    Arrived in adelaide

    January 7, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 39 °C

Arrived on time after lengthy flight. Second flight had seat by the toilet and didn't really get any sleep. Got quite tedious half way through and really bored.
Landed and Stacey and Jerome were waiting for me in the airport. Drove to their house and had dinner (salad and kebabs) and had shower. Then went to one of the beaches Glenell (equivalent of Brighton type beach) and had stroll down the jetty and beach.

Got back and crashed and burned! Had such a good sleep! 9 hours solid!

Views from Stacey's flat were amazing and amazing sunset colours!

    Adelaide: vineyards and beaches

    January 8, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Had raisin toast for breakfast at Stacey's and drove to McClaren Valley where several vineyards are. We went wine tasting at SC Panell and tried 10 different wine. My favourite was a white called Aromatico which was so easy to drink! They had a lovely white too called syrah (old French word for Shiraz) and this had the stalks of the grape in which gave it a different taste to the other Shiraz. Apparently it's more traditional or old school to have the stalk on.

Had yummy lunch at the vineyard with pork dumplings, crab and empanadas to start. Then meat souvlaki wraps for mains.

Drove to Henley beach (more classy, quieter beach) but was quite cloudy so didn't sit out as wind made it a little cold. Had ice cream milkshake (they love ice cream here). Drove around neighbourhood but got really tired so came back for dinner.

    Adelaide: shopping and relaxing

    January 9, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Day with Stacey today, went to the gym with her in the morning (first time I've ever been to gym on holiday?!)

Raisin toast for breakfast (so good) and wandered into town. Much cooler this morning and overcast.

Got a pandora charm (koala) and a baseball hat (already have slightly pink parting!)

Had sushi for lunch at Sushi Train. Really cool place with convey belt type serving, really fresh amazing sushi. Some of the sushi had this cheese stuff on, it was amazing!

Got chocolate covered macadamia nuts as treat.

Back to Stacey's and went to her pool/gym complex in her building and sunbathed as sun had come out but wasn't tooooo not.

Had rotisserie chicken for dinner and went to the beach for sunset pics. Dessert is really big out here so went to St Louis for crepes. Yum.

    Adelaide to Port Douglas

    January 10, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Up early for flight to Cairns. 2 and half hour flight so seemed a breeze compared to the big one!

Mini bus transfer to hotel, the road was so winding but the scenery was absolutely stunning. Got to port Douglas after about an hour. Hotel is amazing - The Meridian. Little cute room with little fridge and kitchen abilities. Really nice pool area with loungers and no kids, mainly older couples so it's really quiet.

Walked to the Main Street 5 mins away to get water and big spray and it was sooooo humid! So so hot! Had lunch in random cafe (chicken and avocado toastie).

    Spent afternoon by pool

    Port Douglas: Great Barrier Reef

    January 11, 2017 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

Collected at 925am for trip with Quicksilver.

Boarded boat which took about an hour and a half to get to their pontoon in the outer Reef. Was a smooth ride (altho did take sickness pills so that might have helped). Decided to pay extra ($60) to have snorkelling tour with marine biologist. Don't think it was actually worth the money but meant I had guidance for first part of my time there as was a bit nervous about snorkelling again! Freaked out at first but then got used to it. Got given a stinger suit and had all the fins etc on.

Saw nemo, a turtle (twice) and some amazing surprisingly big and colourful fish. Got out for lunch (cold buffet with big salads and pasta etc) then went back in on my own after lunch. Decided not to wear life jacket this time, took a noodle thing instead. Not brave enough to go underwater properly, don't want to freak out in Australia! But was still amazing, so fascinating seeing all the wildlife. Go pro was good but didn't focus enough on all the little fish, they were just too far away for it to see.

Came back and fell asleep on way back, decided to walk back from ferry place as needed water anyway.

Got into room and chilled but read good blog when looking up things to do in Sydney and this girl basically was like ermmm your in Australia, get up and go out! You can sleep on the plane! It really made me get up and have shower as I was like yeah what am I doing chilling out here, I need to go out!

Went to see where the beach was, called 4 mile beach. A storm was coming in but looked amazing so will head there on Friday for proper walk.

Dinner in "The Mexican", amazing tacos and a beer watching the little birds squeaking so loudly going to bed. They are all amazing colours like green parrots.

Early night as up early for rainforest tomorrow!

    Port Douglas: The Rainforest

    January 13, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Collected at 730am in small minibus with 6 other people. Tour guide called Justin. He was excellent and genuinely seemed to care about the rainforest and really wanted to share with us all his knowledge.

First stop was Mossman Gorge which was enormous river that was really swollen from previous rains. There was a walkway that we walked along through the rainforest where Justin explained a lot about the trees and wildlife and then we turned corner to this immense thundering river.

From here drove to the Daintree River where we boarded a river cruise and went along the calm wide river looking for crocs. We didn't succeed in seeing any crocs as the river was really high because of the recent heavy rains but we did see a frog, a small snake and a python sunning itself on the top of a tree and loads of bats (spectacled flying foxes I think they were called). They were heading to sleep but some were moving and had babies with them.

Got off the river cruise and headed in car up to a lookout point across the rainforest where we had morning tea including a home made lamington (kind of really light chocolate cake covered in coconut). It was a surprisingly nice day, we had expected rain but other than the very first part in the rainforest it was beautiful!

From the lookout point we drove to Cape Tribulation on the edge of the rainforest which was a stunning white sandy beach. All along the roads we were looking for a Cassowary bird (in the emu and ostrich family with blue and red head) but we didn't have any luck in seeing one. Went to a small patch of rainforest where it was just us having lunch (salad and cold meats, really yummy) and then drove to Daintree Ice Cream company. They sell ice cream made from the fruits they grow on the farm so it's a different blend every day. We had coconut, mango, damson plum (my favourite, really sharp and purple) and wattleseed (which was like a cross between vanilla and coffee, kind of a mocha flavour)

From here drove to cassowary falls (a waterfall that only this tour company had access to) and went into the water. It was a bit murky and muddy coloured due to the excessive rains and flooding they'd had but I went with it anyway and got in! Stood about bum deep and saw some turtles. Then the tour guide threw some fish food into the water and the fish went mental! I hadn't really realised there would be fish in there. Another girl freaked out first when one touched her leg and I knew I had to go her way to get out. So I screamed too when things kept touching my legs. Did not like it at all! But am proud I went in at all! When we were safely at the waters edge we could see it was in fact a massive eel!! Not like an English eel but literally the size of my arm. Still gives me the shivers now when I think about it!

Then returned back to Port Douglas. Really really good trip and best value for money! The tour guide made it, he didn't stop talking all the way and gave us so much history of the area, it was really fascinating and made me want to read about it!

Went out for dinner at On the Inlet, a seafood place by the marina, and had delicious tuna steak and a few glasses of wine. One was super nice, very sweet and apricot flavoured which was a Moscato Australian wine.

    Port Douglas: Relax day

    January 13, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

Arranged massage at 10am for back and glutes which was really good massage!

Chilled by pool all day reading book, it was so humid tho so had to keep alternating between sun and shade and pool. Ate a cheeseymite scroll for my lunch!

Went to beach in early evening after buying a beer (luckily the go pro accessory has bottle opener on it!) sat watching beautiful scenery and amazing parrots calling and flying in for the night! They were such bright multi colours. Just like a postcard picture.
