  • Junee Licorice & Chocolate

    10 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

After a pleasant drive through gorgeous countryside, our first stop once we get into the town of Junee is here. I was worried that it might have short hours on the weekend - I needn't have worried.
What a fantastic venue this turns out to be - unfortunately for us, they're not running 'factory tours' at the moment as they are renovating. We still get to enjoy the grounds and the shop sections. Of course I'm 'dazzled' by all the selections of their Confectionery. Enjoy a phone call from Tegan while we're here ❤️ Have some fun making my purchases - most meant to be for gifts.....might be for me though lol.
After we finish here, we drive back to the main street area of Junee.

  • Junee Hotel

    10 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After parking, and abit of a walk around, this is where we end up for our lunch. Lovely, well maintained pub - food was underwhelming. I had entree Beef Nachos (was too small!) and Roger's Chicken Parmigana was overcooked served with cold vegetables and cold chips.
Next go for a drive about town, see what we find.

  • Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum

    10 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Drive here, after Google search tells us this is a main Junee attraction. On arrival and parking, we were both wondering if we felt like looking at this..... we felt the $10 entry fee each was doable. So glad we did- very informative and interesting, thanks to the wonderful volunteers (former employees - train driver Derek, and station master Vince). Amazing to check out the largest roundhouse built in Australia, and such fun to check out the old engines and carriages. Easy to spend a couple of hours here.
Once we finish here, ready to head back to our camp at Gundagai.

  • Sandy Beach Reserve Wantabadgery

    11–14 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Drive here after leaving Gundagai. Wonderful camping spot - happy to be able to relax here for Mother's Day.
We arrive and drive into the campground and select our camping spot - beside the river with a covered over picnic table, fireplace and rubbish bin near by. We set up with ute unhitched and awning and mat out.
I receive a call from Tegan, that Robert joins in - perfect, made my Mother's Day, to chat with them and see them well and happy. Next lunch time, so reheat sausage surprise for Roger and do open toasties for me. Roger goes for a stand up paddleboard along the river, while I go for a short walk and check out the campground layout - lovely spot with toilets and BBQs. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, reading a good book and snacking on Junee rocky road. Tea, Roger cooks a roast of butterflied buttered chicken and roast vegetables served with some boiled vegetables and gravy. Beautiful calm night to sit out and enjoy our campfire - before I retire to the caravan to do dishes and relax inside. Enjoy a lovely call from Gabe - planning for our Serra Terror weekend. Roger has his shower, now relaxing before bed.
12/05/25 Monday. Total go slow day today - no plans to go anywhere, just relax in this lovely spot. Roger gets up before 7.30am, while I'll lie in bed and read until 10am - enjoying a Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. Once I finally get up, I have breakfast followed by a shower. I do finally send off an email to WDHS for my request to extend my leave without pay until 8 September - will now have to wait to see what the verdict is. After lunch for Roger, he goes for a drive to check out our next potential campground 26km away - when he returns he states we'd be better off staying here - suits me. I have snacks throughout the afternoon, peanut butter on bread, jerky, rockyroad, all while I relax around camp reading. Roger lights our campfire and we enjoy its warmth while having evening drinks. Tea tonight, leftover cold meat from last night's roast with boiled vegetables. Roger has his shower, I do the dishes. All tidied up, now relaxing before bed.
13/05/25 Tuesday. Another 'no plans' day, so I take this opportunity to turn a morning run into my virtual Mother's Day Classic I've signed up for again. I get up before 7.30am and head off hoping to do a 10km 'shuffle' - quite happy my Strava app tells me I managed almost 12km on my return - around 9am. Roger's relaxing at camp - has packed up the paddle board and been for a wander too. I have my breakfast, then shower. Now for another relaxing day at camp. Lunch today (later than usual as I had a later breakfast) Rog cooks up our bacon and eggs 'our way' - oh it is good! Makes for a lazy afternoon - reading. Tea tonight, pizzas (bases that we put our own toppings on) cooked in the Baby Q. Roger has his shower, I wash dishes and tidy up. Go to bed and watch a movie - use my earbuds so I don't disturb Roger. Bedtime.
14/05/25 Wednesday. We get up around 7.30am, have our breakfasts and then leisurely start getting ready to move on. Have to smile/laugh - a couple of other campers have realised by Roger's actions that we're leaving - and they've quickly come over to check. On Roger's confirmation - they've started moving onto this spot (their camp chairs and table) - to claim it! By the time Roger and I almost ready to go - they've got their ute and caravan parked nearby waiting for us to go. Can understand, we did get a choice camping spot. We head off just before 9am.

  • Mothers Day Classic Run Wantabadgery

    13 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

This is my own run - shuffle I tend to call it! I've lost track how many years I've been participating in this fundraiser.....started off as just a lovely thing to do with my family and friends on Mother's Day morning around Lake Hamilton with the organised event held there. Then with Covid years - it had to become 'virtual' - so I continued doing it by myself, and now I'm still doing it this way as it's a convenient way - own date and place! Look at me this year - I've gone after official Mother's Day - due to being too happy to just relax in a camp chair by the Murrumbidgee River on that day! Better late than never - I'm telling myself today.
I go along the road leading me into Wantabadgery - then go out the other side following a road sign that points to Mcgledes Hill Rd. Lovely morning for it - and I reflect, thinking of loved ones in honour and respect of their cancer journeys.
Get back and my Stava app tells me I managed almost 12km - yay got my 10km +

  • Junee NSW

    14 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Our 2nd visit here (day trip previous) - such a lovely place with its historic buildings. We park where we can, near the main street area, with the caravan. Roger's keen to go try his luck for a haircut at a Barber's Shop that we can see is open. I leave him to it and go for a nice stroll along the streets, checking out the shops. Some lovely gift shops, as well as a gorgeous ugg boot shop - made here, so tempting (love supporting Australian wool business), but I don't need new ones yet. I make it to the Visitor Information - stock up on some brochures and get good info on local attractions from the staff. Roger calls me to say he's had a haircut and where will we meet for a cuppa? I suggest the Railway Cafe....happy with that. Next we get meat from the butcher for our tea, then go to IGA to get salad to go with it. Now ready to go settle ourselves in at the caravan park, so off we go.Baca lagi

  • Junee Tourist Park

    14–15 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Check in at the office - we've already booked online with our G'day membership, so the manager, Rodger, is quick to have us organised to go set up on site 10. We do - and it's a lovely site, in a corner with our view to the water, and across into neighbouring greenery. While Roger setting up the awning etc (no mat required - lovely grass) I go put on a load of washing. Then, once finished settling, we have some lunch - leftover pizza and salad. By this time, we can hang out our washing. Once that's done we decide to go for a drive to check out the spiral rail loop - it's about a 20 minute drive from Junee.
We get back around 4.30pm. I get the washing in and folded, then catch up on our budget books, Roger gets organised for tea. We go over to the camp kitchen- take our airfryer to cook homemade chips which we have with marinated steaks Roger cooks on the BBQ and serve with packet Asian salad. Very nice! I've got the Thermomix going - making rice pudding for our dessert. We head back to our caravan to have that. Now time for Roger's shower (when he returns - verdict, old but good), and I wash the dishes. We're relaxing before bed - Roger try's a movie - no luck, so reading, I'm writing this up - then bedtime.
15/05/25 Thursday. We get up around 7.30am. I mention I'm going for a walk around our nearby area before breakfast - lovely to find when I'm ready to go, Roger's coming with me. We have a nice walk into the town centre and back, then have our breakfast - porridge for both of us, Roger has some toast as well. I go and have a shower, then help get ready to be on the move. We leave at 10am.

  • Rail Spiral Lookout Bethungra

    14 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

This is a amazing feat of engineering back in the 1940's - still very much in use today. A spiral roundabout with a tunnel built into the hill to reduce the steepness of the climb for the trains. There is another couple here having a look too - and we're all wondering if we might be lucky enough to see a train come through using this loop today....? The lady googles for us - apparently there's a train coming around 2.30pm. Well we'll wait around for that! Though Roger decides we've got time to drive and checkout the nearby dam first. So we do, and return in good time to see the train come out of the tunnel, then shortly after cross over the top of the same tunnel. Glad we got to see it happen. Now we'll go back to our camp.Baca lagi

  • Coolamon Cheese Co

    15 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Haha - so much for checking out along the street first - Roger takes us straight into this shop where I'm intending to stock up on cheese. He's ready for a cuppa - so we enjoy cappuccino and a chai latte - while I check out their menu, looks great I'm keen to come back here for lunch. After finishing our drinks, I go tasting the cheeses they make here - they have a tasting table set up for this purpose. Oh these cheeses are great! I eventually make my selections and pay for them. Roger, by now is waiting for me outside the shop, so I ask if I can leave my purchases (to stay chilled) and return for them later - not a worry. Off I go to follow Roger along the street - he's gone way ahead so we look at other shops separately for a little while. I happily call into a gift shop - full of local craft produce and purchase a memento T- towel. Now to catch up with Rog at the Up To Date Store etc.
We return to this shop around 1pm and have our lunch here. Eggs Benny for Roger and Blue cheese gnocchi for me - both delicious. Roger decides to have a cherry and custard muffin as well - I have a bite of it for a taste, mmmm yummy! Before leaving I buy a takeaway bottle sparkling shiraz and collect my cheese. Had fun here today - such lovely owners (the Mum cooked the fresh gnocchi - family business).
Now ready to drive towards Wagga Wagga to find Roger's niece's and family home - so looking forward to visiting and staying a few days.

  • Ben & Helen's Brucedale

    15–20 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Arrive here in time for Helen and her gorgeous young daughter Pippa, to give us a very warm welcome, and show us where we can park our caravan. Then tell us to stay in their Brucedale Cottage, before they have to leave at 2.30pm to collect Hudson from school. While they're off doing this, Roger and I settle ourselves into the cottage. What a magnificent set up Helen and Ben have here with this property. Helen and the children return, and show us about their home - everything is spacious and gorgeous. A huge 5 bedroom house with plenty of living spaces. Ben arrives home from work to take Hudson to footy practice, and Roger happily goes too. Helen kindly let's me go off to the cottage for a relax, while she gets on with her day - and spoiling us with dinner. While at the cottage, I check my emails and I'm very happy to have received confirmation that my request for extended LWOP has been granted. When the fellas return from Hudson's footy practice I head back to the main house to join them all. We have a lovely evening in the company of the Woodhouse family, Ben and Helen feed us a lovely tea - BBQ steaks, chops and sausages with roast potatoes and a chopped salad. We enjoy a cuppa before returning to the cottage. Roger has a shower and heads to bed, I'm writing this up, and then I'll be to bed too.
16/05/25 Friday. Roger gets up first, 7am....I sleep in to closer to 8am. I get up and make my breakfast - Roger has had his and gone over to the main house. This cottage is fully set up - and includes a washing machine out in the garage, so I get our 1st load of washing going before I have a shower. Roger has returned, he tells me there was fun and games getting Hudson to the bus stop this morning - the mode of transport to get there (a children's quad bike/car?) ran out of battery along the way - not sure exact story, how this was rectified - but Hudson did catch the bus! Ben left for Melbourne early this morning - going on a shoot somewhere (quail) and won't be home until tomorrow night. Helen is offering to take Rog and I for a drive about in Wagga Wagga - show us their workplace, and go do some grocery shopping. We're happy to do that, so off the 4 of us go - Pippa too of course - in Helen's lovely Prado at around 10am. Before we left, I got the 2nd load of washing going and Roger's hung the 1st load out on the line to dry. We return in time for lunch 12.30pm. Helen and Pippa go do their usual routine with their lunch and Pippa's nap time, while Rog and I come back to the cottage. I get the 1st load of washing off the line, then hang out the 2nd, before making open toasties for my lunch. Roger has made himself a meat and salad sandwich. We enjoy these outside at the table under the veranda. We tidy up and relax for a while. Roger disappears back over to the main house - he ends up staying with Pippa (still napping) while Helen goes and gets Hudson, on the after school pickup. In this time, our 2nd load of washing has dried, so I've brought it in and folded and put it away in the caravan.
Helen has invited us to go checkout Wagga Wagga's main playground and river beach area with her and the kids - we happily do this. Get back in for tea. Helen continues to spoil us - we have her homemade lasagne with a salad for tea. Enjoy the evening over in the main house with Helen, Hudson and Pippa, relaxing, chatting - while the kids play on their ipads after their shower. Roger and I return to the cottage to let Helen put the kids to bed, and have her time to herself.
Roger has his shower and heads to bed - I sit up and watch TV - a Netflix movie 'Nonna's' - which I really enjoy (based on a true story of an Italian restaurant). Now to write this up and go to bed.
17/05/25 Saturday. Roger is up first, I get up at 7.30am. Have breakfast - then go for a walk - beautiful morning.
Return, and have a shower and get ready to go with Rog for a drive into Wagga Wagga for a look around.
Return around 2.30pm - I finish off (reheat) the remainder of my takeaway Chinese lunch. Helen and Hudson call in at the cottage while Pippa is having her afternoon nap. Roger goes out with them to light a small campfire to toast some marshmallows. I remain at the cottage and get my Thermomix to make a batch of Anzac biscuits. While these are cooking, I get a call from Barb - great to have a catch up - Barb in Darwin with her granddaughter Kya, very sad to hear that Adrian is having a tough time with some 'set backs' in his stroke recovery - I'm trying to get a handle on the long time with Rehab, it's so much more involved than just that! As Barb explained, he's got to get well enough to be able to even start on that journey....fingers crossed that his care providers are 'on to it' and Adrian starts feeling better soon. After this call (biscuits over cooked - they'll be right), I go and join Roger over at the main house. Helen has cheese and nibbles on the go - while cooking up the pork from Aldi we got today, along with some fried rice. Have another lovely meal and evening with Helen and kids, before we head back to the cottage so they can continue with their night time routine.
Roger has his shower and goes to bed to read for a while, I'm writing this up before I head to bed too.
18/05/25 Sunday. We get up just after 7am. We want to be ready by 8.15am to go to Hudson's Auskick morning, following Ben and Helen and family to get there. We have our breakfast, I have a shower and tidy up and get organised to go. We're set on time - and convoy with Woodhouse's to North Wagga Wagga Recreation ground.
After Auskick has finished, we drive in convoy again to the Botanical Gardens. To spend some lovely 'family time'. The day is cool but fine.
We return to Ben and Helen's in time for lunch. Helen invites us to their main house to enjoy eating lovely 'leftovers' for lunch. Roger and I more than happy to accept. Lasagne and fried rice for me, cold pork and salad sandwiches for Roger. Helen's intending to go for a walk when Pippa has her afternoon nap - I'm more than happy to keep her company on this walk. Helen comes over to the cottage to collect me when she's ready (Pippa to bed, washing hung out and general tidy up), I get changed and hang out a load of washing we've done too. Have a beaut 8km walk, return to let Helen get on with her routines- while I catch up with our budget books and spending app. Then I decide to bake a batch of yoyo biscuits - I make mini ones, thinking of the kids. Roger has spent his afternoon with Ben and Huddy, he put our ute up on Ben's vehicle hoist to check a noise coming from a back wheel. To discover the ute needs some repairs - a spring has come off within the wheel casing and bits and pieces are rattling around! Thank goodness - realised before we hooked up our caravan to leave in the morning! Ben contacts their mechanic - he will have a look at our ute 8am tomorrow - how lucky 🤞 The boys light a fire in the outside fire pit - friends of Ben's turn up returning Ben's wood splitter they borrowed, so a few drinks enjoyed around the fire - and extra children around as well for Huddy and Pippa to play with. After the friends leave - it's dinner time. As usual, Helen is spoiling us, having us over for another meal. Ben cooks up chops to go with the yummy salads Helen has made (a pumpkin one I really like!). We have another lovely evening there, and retire to our cottage when it's time for the kids to head to bed - leave Helen and Ben to do what they need to do, to get ready for the working/school day coming up tomorrow.
Once back at the cottage, Roger goes has his shower, and I ice the yoyo biscuits together - will leave these as part of our 'Thank you' gift. Relaxing before bed - I put on the 'Nonna's' movie for Rog to watch, while I tidy up and write this up. Bedtime next.
19/05/25 Monday Roger's up before 7am to be ready and organised to have the ute into Ben's mechanic by 8am. I get up as well to take this opportunity to go for a run. I do a 6km route along the nearby gravel roads. When I return and start to prepare my breakfast I get a call from Roger, the mechanic suggests that we stay another night, it may take some time to track down the part that is required. I call Helen to let her know we'd like to stay another night (so lucky this is happening while we're here) - not a worry, stay as long as we like/need, and Helen offers to pick up Roger when she goes into town shortly. Wonderful. I now settle to a leisurely breakfast, followed by a shower. Roger has returned, and we happily plod around tidying after ourselves to insure when we do finally leave, that we're leaving this lovely cottage in good order. Roger tells me Helen has now got jelly (I offered to make a jelly slice - but neither of us had jelly lol) so I go over to the main house to collect the ingredients I need - including a slice container- to make one for Huddy and family. I also offer to cook dinner tonight - Thermomix creamy tomato and chorizo pasta. I've taken over our Thank you gifts as well - card, Junee licorice and chocolates gift pack, Hearts card game and the mini yoyos. I return and get into making the jelly slice. Lunch today is leftover chops and sausages that Helen has given to us to use up. I get a load of washing done - good day for line drying too. Roger has been helping, on duty with Pippa's afternoon nap, so Helen can go and collect Huddy from school without waking her. Roger has been contacted by the mechanic dealing with our ute - it's all good to go again, so we'll be back on track to leave tomorrow. Ben gets home from work, with a small excavator on a trailer, which he unloads and puts to work doing some trench work re their new pool set up. We all get together at the main house to have drinks, cheese and biscuits. Time has got away from me (indecisive on my timing grrrr) and Helen let's me off the hook on dinner. Such a beaut hostess - gets the kids some pasta cooked, and organises T-bone steaks (Ben cooks perfectly on their BBQ) served with steamed vegetables. We barely have room to eat any veg - the steaks are huge. Now the routine of the kids having showers, we help tidy up, then have cuppas. When it comes to Hudson and Pippas bedtime we say our goodbyes, so their family can do what they need to do. Back at the cottage, Roger has his shower, then we watch a Netflix movie The Dig - not bad. Roger goes to bed, I'm relaxing writing this up, then bedtime for me too.
20/05/25 Tuesday We're both awake so we get up around 7am. All systems go for heading off this morning - so while getting breakfast we're onto tidying up Brucedale Cottage so we don't leave a trace that we've been - so cottage ready for next guests. I've stripped the bed and remade with clean sheets. Helen, Hudson and Pippa call in to say goodbyes before Huddy goes to school, Pippa to daycare and Helen to work. Such a gorgeous trio! After they've left, I finish my breakfast and go have a shower. Once dressed, get stuck into helping Roger with cleaning to leave the cottage as spick and span as we can - it was lovely when we arrived so want to leave it the same or better! We are underway at 9.30am.

    16 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

This trip into town is with Helen and Pippa, Rog and I with them in Helen's car.
Helen takes us on a tour of their new work premises they bought to have more space. It is a fantastic set up for them - with plenty of tenants in the buildings to help with costs.
Next Helen takes us to the Visitor's Centre (which has temporarily moved), we all go in and while Roger gets Tourist info, Helen, Pippa and I check out the exhibition being held here. Not that interesting for any of us (about someone we didn't know of!).
Time to go shopping - we go park at a Plaza, that has Kmart and Coles - along with a few other shops. Once our shopping is done (reading book from Kmart for me, groceries from Coles) we drive back to Helen & Ben's home in time for lunch.

    17 Mei, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Roger and I come into Wagga Wagga for a look around by ourselves this morning, Helen is taking Hudson and Pippa to a birthday party of one of Hudson's school friends for lunch today.
We find a Auto shop so Roger can get a replacement towing plug for the caravan, as the current one is dodgy. Then we go and park near the main street to have a walk about. I happily end up with a couple of birthday cards for Gabe and Mary (their birthdays are both around Serra Terror time) and a book that I wanted to get. Roger finds a trivet that will be good to use in our campoven - he's our best shopper today as his purchase is from an Op Shop. We have some lunch - Roger has a souvalaki and I get Satay chicken and fried rice (different shops) and eat these at an outside table together.
Next we go for a drive and find this Museum. We spend an hour or so here - main highlight, we get a call from Tegan, and Robert joins in (he's working at Merino) - nice to get Tegan's update that they're (with Lev) enjoying a camping weekend.
After we finish here, we head back to Brucedale Cottage.

Follow Ben and his family to where Huddy has his Auskick this morning. It's quite cold - so Huddy starts off quite rugged up, like most of the other kids!
Great to see how big a turn out they get - kids everywhere! They get divided into 3 teams to play against another 3 teams.
So enjoyable to watch these 'littlies' having fun and learning the basics of team work and sportsmanship.
Huddy has a good run today - keeping warm, getting a few kicks and moving about on field - chatting happily with the other Auskickers.
At the end - great to see the teams get together and sing their team song ' Oh when the Saints'.
Once all finished -presentations etc - we head off in convey, intending to go ride on the miniature railway.

Huddy and Pippa get the chance to play in the playground while we wait for our cuppas to be ready.
Next we go over to the miniature train boarding area - Helen kindly gets us tickets to ride, as Rog wasn't quite 'on the ball' enough to pay for all instead. $4 each.

  • Rocky Waterholes Narrandera

    20 Mei, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

As soon as we arrive we're both sure we'll camp here! We just pull up and park so we can go for a walk to suss out our campsite options. Yay - where we've walked into, Roger should be able to get the caravan in (turns out it was a tight squeeze to turn around) - he does and we're both in agreement on the site too! Just gorgeous, parked beside the water. We get ourselves settled - Roger leaving the ute hitched, and not worrying about the mat or awning - so quick set up. Next we go for a walk to see if we can find any koalas....on our nice walk to Rocky Waterholes Bridge and beyond we see 1. Return to camp, time to relax. We have a visit from 2 ladies driving by - they're from the Visitor Centre and they're looking to photograph people fishing for marketing. Not Rog and I I'm afraid! Though they take some photos anyway of us sitting near our fire pit (not yet lit). After they've moved on, Roger lights our fire and starts preparing our tea. Meanwhile, some camp neighbours have arrived -I'm keen to meet their gorgeous big dog, so I go over to them for a short chat (don't stay long - they're still setting up). Rob and Sue from Rosebud, with their Bernese Mountain Dog, Cooper. Cooper's unsure of me to start with (he's partly blind) though soon becomes friendly once he realises I'm no threat. Back to camp to relax some more before tea. I make a call to Sharon - have a nice catch up, she's in Millicent with her Mum and Dad - about to come home tomorrow after spending the week helping get her Dad to Adelaide for surgery - a biopsy of his prostrate. Fingers crossed on the results they'll get in over a week's time. Tea is baked potatoes (campfire coals) with pork, boiled vegetables and gravy. Eat inside in the caravan, before returning outside to the fire - to enjoy the calm night and all the stars showing in the sky. Along with satellites and airplanes (lights of). Once the fire's died down and we start getting cold - we tidy up and go back in the van. Roger has a shower, while I wash the dishes. Now more relaxing before bedtime.
21/05/25 Wednesday Both have a sleep in today - so peaceful and no rush to be anywhere - get up just before 8am. Have our breakfasts and tidy up. I'm keen to go for a walk - Roger happier to meet me with the ute and caravan at the location I mentioned I'd like to walk to. OK that's what we'll do. I start my walk around 9am - quite sad to leave this camping spot - with this weather (calm and clear) it has been paradise. On packing up Roger discovers we've got a mouse/mice in the back of the ute (living in the drawers) - plans to get rid of that problem.
Roger drives out about 15 minutes later.
