    14 Mile - Coral Bay

    10 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The boys took me out squiding today, and on my first cast I caught this monster. While I was waiting for Brett to net the squid, Brax had already caught a squid and as he lifted in the boat he squirted its ink all over me and the boat, I was coated from my toes to my hat and so was most of the boat 😂😂. It was so much fun and very action packed, as we were all catching squid after squid.

Then it was off to find a spot to fish. When we were in Carnarvon, both of the kids bought themselves new fishing rods and they were very keen to try them out. We found a spot and both boys got onto the cod, unfortunately they were not keepers today.

Brett and I were both feeling a bit sick after being in the boat so it was time to head in.

After we finished up with school work, we headed down the beach for the day. Brett and Shaun were out fishing.

The boys tried out their new snorkels and Lyla even gave hers a go, she is keen to go out and see some sharks now.

Then unfortunately, it is our last night, so a sunset walk, fire and fresh fish for dinner. It must have be the day for trying new things because Shaun even ate the fish for dinner ( Not that I really think he enjoyed it that much!)

Apparently, Brett and Shaun are spango kings now 😂😂, not that Kat and I are complaining 😋.

5 of these big babies today, they are getting a bit fussy now they are catching the good stuff and are even throwing the little stuff back as they don’t want to have to fillet it.

It’s quite funny as the little stuff they are throwing back is what we would have classed as a big fish when they were fishing back home. Oh how the times have changed. I don’t know how we will ever go back to fishing the lakes at home again.

    14 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We didn’t let the wind get us down.

We started the day with a walk to the point and even know it was windy the sun was hot.

The kids have made themselves an awesome little cubby next to the caravan in the trees, they have been spending all their time in there. They have decked it out with their chairs and toys. I love the creative games they have been playing.

Brett spent time doing some fixing jobs, the outside fridge, the inside fridge, the CD player in the car, the inside fridge again, and again 😩! Then he decided to sit down and just waited for something else to break 😂!

We headed down the beach and found a spot where the sand dune blocked the wind and set up. It was hot, but the water was bloody cold! The kids had a blast collecting jelly fish. All we could hear from the sand was “I got another jelly blubber”. They worked together and filled Lyla’s beach cart to the brim. Apparently they sting, but none of the kids got stung in the process of collecting jelly blubbers 🤷‍♀️. They then proceeded to use them for ‘cooking’ and making interesting sand castles. The poor jelly blubbers 😕.

We certainly have been reaping the rewards of the boys fishing trips, another delicious fish dinner with some farm fresh veggies from Carnarvon. Poor Shaun, once again had to make himself dinner, as he does not eat fish. Kat likes to join us for our fish dinners so she doesn’t feel like she is eating on her own.

Another epic sunset to finish off the night, it may have been a windy day, but it sure was productive.

North West Cape - Ningaloo Coast

    15 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Well it was blowing a gale today, so we got up early and decided to go exploring. Apparently Exmouth is sunny 320 days a year, I think we are here for the 45 cloudy ones 😂😂.

We headed up the North West Cape and explored Cape Range. Our first stop was the Yardie Creek crossing, then we were off the horrid corrugations and back on to tar! We tackled the Yardie Creek Gorge walk which had stunning views and we all managed not to get blown off the top.

We drove in and checked out all the recommended snorkelling spots on the way up the cape so we knew which one to come back too.

Brett got a surf in at Surfers Beach with about 100 backpackers, while we went to the Jurabi Turtle Centre. When we got there we discovered it was nothing more than a turtle statue and a wall with some turtle facts! To say the kids were disappointed was an understatement.

Then we headed back to Turquoise Bay to do the ‘snorkel drift’. We saw some very large fish and a turtle. He was not as playful as our last turtle friend, this one just wanted to eat and was not interested in swimming with us.

    South Lefroy - Snorkelling Adventures

    18 июня 2021 г., Indian Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We spent hours here the last 2 days snorkelling and exploring the amazing reef. Today we brought the boat with us so we could get a bit further out and not get exhausted swimming through the strong current to get out.

The best spot was where we found some large coral bommies. Each time we came through we saw numerous turtles, sharks and an abundance of fish. We found a large turtle sleeping amongst the coral and rocks, at first we thought he may have been dead, but when Brett swam down for a closer inspection and gave him a pat he woke up and swam off.

My favourite bit is when we come upon the large schools of fish and there is just hundreds of fish swimming around you in a circular motion, it is just something I have never seen before. There is usually 3 to 4 different kinds of fish and somehow they are all able to stay together in their own schools but move in the same direction as the other fish without all getting mixed up together.

The kids saw their first reef shark when snorkelling today, they were very excited to have swam with a shark.

North Lefroy - Bryron Turns One

    18 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

What a place for Byron to celebrate his 1st birthday. I don’t know who was more excited ( actually I do, it was definitely Brax 😆), Brax was first up and waiting to give Byron his present.

Lyla, Lachlan and Brax then had a lovely morning playing with all the new toys 😂. Bryon played with one of Lachlan’s old trucks, but it was still new to Bryon. I think I was a bit of a trade off on Lachlan’s behalf so he could play with Byron’s new trucks!

Then thanks to Bryon and his early bedtime we all got to have cake before dinner, it was delicious.

    19 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We wanted to stay longer at North Lefroy, but it is so booked out along the Ningaloo Coast . We could only get one more night, but luckily for us it was a lovely beach front site.

The boys went out fishing again, but no luck again, Brett's shark even got sharked!

We spent the day in the sun, collecting shells and finished up our time at North Lefory with a sunset fire, the care takers Cherry and Lee came down for the night and taught us a new card game, Kings. A great way to end our time here.

As a final farewell, as we were driving out, we saw some emus on the beach. It’s not everyday you see that. Brett stopped the car so I could run out and get photos.

Oh yeah, I have been waiting to get here to try their famous scones, and they did not disappoint. We had breakfast in their beautiful homestead garden, fresh scones jam and cream for all.

Then we went for a drive out to the Exmouth Gulf, which was a 4WD through Bullara Station's private land. Lachlan caught a flathead, so Brett cooked it up straight away on the fire.

Luckily, we made it back to camp in time for damper night, cooked by John who came to stay at Bullara for 2 nights in 2018 and is still here.

    24 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The kids had fun at the movie night in the Woolshed. It also gave the parents a few hours to ourselves.

The kids got a chance to pat Maggie the resident kangaroo who was hand raised and comes when called by her name.

We all went and did the beer bottle walk together and saw some of the animals on the station. One of the horses was not to friendly and tried to give Lyla a little nip when I picked her up to give him a pat. I felt really bad until I looked at Kat who could not control her laughter!

    Karijini Free Camp

    28 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

What a view from our camp, Mount Bruce.

The trains are great, at about 4pm the mining trains start to come past and run most of the night. The kids run out and signal for the driver to toot his horn, and he does every time. I think it took them a while to realise that all trains honk their horn to make sure there is no cars on the crossing as they go past. It is still very quite.

The kids are having a ball on the red dirt, upturning rocks and collecting lizards. It’s impossible at this point to keep them clean so there is no point trying. They are red, there clothes are red, their shoes are red, their sheets are red, even their hair has turned red 😂😂.

    Hamersley Gorge - Karijini

    29 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Our first gorge at Karijini was Harmersley Gorge and Spa pool. We got there early to try and avoid the rush. We had heard the water was freezing, but we are living by the moto no regrets, so in we jumped. Lachlan panicked a bit as he had trouble breathing once he jumped in, but once we started moving it was not to bad. We swam across the gorge and over to the spa pool. The spa pool was much warmer as the water was coming in from a waterfall off the rocks which had been warmed by the sun. It was an amazing little private pool and we were lucky enough to get it to ourselves for a family swim.Читать далее

Today we explored Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool. Both were stunning, but my favourite part was the 2km walk down Fortescue falls and through the gorge. It was a stunning walk, but it was also lots of fun, jumping on stepping stones, climbing over rocks and navigating rock edges. The kids had a ball. The last bit was a killer, it was a steep climb to get out of the gorge and poor Kat was carrying Byron on her back and Brett had Lyla! It was hard enough with no kids on your back!Читать далее

Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool 2

    30 июня 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

After lunch at Circular Pool lookout ( the pool had been closed due to a rock fall recently). We headed to the information centre to buy our Karijini sticker. Whilst we were there, the kids meet a lovely lady Kaylene, who spent a good hour with the kids teaching them about the local Aboriginal heritage of Karijini. She took the kids around the centre explaining the Aboriginal different tribes, the meaning of the goanna to Karijini, how to say different animals using the local Aboriginal language and respecting the National park. She was so lovely, she did it all using stories that the kids would understand. The boys were so interested in everything she had to say. It was the the best information centre we have been to and you could tell that Kaylene was passionate about passing on her knowledge. This is the type of activity I have been hoping to involve the kids in as we travel. The boys are now ‘ junior rangers’ and are waiting for their badges to be posted out. Lachlan is taking his role very seriously and and has even said he wants to be a ranger when he grows up.Читать далее

We were on our way to Joffrey Falls when we decided to go to Hancock Gorge instead. It was a great decision because we got to get there before the rush and had Kermit Pool to ourselves.

This has been my favourite gorge walk and pool so far, it was a fun walk through waist deep water and scaling along rock walls to get to Kermit pool. As you came though the gorge there was a natural rock slide which Lachlan jumped straight onto sliding down into the water. The boys had so much fun running up and sliding back down.Читать далее

    Tom Price Mine Tour

    5 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The mine tour was a coach ride through a working Rio Tinto mine site just out of Tom Price. We exited the coach once to look at the pit and trucks driving past, the scale of everything was mind blowing. The tour guide was very informative, we learnt so much in an hour. Some of the facts we could remember for the following topics were as follows:

    The Mine:
    - They mine ion ore which is dark grey but it turns red as it oxidises
    - 16 mines in the area and one new one will be opening soon

    Trains:
    - If the trains have a blue light on the front they are autonomous,
    - Diesel train engines power huge generators that provide power to electric wheel motors to push and compressors for air braking
    - They use three engines to pull, they can also use three on the back to slow it down after helping to push it up hill
    - They carry up to 250 carriages
    - Each carriage weighs 10 ton and they load it with 110 ton of iron ore
    - it takes only 19 seconds to load each carriage with 110ton
    - train constantly moves at 1-2 kilometres per hour
    - It takes an hour and a half to fill a train with 5 million dollars of ion ore

    Tip Trucks:
    - Each wheel weighs 4ton
    - 6 wheels on each and hence 24 ton all up. -Wheels are as tall as the bus
    - Trucks weigh 200 ton and can Carry 250 ton.
    - 16 cylinder 2000hp Diesel engine that run big generators to power the electric wheel motors on the rear, like a train
    - They Carry 4000 litres of fuel and use 25l per kilometre when loaded going up hill
    - They re-fuel approximately every 24 hours.

    Power station:
    - Runs on gas turbines
    - gas is piped from 130 kilometres away
    - Each 1 meter of pipe weighs 1.4 ton because it is so re-enforced.

    Travel Days

    6 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

On our way to Port Headland we saw one of the biggest over sized vehicles we have seen yet! At 8.5 meters wide these buckets took up the entire road.

    Port Hedland

    12 июля 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Lachlan can finally stop asking how many more sleeps until we get to Aunty Mel’s place because we are here and we have invaded her house!

Nan and pop are here too and we have been exploring Port Hedland. We have been to Kmart 😂😂 for a shopping spree and nan and pop shouted maccas! We have been to nearly all the parks around town and had a great time exploring the old trains and mining trucks.

The boys have been fishing and cleaned up on their first trip out.

Everyone has been loving the unlimited wifi 😂!
