up in a really cool club at the end. Made friends with a bunch of Americans and some Mexicans :). Didn't get to bed until 7am coz I got extremely lost getting home (took me like 4 hours ugh) so sorry there's not much detail on this one I'm knackered.Les mer

  • Silent disco

    17. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

I was quite hungover from the bar crawl so I just slept all day. Spencers been talking to a bunch of locals on tinder and quite a few of them mentioned a big silent disco event for pride week, so we went to that! Had pres at a guys hostel who we met from the bar crawl. The event was awesome and the people were really nice :). The bar crawl guy is American but speaks polish and he was helping us make friends with lots of locals. It was just us three together at the start but by the end of the night there mustve been like 20 people in our group all dancing together. Most of them seemed to be Ukrainian.Les mer

  • Sunday lego jungle rave

    18. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Today I had the most amazing salad for lunch. Id never ordered salad at a restaurant until today but I definitely will be from now on, the dressing was amazing!

At night we went to an event that all the locals go to on Sundays. It was a rave in an old overgrown theme park, such a cool vibe it felt like I was in a cod map. We made friends with more locals and had some beers in a park afterwards and then went to another club. Really really fun night, I think we'll be going to the Sunday rave quite a bit :). This weekends been very hectic so looking forward to a nice productive and healthy week. Spencer lost his phone which sucks :/Les mer

  • Wholesome mornings and an art gallery

    22. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

My morning routine for the past few days has been: waking up, doing yoga, reading and then going for a run. Inspiring stuff lol. Making a note of it to see how long I keep it up for.

This afternoon we met one of our polish friends named Joseph and he took us to an art gallery. The art was very classical looking and was mostly about nationalism and existentialism. Even though art from this era isn't really my jam it was really cool to soak up a bit of polish history! After the art gallery we all bought some beers and chilled at the rivers edge for a while. I made shakshuka for dinner which I have been dreaming about since I left Perth, it was amazing!!Les mer

  • Birthday

    24. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Had a great birthday, thanks for all your calls and texts :))

Had a chill day and then went to the pierogi place we went to on the first day. Got the same thing and it was superb again. Tried a lot of polish vodka which was honestly not too dissimilar to normal vodka but they had it flavoured with stuff! My favourite vodka had chilli in the bottom (the red one) which was a weird surprise coz I assumed it would be strawberry, it was invigorating! Went to a bar afterwards and hung out with more polish people :).

That street gets blocked off on weekends and it's full of restaurants n bars. Its like the Northbridge of warsaw.

  • Thrift pop-up

    25. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Had the Thai we got on the first day again, which was great again. Then went to a thrift popup in the city and got a cool jacket thingy for 70 bucks :)).

  • Thrifting in actual shops this time

    27. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

When we went to the vintage pop up the other day we learned that the people running those stalls just trawl through goodwill stores to get all their cool clothes, so today we went to do that too. Our polish friend Joseph picked us up and took us to a couple places. He drives possibly the most beat up car I've ever been in. At one point we hopped in and his car battery had died so he just casually got out and said "damn we have to take the bus now", in the end we messed with a few things and made his car start again :).
Didnt find any clothes and was reminded how tedious thrift shopping is. After that we went to a local bar and had a few drinks (I got a vodka sour for the first time which was suuuper tasty!!!). We went to the "beach" and then Joseph let us have a look around his grandpa's painting studio which was definitely the highlight of the night. Beyonce was performing in the stadium and we could hear her concert everywhere we went, it was pretty cool.

  • Polish haircut

    28. juni 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Got my hair bleached in an actual salon for the first time today. It cost $180 and took 3.5 hours. Overall the experience was very nice and I'm glad I tried it once. I got to have a go in one of the steam machines they have, I was in there for a good 30 minutes and honestly I feel like it cooked my brain a little, I felt pretty weird by the end ahaha. While I was in the steamer I accidentally bonked my head on the edge and scraped some bleach off, kinda freaked out and made it way worse trying to fix it :/ in the end I had to get the guy to help even it out lol. I was on the fence about getting toner but the guy washed my hair and then did it before I even knew, it was nice get a super long head massage but I think maybe he was a little heavy handed with the toner coz my hair is a little bit purple now :/. All good though it'll wash out soon. Can't comment on how good a bleach job he did but he was very thorough so I'm sure it's fine :)).

Also i noticed today someone's got a beehive setup on their balcony wtf!?!

  • Going to netherlands (bad)

    29. juni 2023, Nederland ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Spencer really pissed me off this morning. Took forever getting up, tried to make pasta for breakfast even tho he woke up 2 hrs before departure, would've left dirty dishes while we went away, and cost us both $80 for not reading the checkin rules properly (had he just sent me the tickets one of the 50 times Id asked for them that wouldn't have happened). I was waiting in the uber out the front and honestly was about 30 seconds away from just full on leaving him behind. What a buffoon 😡😡😡

In netherlands I saw a building with wind turbines on the roof instead of solar panels. I thought that was cool :)

  • Going to netherlands (good)

    29. juni 2023, Nederland ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

The public transport in Netherlands is great! We had to commute a very long way and the longest we waited at a stop was probs 10 minutes, hell yeah! The intercity train was super comfortable ($40) and the buses were more like coaches than the ones we have ($30). It was cloudy today so I don't think I got to really appreciate how great the countryside looked but I was still very impressed, lovely green paddocks and quite a few of those quintessential Dutch windmills, plenty of solar and wind turbines going on too :)). We're right on the outskirts of rotterdam and when we got here nothing was open for dinner so we had to quickly catch a ferry to get some chips n bread and lollies for dinner. Yum! Sunset pic taken at 940pm whatLes mer

  • Rolling loud n some pics of our town

    2. juli 2023, Nederland ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Rolling loud was aight, lean and aitch were highlights. Got some delicious fish nuggets from a food van across the river from our house they were amazing. Spencer made us miss the bus coming home from the festival so we had to hire a bike to get home. Google maps took us a weird way and for a while we were talking shortcuts through farm fields, i was pretty mad but that part was cool, there were lots of cows and it was pretty tranquil.
The town we stayed in was super cool, by far the nicest place I've stayed so far, everything was green and all the gardens were immaculate.

  • Found a great market near our apartment

    3. juli 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Went to a vege market that I've been riding the tram past all the time. It was great! I was there for ages because I wanted to make a leek pasta recipe that Christie showed me but I couldn't find the anchovies. Mum, dad and ethan were on video call helping me look ahahah. All that roaming around was definitely worth it because the pasta was the best! I also got some salad dressing so I'll be able to go back tomorrow n get things for a salad. I'm trying to be healthy after netherlands coz I basically only ate chip sandwiches the entire time there. Also finally found skittles in a big packet hell yeh!Les mer

  • Movies and my new fav club!

    5. juli 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Today Spencer made banana pancakes for breakfast and then in the evening went to the movies to see Indiana Jones with Joseph, Stephen and one of their friends. The theatre was inside Stalin's tower of culture and science (the big old looking one). Most of us slept through the movie and then afterwards we went to a club that only plays jungle! I was very very into it :). After the club everyone came back to our place to dj and make music. Stephen is a producer too, him n I took it real serious and had a mammoth producing sesh it was awesome. Everyone left around 630 and I spent the rest of the day nursing a truly horrible headache ahaha. Went to a vego place for dinner :).Les mer

  • Playboi carti in belgium

    10. juli 2023, Belgia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    Our itinerary for carti was:
22 hrs bus, arrive at liege at 10am, look around the city during the day, get to the festival in the evening, have a nap under a tree until 8am, then take a bunch of trains to get home by 6pm.

Up until the trains everything went to plan. The bus was super uncomfortable and long, both of us got a tummy bug for some reason, which made it really miserable.
Liege was really nice! We got Belgian waffles for lunch which were delicious and then chilled out the front of a supermarket for pres. The supermarket was chock full of festival goers buying drinks and having their pres too, so it was actually really fun. I'd had a terrible tummy ache all morning but it miraculously got better after my first sip of beer! There were so many people at the festival, more than I think I've ever seen anywhere. The carti show was amazing too, so much energy, it was probs the best live show I've seen :)). The mosh was so hot that afterwards we were dripping wet with sweat (it was like wed jumped into a pool with our clothes on), which meant we had to sleep in wet clothes ew. We found a park to sleep in and stayed from like 2 till 6, surprisingly, I slept till about 5 so it really wasn't that bad! Then everything got messed up. Google maps isn't as accurate with these trains as it has been with everything else, so we ended up getting on the wrong train. This meant we were going to miss every other train that we'd booked, we were 2hrs behind. I managed to fix it though, we had to sneaking onto trains and act confused for the ticket checkers but it was looking like we were still going to get to warsaw by 11pm. Then our second last train took 2hrs longer than expected so we missed the last train to warsaw. This meant we had to buy last minute bus tickets, wait in Berlin until 1130, and then endure another extremely uncomfortable 8hrs on a bus. We got back home at 8am.

Carti was awesome but nothing is worth the amount of effort and discomfort we had to go through. Were both sick now because we haven't slept or eaten properly in 3 days.

  • Vegan place and josephs place again

    13. juli 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Went to our polish friend Joseph's house to play ps5 last night. Last time we only went into his dad and grandpa's art studio but this time we saw his actual apartment which was super cool too! Today we went back to the vegan place which was yum :).

    Berlin tomorrow woohoo!!!

  • First two days in berlin

    16. juli 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Bad train ride got delayed a bunch but all g coz berlin has been awesome so far!!
We've been clubbing both nights and then mostly just sleeping during the days. Clubbing here works the same as georgia so we've been arriving at 2 or 3 am and then staying until like 8. They make you put stickers over your phone cameras and you get kicked out for taking pictures. Lots of concrete and smoke and reeeally good techno, easily the funnest clubs I've been to! Yesterday we went out for a fancy dinner where they serve you like 10 courses, it was mostly fresh vegetable dishes with nice sauces. My favourite course was a ground up fish patte type thing call brandade, it went super well with the wine, I want to make it and put it in sandwiches :)).Les mer

  • Best dinner !!!

    17. juli 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today I got up super early and was real bored waiting for everyone to get up so I decided I'd quickly check out the berlin wall. I hired a scooter and was really carving it up around the streets coz it was early and no one was around to get in the way. I took a pic in front of the part of the berlin wall that fell, I think, I didn't read any of the plaques so i don't know for sure. Me and Christie shared an omelette and French toast for breakfast, the Cafe we went to served the thickest slices of toast I've ever seen, they were like 5cm!!! Super delicious. We went to an art gallery that was pre boring and then went thrifting for the rest of the day, unfortunately didn't find anything but got to explore the nicer side of berlin which was a pleasant change. Were staying in the northbridge of berlin so there's rubbish everywhere and loads of graffiti, it was good to see that berlins not like that everywhere. For dinner we went to an amazing tapas place and ordered like 20 things, it was so filling and probably the best food I've had all trip!

Spencer was worried he didn't look gay enough for the clubs here so that's what he wore last night ahahaha. I was too sick so got an early night instead :).

  • Last day in berlin

    19. juli 2023, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Yesterday we went shopping for the 1st half of the day. I got two really cool pairs of pants a white shirt and a singlet. I was trying to get my Greek summer outfits ready and now I just need some button up shirts. In the afternoon we explored some historically significant places in Berlin. We went to parliament house, the beginning of the road to hamburg (I think) and Checkpoint Charlie. We read a lot about ww2 which was pretty heavy and as a result I sort of forgot to take pictures, woops. In the evening we went to a seafood restaurant and had oysters and sashimi, it was delicious and was made even better by the wine we bought :). Christie and connor left at 3am this morning. Spencer and I spent the morning walking around trying to find Banksy art in the streets but all of the spots we checked had been painted over arghh (eg. last two photos). We also got in trouble for not buying train tickets, luckily the people were stupid and I was able to convince them my name was James Darcy so no fine for me!! They messed up spencers ticket too ahahaha.Les mer

  • Recovering

    24. juli 2023, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

This month's been very hectic and unhealthy for the most part. Spencer and I have both been sick for almost 3 weeks now so for the last couple of days we've been settling into a more sustainable lifestyle and actually trying to get some work done for a change :)).
Weve still done a couple of cool things tho. Two nights ago we went to a polish soccer game. The atmosphere was super energetic and everyone stood the whole time. The boss of the police supports the other team so there were police everywhere stopping people coming in if they went for warsaw and no one was allowed to drink. That policeman seems like a bit of a madman, apparently last year he accidentally shot a grenade launcher inside the police headquarters!!! Joseph had a house party for Stephens birthday the night before that. It was pretty small but still cool. I got everyone to play beer pong which they don't normally do :).

  • Urbexing and pierogis again

    27. juli 2023, Polen ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Last night we finally went and explored the abandoned construction site across from our apartment. It's a really popular spot, we're always seeing people roaming around up there. The place was super cool and the view was awesome. A few weeks ago I saw a girl sit on the edge which looked insane and ive been psyching myself up to do it ever since ahahaha. In the end i managed to do it but I was beyond terrified, its by far the scariest thing I've done since the gloster tree in Pemberton. Today we went to the same great pierogi place for a third and final time. We got raspberry dessert pierogis this time which were quite nice but we ordered too much and got really full so couldn't enjoy them fully. Also got a polish bahn mi from the same great Thai place, it was really nice but slightly worse than friendship. It's been a good productive couple of days :)).Les mer

  • Milan with Christie

    29. juli 2023, Italia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

I had the best weekend ever!!!! Yesterday I flew to milan to hang out with Christie for the last two days of her holiday. The plane was really empty and I managed to get a full row to myself :). First thing we did was have lunch. We got a margarita pizza and mushroom pasta which were both incredibly delicious. The pasta has a bit more of a taste than normal, I thought it faintly tasted like gingerbread, very subtle but definitely nicer. The pasta sauce was cream based but not as rich as i expected, it tasted amazing but I'd imagine I'd be able to eat way more before I would start to feel sick. Easily up there with some of the best pasta I've had :), the pizza was pretty normal. After lunch we went and saw some landmarks (Duomo di Milano Cathedral & Galleria Vittoria Emanuele) we explored for a couple of hours and got granitas afterwords because it was quite warm. For dinner we were still a little full from lunch so we just got wine and a cheese platter with heaps of sauces and bread. It all tasted so good but I was most surprised by the cherry tomatoes, usually I don't like tomatoes but these ones were really nice. We also got ravioli but were too full to eat it so ended up saving it for breakfast. One weird thing about dinner was that they served us our wine in bowls??? We tried to look up if thats a thing that happens sometimes but couldn't find much, very weird. Yesterday was definitely one of the highlights of my trip so far.

Today the mood was a lot more sombre. We woke up and explored a Saturday food market, ate some figs, and then slowly made our way to the airport. Christies flight was a few hours before mine so we both ended up waiting at her gate saying goodbye for quite a long time, it wasn't very nice :/.
