    1 Jun 2021, England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We set off on our travels with smiles on our faces, as we had been looking forward to this moment for some time. We had found a CL site which was at the end of a long narrow lane (Deerdale Lane) in the thick of the forest and it did not disappoint - it was completely peaceful with no traffic noise - all we could hear were the birds in the trees. We were the only van on this small site, but had the company of a friendly donkey called Coco. Apparently he came to his new home here on the site from a donkey sanctuary in Sidmouth (one we have visited more than once on a wet day in Sidmouth) and until recently he enjoyed the company of another donkey, also from the sanctuary - sadly his friend has now died, leaving Coco alone. The owner of the site said that as donkeys are social creatures the sanctuary request that you do not house only one. However, upon the most recent check up visit from a member of staff from the sanctuary they felt Coco would be happier staying put. And he receives lots of human contact, with campers visiting making a fuss of him. He certainly appeared happy!
In the sunshine we enjoyed our first bbq of the year and were able to eat outside without heavy clothes on - wonderful.
We cycled directly from the site through the forest cycle ways to Edwinstowe and onward to the Sherwood Forest visitor centre. We visited the craft centre then completed the Wildwood trail through the forest, a 4 mile walk around the woodland which took in the Major Oak which is an ancient tree thought to be 1000 years old. This particular tree is supported by a considerable number of props and appears to be thriving unlike many others around the forest the trunks of which stand tall as natural sculptures.
The visitor centre and forest here were very busy with people enjoying the summer sunshine, most of whom were completing short trails to the Major Tree which meant that Wildwood trail was sparsely populated and we had it almost to ourselves.

    22 Mei 2021, England ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Our final week in Hampshire for a while, as at the end of the week we are free again to travel.
During the week Alan completed the course of radiotherapy with thankfully no nasty side effects. Karen was able to visit the ladies for a natter in Chandlers Ford and Alan walked down to the radiology department. We enjoyed a nice walk with Peter and Charmaine through the woodlands at the bottom of the site followed by a coffee at our van.
Friday was an exciting day, we were preparing food for our trip to Chepstow the following day to see Kirsty and Matt in their new house. In the evening the last radiotherapy session was completed just in time for Friday fizz.
On Saturday we returned the little car to Matt and Kirsty at their house in Chepstow and delivered a house warming bbq. Their new house is lovely and M and K are quickly moulding it to their needs. We walked into Chepstow in the afternoon and enjoyed the fruits of the bbq in the evening with Matt's parents Mad. and Richard who were able to join us from Raglan.
On Sunday Karen helped out tidying up the borders in the rear garden.
We returned to Romsey on the train on Monday from Bristol Temple Meads - the train was quite busy and ran on time. We walked back to NB from the station in sunshine, at last it felt that summer was coming.

A trip to Winchester today because Karen was booked into have an X ray on the dickie knee. We parked up at the Rugby club and walked into town, Karen bounding up to the hospital feeling a bit of a fraud, but remembering the severe pain of three weeks ago. Alan took the opportunity to pop into the bank to finally close his business account followed by a wander into town.
Friday was a cooking day and food prep day in readiness for our trip to Sidmouth at the weekend. We enjoyed our picnic in Bournemouth so much we repeated the menu for a planned lunch on Saturday.
Friday evening saw us drive to Sidmouth to hitch up with Stewart, Emily and family who had rented an airbnb for the weekend so the children could see GG Mac.
We had a brilliant weekend with the family, we enjoyed a few fizzy pops on Friday, a lovely day in the grounds of Powys House and on the beach with the grand children and, curtesy of GGMac, a lovely meal at Dukes in the evening on Saturday. In the evenings we enjoyed scrabble with GGMac with G Mac being the victor each time.
Seeing everyone together again was brilliant, Magnus was as lively as ever in between building a Lego London bus with grandpa. Jemima spent her days in constant chatter and Mary was always cute, even threatening to walk all on her own but never quite managing it.
After Sunday lunch Stewart needed to leave early to travel back to London after which we spent a quiet afternoon in Powys House followed by Scrabble in which Karen once again prevailed.
We returned to North Baddesley on Monday, stopping off in Lyme Regis for a quick walk about on our way.
On Tuesday Alan reprised the bike ride with Mike prior to treatment in late afternoon.

In the morning we drove over to The Testwood Lakes nature reserve where we hoped the bird hides overlooking the northern lakes may have been open. We packed up a picnic and followed the path through the nature reserve but found that the hides were still shut for covid which was a little disappointing. The nature reserve was, nevertheless, a joy to walk through and we managed to spot an Egyptian Goose at quite close quarters. We found a bench where we had our lunch before exploring a little more of the area prior to leaving. There was a replica bronze age house in the reserve in an area where ancient artefacts had been recovered from that period.Baca lagi

    14 Mei 2021, England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

We have pottered about here for a few days seeing a few friends and walking nearby while Alan counts down the treatment days at the radiography department. Today marked session 11 out of 20. We spent the morning cooking in readiness for our day out in Bournemouth tomorrow. Karen made some hummus and I baked some bread, prepared a sweetcorn chat and Jaipur salad following recipes in our favourite Indian cookery books.
We spent Saturday off site as we were to attend our second covid vaccination appointment in Bournemouth in the evening.
After breakfast we travelled to Lymington and spent some time looking around the Saurday market, which was thriving, on the high street, and then drove on to Bournemouth where we parked up on East Cliff. There then followed the classic English picnic, having settle down on a bench overlooking the sea and dishing out our food onto plates, the sky darkened, the rain started and we were very soon running back to the car where we completed our lunch throughout the downpour.
After lunch we wandered into Bournemouth were we visited a couple of shops prior to joining the queue for our vaccination at the BIC.
The queue was extensive, we were hoping to get our shot early but in the end after a two hour wait we left the BIC all jabbed up with 3 minutes remaining on the parking meter. There then followed a brisk walk back to the east Cliff where we were pleased to see no ticket on the windscreen.
On Sunday we enjoyed a lazy day with the Saturday papers.
Monday was a radiotherapy free day and Alan had arranged to go out for a ride with Mike, and Karen had arranged to have a chat with Lizz.
It was great to be back on the road bike once again, we cycled through the lanes around Rromsey, up to Kings Somborne returning to Chandlers Ford via Farley Mount, avoiding the worst of the rain showers that were breezing through. Karen nd Lizz were not so lucky having been caught exposed under a heavy shower. We all enjoyed a bottle of fizz and cake in C Ford prior to returning to site in the early evening.

    11 Mei 2021, England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Alan had an early treatment session this morning at the hospital, after which we had arranged to meet Syd and Jo at "The Pots" in Cheriton. On our way to meet with them we stopped off at Ovington to complete a short circular walk that started at The Bell.
The riverside walk was very peaceful, a fly fisherman was in the water but was being un successful as the cloud cover had supressed the hatching of flies to tempt the fish.
The Flower Pots had been sold to new owners since we had last been there and was much changed. There was clearly a lot of investment being put in by the new owners - a triumvirate of three locals from the village. Karen enjoyed a chat with Tullulah, a sister to one of the lively young boys that she taught in Micheldever.
We enjoyed our lunch, out of the wind under a small marquee in the garden, warmed by the occasional sunshine. The company and the beer was as brilliant as ever.

We drove over to Hinton Ampner, so we could complete the National Trust walk through the bluebell woods, before they were past their best. Parking up adjacent to the gardens n the village we set off along the route which took us, after a while, into Joan's Acre Wood and then Broom Wood. The display of bluebells here was magnificent, even more impressive than those at Micheldever and well worth the trip.
On Monday Karen cycled into CF in the afternoon, after dropping me off in Southampton, for a "stitch and bitch" session with Ruta and Anne. They are busy knitting flowers for Kirsty's wedding in July, and were swapping tips on the best way to knit sunflowers, gerberas and Cala lilies. I walked back to the van after my treatment when I was joined by Trevor for a good chat about our common interest in rugby, cricket, football and South Africa.

We drove over to Micheldever woods in the afternoon to have a look at the bluebells. We will never tire of walking here at this time of year. The bluebells were out in all their glory and it was a treat to see the carpets of flowers among the woodland.
On Thursday Karen had arranged to see the ladies for a chat in Chandlers Ford in the afternoon. I set off to walk to the radiography session and had managed to reach The U of S Park when we got the call to advise that the appointment had been changed to an earlier time and I was already late. The hospital was very apologetic that they had not informed us of the change. Karen picked me up at The Chilworth Arms, dropped me off at the hospital and returned to her friends at CF.
After treatment I walked back through Lords Wood to Chilworth where K picked me back up.
On Friday we cycled into Romsey in the morning for a quick look at the market, and then we drove to the hospital for the afternoon appointment. 25% of the treatment completed. On our zoom call with Syd and Jo they mentioned that they had been walking at Hinton Ampner where the bluebells were very impressive.
Saturday was our usual day with the paper which we managed to get in the village between some heavy rain showers.

    2 Mei 2021, England ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We travelled to Barbury Castle, an iron age hill fort, just south of Swindon where we had arranged to meet with Kirsty and Matt for a picnic. The journey was uneventful, however, Google Maps though it a good idea to fire us up a 2 mile dirt track at the end of the journey. The little car did not like the deep ruts, bottomed out in a couple of places and K's anxiety levels were rising, so we re-routed taking a 7 mile longer detour on more conventional roads.
It was great to see Kirsty and Matt, and we enjoyed a great picnic at the castle prior to setting off for a walk along the Ridgeway upon which this old fort and others of a similar period are located. the views from the ridge were quite far reaching.
On Monday we walked from the site across the fields to Crampmoor returning via Baddesley Common

    25 April 2021, England ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We returned to North Baddesley, where we are booked in for five weeks while we sort out some medical stuff.
Big thank you to Syd and Jo for looking after the wee car for us whilst we were away and for the great bbq on Monday which we enjoyed in the garden in the sunshine - we walked through to Otterbourne along Dirty Drive which was much drier under foot than last year. The "pots" beer did not disappoint. Karen nipped out to see the girls at Charmaine's, where she had a good natter, picking me up for the ride home in early evening. K's knee was giving her no problem.
Tuesday was stocking up day with a trip to the supermarket. In the evening K visited a specialist knee consultant to discuss her problem. A had a pre-treatment covid test at the hospital.
We visited Graham and Viv on Wednesday and enjoyed a long walk in the New Forest near Dibden, culminating with us having our picnic in their garden. A typical British picnic trying to dodge the weather!!! A most enjoyable day, K's knee giving no trouble at all.
On Thursday A started the course of radiotherapy at the Royal South Hants Hospital which was very well organised and efficient. This was repeated again on Friday - only 18 more sessions to go. On Friday morning K cycled to Elaine's for another chat with the ladies and A wandered across the fields through Elmers Bog to Crampmoor, returning via Baddesley Common where I heard my first cuckoo calling of the spring.
We enjoyed our usual lazy Saturday with the paper and crosswords.
