Gibb River Road Day 2 - Lennards Gorge

    11 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 2
Day 2 - Lennards Gorge and Bell Creek Free camp

Lennards Gorge is probable the scariest walk we have done yet. We were the first and only people there, as we started to walk the track in I heard a rustling, I saw a black snake in the bush! Next thing Brett yells “run” and we all going flying backwards and this massive black snake comes flying out of the bush along the path. We all may have screamed a little. We decided it would be best to go back to the car and get the snake bite kit. Better to be safe than sorry. I then let Brett take the lead, halfway along the track we had another snake scare! We were all on edge, when three little birds suddenly came flying out of the long grass on the side of the track absolutely scaring the shit out of all of us, we all nearly started to turn and run backwards thinking that the rustling sound was another big snake. Lachlan commented that his legs felt like jelly because he was so scared 😦. We finally made it safely to the gorge.

The gorge was not amazing from the look out and we were extremely hot so we decided to climb down the side of the gorge to the water. It was stunning from below and we had the pools all the ourselves. Due to the impromptu swim there was a bit of nudity, as we had not packed swimwear.

We scored another awesome free camp at Bells Creek. It was right on the creek which was full of water, so we could spend the afternoon taking dips to cool down.

I decided to play some games with the kids. First we played boxes, then we moved onto hangman. The kids got the first 3 letters ‘pea’ I thought they had it for sure, I said what word states with “pea”. Lachlan yells “peanut”, after explaining it can’t be peanut because he has already said, n, u and t and they are not in the word he then yells “penis” 😂. Which technically does have the word pea at the start. We had another spelling lesson. They guessed a few more letters and got the word ‘peacock’. Brax then says at the end “ I wish the word was penis” 🤣🤣 boys!

Another late night for us ( 7.45pm).

ПутешественникI went to get my camera out to get a photo of the friary snake, and that’s when it came flying back out at us 😬. I kind of expected it to keep going away into the bush, not come back out! It was terrifying ( but funny now looking back) .

Gibb River Road Day 3 - Bell Gorge

    12 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 3
    Bell Gorge

I am loving how helpful the kids are being, they are putting up the tent, blowing up the air beds, making the beds and helping to pack it all away again. It is making life so relaxing.

Today we explored Bell Gorge, we were worried it may not be running as we left coming to the Gibb very late in the season, but it was spectacular.

We spent the whole day swimming and exploring all the different pools. Many people don’t know that if you swim past the main pool you can swim through three or so other pools to an even more spectacular sheer drop waterfall.

The kids ( and Brett and I) had a ball slipping and sliding on all the rock slides.

Then another relaxing evening back at camp.

Gibb River Road Day 4- Galvans Gorge

    13 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 4
    Galvans Gorge

Galvans Gorge was a nice short walk from the car park. The kids were excited because as we approached they could see a rope swing being used. Lachlan instantly asked if he could go on the swing.

After a quick swim, Lachie and Brax spent the next three or so hours on the rope swing. Another family came down with kids the same age and joined in the fun. Eventually we had to drag the kids out to head back for lunch ( it was now 3.30 🤣🤣).

After an early dinner, we all chilled out in bed and watched a movie. It was conveniently about a giant crocodile who attacks people (great choice on downloading Brax). Even after watching a movie we were all still asleep by 8pm 🤣. It’s very exhausting on the Gibb.

Gibb River Road Day 5 - Manning Gorge

    14 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 5
    Manning Gorge

This gorge you start straight up having to swim across a river to get to the start of the walking track, but before we even got to the river crossing the kids discovered a rope swing. An hour later, after we all had multiple turns on the swing and were nice and cool we started the walk.

The station, provided tubs to put all your things in and tow them across the river, so at least we could keep the bag and our shoes dry.

It was a long hot walk with no shade, lucky we were reward with a large beautiful swimming hole at the end. As soon as we got there Lachlan spotted a rock jump! We could barley hold him back. The rest of the afternoon was spent watching the boys ( all three of them) jump from varying rock jumps. Lachlan the dare devil went from the highest rock jump with Brett.

Brax was practicing his dives and Brett was giving pointers when a nearby backpacker ( who happened to be very attractive and wearing a gstring) comments that she was a dive instructor and would Brett mind if she took over helping. Brett of course did not mind at all, Brax being just a bit to young to appreciate what was going on. She did a wonderful job and had Brax diving almost perfectly in 5 mins.

The walk back was ridiculously hot, we were all dying by the time we got back to the river crossing, but the best thing about Manning Gorge is that you get to swim at the end of your walk, you swim across the river and are at the car park! If only all the gorges were like this!

After a cool of in the water we were all straight to the car for an icy cold soft drink and back to the shop for an ice cream.

We spent the night camped up at a quite little bush camp, opposite Adcock Gorge, ready for our morning walk and swim.

Gibb River Road Day 6 - Adcock Gorge

    15 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 36 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 6
    Adcock Gorge

We nearly bypassed this little gem. The reviews on Wiki camps were that the pool was stagnate and no good for swimming, but then the Frenchies that we had seen at all the gorges said it had been their favourite and the water was beautiful. So on our way back down the track we called in and boy are we glad we did, not only did we pretty much get this gorge mostly to our selves, it was stunning and only a 5min walk from the car park ( thank goodness as we were all feeling a little worse for wear today!).

We swam and laid on the rocks like lizards. The kids tried hard to spear the fish that were swimming in the gorge.

A little while later after we had been swimming and talking to a family that had turned up, a big croc submerged in the middle of the water. I was not quick enough to grab my camera, he had a breath, looked around and was gone again.

After a day of lazing around it was time to move on, we had a big drive as we decided we were going to do Windjana gorge in the morning. We got to a free camp, but got creeped out. There was items left behind and it was very isolated, so we left and went to the paid camp at Windjana. $40 to camp on a patch of dirt 😩, also as we drove in we got a flat tyre. We made it along the whole Gibb with no car troubles and then at a camp ground get a nail in our tyre! Brett was spewing.

Windjana you better be worth it 🤣

Gibb River Road Day 7 - Windjana Gorge

    16 сентября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

    Gibb River Road Day 7
    Windjana Gorge

Our last stop on the Gibb, Windjana Gorge. We set our alarms and got up early to see the sunrise over the gorge. It was spectacular, the sun lit up the rock walls turning them all different shades of orange.

We were the first ones along the track, so we made sure to be extra quite so we did not scare off any wild life. Along the way we saw Black tailed rock wallabies, could hear and see an abundance of birds and of course there was plenty of fresh water crocs to be seen.

    Windjana was a magical place.

It was a beautiful way to end our trip along the Gibb River Road.

    Middle Lagoon - The Dampier

    2 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I said to Brett, “this time we are actually going to leave Middle Lagoon and explore more of The Dampier Peninsula”. So today, as it was so windy at camp, we made our way up to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm for some lunch. After lunch, we checked up Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat, where Brett and Joel did their good deed for the day and helped an old couple get their motor home out of a tricky situation.

When we returned home we wondered why our two vans were the only ones left on the cliff. When I opened the van door I discovered why 😳! The wind must have gotten drastically worse over the day and we had left 2 windows open, every inch of the van was coated in red dirt! Not what I wanted to come home too.

Just having a leisurely swim with TIAV1Brett enjoying a beer in his beer holder, thanks Justin 😁Brett heading out for a fish with JustinJack, Billy, Lachie and BraxIf the kids were not collecting hermit crabs or swimming, they were having sand ball fights 😆Jack, Billy, Lachie and Brax1

Middle Lagoon - Hanging with TIAV

    6 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

What a great day! One that will put a smile on my face for a very long time 😁
We woke to sunshine and a beautiful morning followed by some loaded omelettes (egg, milk, cheese, ham, salami, sun dried tomato and jalapeños) all on wholemeal toast…… yum yum yum.
Down the lagoon we went for high tide at 10.30am and we had the lovely clear blue water to ourselves except for a couple of gatecrashing legends... TRIP IN A VAN 😊
The kids played for hours and the adults lazed about both in and out of the water. Justin shouted me a beer when he heard I was on rashins and even threw in a TiAV beer cooler, I was totally stoked! I love beer coolers.
After a few more bevies and many wind checks Justin said he was heading out for a trawl and he offered me a ride in the makocraft. We trawled with no luck but my consolation prize was a ride in the Big Chopped 200 Series, what a BEAST! And with a purr that would put the worst of babies to sleep (I miss my V8 😔)
However my day was not done, I had a feeling the fish would be on late in the day. The kids played with hermit crabs while Justin kicked back with a beer (I mean supervised lol) and I launched the tinny. It was rough but man it was worth it, 5-6 kilometres south I headed and the water was alive, birds diving, dolphins splashing, fish breaking the surface and sharks lurking. Every troll was a Macky in seconds however they were only 60-80cm. I pulled up and had a spin with the big lure, second cast and the water erupted, I had hooked a good fish however it started to become unstoppable and I felt I’d been sharked, get the lure back was now the priority. After a couple of minutes the monster surfaced and it was a HUGE COBIA. How was I to get it in the boat, I thought about grabbing it but I wouldn’t have had a chance so I tried the net. I got it on the second attempt but as I lifted it one handed I broke the handle and the net fell in the water. I reached for the nett and luckily the Cobia’s head was still in it thanks to the tangled lure which had managed to hook the net now as well. With a heave and a hoe I lifted it in without tipping the boat and man it was heavy.
After some showing off and filleting I celebrated at the camp with a bottle of brown brothers Prosecco, a camp fire, and some soy soaked Mackerel lightly fried then eaten with lettuce leaves, rice, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
What a memorable day I will never forget
    Yew! 🤙

Middle Lagoon - How do you leave?

    7 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We had to make the call that this would be our last day at Middle lagoon, the milk ran out this morning, the beers ran out last night, the wraps are gone and any minute now we will run out of gas 😬.

We made the most of our last day, we got up and the wind had dropped off, so the kids got one last fish in. Then we spent high tide at the lagoon swimming and sun baking with TIAV.

The kids have had a great 2 weeks. They have had Aunty Melly, almost uncle Joel and Taj here, caught up with their friends the Salt Water Ratbags and then when they all left they had their other friends, Jack and Billy from TIAV roll in.

To top it all off they are leaving with a new pet each .

Hermit Crabs in the caravan 😬😆😳👏😂

    The kids new pets

    8 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

So Lachlan convinced us to let him keep a hermit crab as a pet! So the last night at Middle Lagoon Brax and Lachie went off to go and pick their Hermies.

I told Lachlan that if he wanted one he would have to research and find out what they eat and how to look after them. He was happy to do this, he could not wait until we got reception. As he started to read he got excited about what they ate and what he needed to get, until it came to the part that they were nocturnal and that you had to put their food out at night. He then thought about this and became a bit upset and disheartened. When I asked what is wrong, he said that he picked a pet that would be asleep when he was awake and wanted to play with it and then when he went to bed at night it would get up 😕.

He decided to keep the hermit crab, he found shells and rocks to decorate the hermit crabs home. He even wanted to buy it treats at the shop.

Apparently they can live up to 10 years if looked after properly. So let’s see how we go…..

    Happy Birthday Brett

Well Brett got everything he asked for, for his birthday.

He said it was the best birthday yet, just a pity we didn’t catch any mud crabs.

Not a bad way to spend your birthday weekend 🎂.Читать далее

    Anna Plains Station

    11 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

After a long time of waiting we finally made it here.

We didn’t know what we wanted to do first. We decided on sunset drinks and nibbles on the beach ( with a quick shell inspection of course).

Brett, Lachlan and Brax found the biggest shells I have ever seen.

We were so lucky to get a camp site under a big shady tree, and living in the tree is a family of Mopokes. Omg they are the cutest owls I have ever seen. The Mum and dad Mopoke come out at night and collect insects and bring them back to feed the baby Mopoke 😍

21112The duo back together again 😍

    Anna Plains Station

    12 октября 2021 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We were having a relaxing morning, we had finished school work and were sitting back reading when a familiar sounding car drove in. We looked up and SURPRISE, Kat, Shaun, Lyla and Byron were here 🤗🤗.

The boys quickly got ready they were keen to get their fish on!

On the way down to the beach we spotted a massive Eagle.

The boys were stocked Shaun caught two Giant Threadfin and Brett caught one. Then Brett thought he was onto a big fish, when it got closer he realised it was a sting ray. It was stunning, it looked like a leopard, we have never seen anything like it before. Lachlan thought it might be a new species and was hoping he could name it.
