    May 23, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

    Day 1/135 Off to Canada
Road trip was long getting there mixed emotions but had a steady head which was good, was alright with dad at the airport then when saying last goodbyes that was tough because that was it the last time, but got in alright, got stopped and security but only for my buttons on my cargo trousers. Got on the plane all good, shit myself because you need plug in head phones and I didn't have any so thought it was gonna be a long trip but they gave some so phew thank God. Watched Dunkirk, Elvis, puss in boots last wish and big bang theory. Flight felt long and was long, left leg was Soo dead.

-But landed in Calgary was very hot, got my sim card and Uber to the first Airbnb went through downtown Calgary. The cars are amazing here, big trucks, proper V8 muscle cars, Subarus, Mitsubishi Evo s, it's Soo cool. Uber driver was really nice talk to him about workaway and Calgary, then got to the Airbnb with a Subaru STI parked outside and man cleaning his dirt bike, the place is nice the houses just seems like out of every movie, house itself nice but crashed straight away as I been up for 20 hours at that point and slept for a long time.

    Calgary to Golden

    May 24, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

    Day 2/135 Going to Golden

Woke up after a long sleep at 5 (Calgary time but was 12 o'clock UK time) just chilled in bed catching up on sleep.

I got a Uber to Westbrook mall where my bus was going to pick me up from as I was waiting and a police van pulled up with one of the jail cells in the back and he was releasing a guy from the back of it. Weren't sure if I was in the right place but it turned out I was and got the bus to Golden.

The trip to Golden went straight through Banff and it was beautiful the roads were really straight so it was impossible to get travel sick. But the views were stunning just never ended and were so nice. The trip went by quickly and ended in golden where I met Sarah and here parents and her kid they were all so lovely and welcoming and they drove me to the ranch which was a massive up hill dirt track past loads of ranches in a big woodlands and then met the rest of the family who were all so nice, had lunch which was okay it was a mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, salami sandwich which I don't like any of that but still managed to eat it. Then I was off to see where I was working and got stuck in straight away working on the big work shop they are doing. Helped with the outside walking and the views from where we were working were awsome just dream like and just epic. Also met and work away couple both from London, Chole and Kelp who is Italian and was a musician and Chloe works in intelligence.
Then I finished the day by looking around a bit of the place seeing their chickens and pigs feeding them too, I saw my accommodation which I first thought was a chicken coop but was actually my room which is a nice cozy room. Works for me. Then had dinner with chole and kelp they made chick pea curry which was amazing. And finished the day watching Harry Potter and going to sleep trying to catch up on jet lag.

Today we went up and out around 11ish to start the quartz lake hike it was stunning kelpie and chole aren't too keen hikers but they did it it was proper trials nothing like it in the UK, we were on narrow paths and saw snow, the hike took 5 hours, and the view getting to the lake was stunning constantly walking next to mountain line, and kept up well withe James and Bertie as Bertie needs to be really fit to be able to come a world class skier so we ran a bit and I kept up, had lunch at the lake, and the me and Bertie jumped in the lake which still frozen partially with ice still on parts of the lake and it was epic so refreshing and so accomplishing to do, then hiked all the way back and completed the hike kelpie hated it and Chole found it good, then we drove back on these rally track roads and saw a small black bear which was awesome then came back to the ranch had a fire and cooked hot dogs on them and s'mores also meet two neighbors who are proper Canadian Jackie and chuck, then played basketball and went on trampoline with Bertie, kelpie and chole.Read more

    Day 6/135 Buffalo ranch tour

    May 28, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

On our day off today, me, kelpie and chole cycled off in the heat straight to a buffalo ranch 30 minutes away. It was a tough cycle with lots of up hill bits but rewarded with some fun downhill parts, I was on a really bad bike but did really well on it (mainly because I am used to my old heavy bike back at home).
We arrived at the ranch and met the tour guide and he started talking to us all about buffalo and his stories of living out in the wild. Buffalo is so interesting with the herd mentality,
A few fun facts:women buffalos are called cows and males are called bulls, bulls fight a lot the older a male buffalo is it means they have won lots of fights and are very tough as they get older they get more aggressive. Bulls can have a herd of up to 80 cows sometimes. Also the Latin name of a buffalo is bison bison bison, yes you have to say it three times. The difference between a bison and buffalo are the humps on their back buffalo have significantly bigger humps and more head down.
The tour was great and learnt lots and buffalo are massive. then he showed us that natives used to make fire with sticks and wood to create friction which he did so quickly was really impressive and then after we cycled back in even hotter heat but made it and then had lunch with kelpie and chole and had a good chat.
After that a huge order of pig food arrived and the most hill billy guy got out all the rugged skin head looked like a rough character out of GTA. But we had to take the roof off the store which was faff and then had to put it back on which was a challenge but managed to use the fork life and a bit of balancing to do it. Then spent the time chilling on the porch of the house looking at the views listening to country music.
Then watched the formula 1 Monaco GP before tea and then after tea me, Chole and kelpie watched family guy.

Day 7/135 Preparing for fitting on the r

    May 29, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today was back to work, we went straight to the ranch and sanded all day, had my headphones jammed to everything country, rock and roll and Elvis. But I repeated that all day so similar to what I would do back at the factory but when I go outside there are great big mountains everywhere. All this was to prepare all the planks for the rest of the week so we can fit the final layer of the wall on the front of the ranch.

Then kelpie (who is Italian) made us spaghetti Bolognese which was so good and then we had a good chat about how me and ash met and listened to country and then watched family guy for a bit before heading to bed

Day 8/135 Final preparations for the wal

    May 30, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today the plumbing went off so we had no water. Me and james tried to fix it, it kept coming off again which was really weird It worked for most of the day then stopped in the evening. After temporarily fixing it we carried on a preparation for tomorrow finishing the final layer. I spent all day plaining which is making the ages of the plank smooth and whilst I was doing that I was listening to podcasts about finances and leadership.

As it was a kelpie and chole last day we ended it by playing table tennis which was a good Laugh James then made two wooden paddles so we played doubles which was really good me and Bertie vs kelpie and James and then we switched and did me and James vs kelpie and Bertie.

Water then stopped working in the evening which was a pain but we managed to live around it, then we had tea all together and had a good chat and had an early night.

    Day 9/135 river visit

    May 31, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Woke up today with still no water. The plumber came round and managed to fix it by the afternoon. Me and James said I final goodbyes to chole and kelpie, and then straight off to the workshop.
It was really good today even though I messed up a few times. But I had to do everything for the wall e.g.measureing, cutting, marking, styling, painting and installing. As it was just me and James was doing the doors, so it was good learning and independent tasks I was also listening to podcasts all day about finances mainly about ISA's, but was slow productivity wise but was getting there and used to all the things I had to do.
After that me and Bertie went on a bike ride to the river which was a blue/ green color It looked amazing we just parked our bikes up and sat by the river talking which was nice, then came back had tea, fed the pigs as now I am the lead on that which is fun. Then after tea we played a card game called president which was a good laugh, then we went to bed.
