Such a great, great flight! Alcohol for free, nice people around me, super cool vibes. Only because I got upgraded to economy premium class, hell yeah. Perfect! What a nice coincidence.
One stewardess in the middle of the flight: Ah, yeah I see, you’re the funny row in this plane, aren’t you?
Carl got a taxi to get me... thank you 🧡 the Taxi driver was trying to teach us a Spanish tongue twister: tres tristes tigres tragavam... something like this but a little longer...
I’m honestly really tired, I guess it’s proper Jetlag, been awake for 20 hours straight already but we’re going out now to fight it.
Found a great bar - they didn’t accept card transactions and we didn’t have Mexican Pesos yet... good that the world is full of good people. Eleandro and Vanessa invited us to sit with them and it became a really great first evening with Salsa lessons, cerveza with fresh lemon and broken Spanish/English communication skills. 🤩🤩🤩
The neighborhood is not really sketchy but not so great either to be honest but it’s gonna be alright, we’re thinking of going to Tulum earlier. Let’s see!En savoir plus

Gooood morning... at 4:40h. Jetlag is hopefully gonna be wearing off soon!
We ate weird put together breakfast, went to the money exchange store (the rate is around 22 something) and took a Uber to Playa Delfines in the Zone Hoteliera.
PRO TIP: take the ADO bus from the airport too... the taxis outside are wayyy too expensive.
Beachvibes. Laying under a shady hut, going into the beautiful turquoise water - an amazingly chill experience. Then we played some volleyball, drank and ate something at a small beach bar. I read a book in the shade for a while, went into the water again and met some other people to play volleyball with. They’re staying in an all-inclusive resort for 200 USD per night and said that’s kinda cheap: felt like living in a different world...
I got this weird sunburn on my left arm, still tryna find out how that happened...
First real Ceviche and Tacos in Mexico. I didn’t like the Tacos Arabe too much but the ones with fish were just fantastic. Sooo darn delicious.

Cancún knowledge bragging: the zona hotelieras 15 miles of sand is in the shape of a 7. Yeah, that’s it actually...

Today was a trip planning day, I sat in front of the laptop for 5 hours straight trying to figure out where we go next, what to do there and more stuff. Don’t know how it worked out to be honest but we’re gonna find out the next few days and weeks.
We went out for lunch (combo menu ca 80pesos, Horchata, Pescadillas, Taco and Ceviche) and found a nice local restaurant “las pecadillas” next to las palapas. That’s a big market stand thingy - I think we’re gonna go there another evening to find out what the fuss is about :)
After doing some more planning stuff we went for a stroll to find out in what kind of area we’re actually living but Cancún is pretty boring to be honest. Even when asking the Uber drivers what to do around here they only recommended some restaurants going to the beach with beer... sounds nice but I was actually expecting more adventurous stuff to do.
So the neighborhoud seems kinda artsy and there’s cute restaurants around in every corner but the best part was to stand in front of a Flamboyán tree (which conveniently is the name of the street we’re living in) and having a dog bark at us... you ask yourself why? Because then this dude came out of the house and just showed us around the neighborhood. He told us what to do, let me pet his very, very, very shy dog (definitely the best part: beautiful mix) and invited us over for beer tomorrow.
After that I went grocery shopping: ALONE! First time walking out all alone without Carl next to me. Feels weirder than doing it in Germany but it’s gonna be alright, I just have to get used to it.
I can recommend Coco on Disney+ - it’s really good and colourful. Unfortunately English subtitles are a must for me :(En savoir plus

Exploring the city, finding an Iguana, seeing cactuses randomly chilling in the shade - so different so “beautiful”. Today we went to another beach: playa Marlin. I liked playa Delfines more! But we played Volleyball with some people and one of them did frontflips when running into the water. So cool!!
Dinner at Parque las Palazas which everybody was going into raptures about - not worth it, though 3 tacos cost 40pesos... but not really good.
I cried for the last 20 minutes of Coco because it was just so beautiful.En savoir plus

¡Hola amigos! My day trip to Boulevard Kukulkán was kinda worth it. I’m not really into this big hotel zone feeling where everything costs more than one poor Mexican person earns a day but I kinda like to respond “no gracias. solo mirar” to everyone on the flea market. My beach day at playa mandala tho... that one was great - even more beautiful than playa delfines. Almost the famous Tulum feeling with that rock in the water. And when I talked to 3 young Mexicans for 30 minutes with a looooot of gestures, google translate and un poquito bit of knowledge I was so happy I did a tiktok with them :) now I have two more Instagram followers ajajaja😂
The restaurant we went to for dinner the Ceviche was delicious! Afterwards we got up, danced a bit of Salsa in the restaurant - between the tables :) like everyone does... 😍😍 the party we wanted to go to hadn’t started when we got there so we took off... hmm. ¡Aiii karamba! What a nice day :)
Took the ADO bus (36pesos for a 40minutes ride) to Puerto Morelos. It was announced as a cute fishing village and worth the visit when one is overwhelmed by all the tourists in Cancún. So: damn right. I wasn’t really into it while walking through the streets but once I got to the beach I was so, so, so happy. I guess I’ll go back there tomorrow to see the rays and light tower that the German family I met there (and played with) has told me about. It was a fantastic day! I took a Colectivo back home and had a nice talk with the driver (who apparently was in shock cause he loves Germany so much) and with the guy who picked me up on the street and showed me where to go. Regards to Orlando (Bloom) from Acapulco. ☀️☀️
But every great day must come to an end and my end came the moment I took a shower and realized how sunburnt I was. So I took a painkiller to get over the worst sunburn I have ever had.... probably the 4th painkiller I have ever taken in my whole life.En savoir plus

Daytrip to Puerto Moreles again. Taking a Colectivo is way nicer than taking an ADO bus. Carl and I both got stomach upset quite fast in the big bus... Puerto Moreles is famous for its leaning light tower and the rays that swim under the dock of the harbour, now that I‘ve seen both I‘d still wanna go back there :) my book is sooooo good, but unfortunately it became a bit wet... I’m learning a lot about Mexico in the 30s through it. Carl went snorkeling for 200pesos and I was so smart not to do so... the videos on the GoPro really seem worth it, I gotta download those and put them up here.
I returned home a bit later because he had to work - so I got in a Colectivo at the station. There were 14 seats and all of them taken, so I had to sit backwards on a water tank and a few minutes later the driver stopped to let 4 more people get in. One squeezing next to me and three standing in between the seats...
Risotto with Chorizo for dinner and getting pre drunk to go to a (now I know) high society club. I shuffled and danced the night away. Pretty great experience, lots of fun, many nice people and free drinks for me 🤩🤫
I didn’t wanna walk home but take a Uber to be safe - but at 3 am my minds not as straight as it is in the daylight so I just walked along with Carl and it all went alright.En savoir plus

Still kinda tipsy and happy from last night :)
We packed our backpacks early in the morning to catch the „bus azul“ to leave to Puerto Júarez ... where the tickets to Isla Mujeres were supposedly more pricier than anyplace else... didn’t really work out... we had to book a ferry for 20 US Dollars for a round trip with live music to get there... argggggh, still need to get rid of my anger :) at the puerto a father son duo actually let us hitchhike on their golfcart to our apartment which was quite far away from the town center. Such a beautiful island, many pretty murals, colourful houses, ocean view from almost everywhere in 5-minute walk distance and the Air B‘n‘B 😍😍 90 US Dollars for 2 nights but with a pool... :/) and bikes!! Which we took to the beach to swim in paradise with Yachts all around and vibing to the music of a DJ.En savoir plus

Everybody’s so nice and I’m just sooooooo, so happy here. The island is really, really beautiful, though we didn’t even visit it correctly, definitely need to come back here, my absolute favorite!!! Music, drinks, people, turquoise water, fun and love - what movies are made of!! Our Portuguese friends from the club visited us for the day - so looking forward to seeing these guys again some time. :) Fun day, will keep it in my memory!! I realized I don’t have to be afraid to travel alone, today it came to me - there’s always people I wanna hang out with and get to know. I feel like an adult now, a proper one :)

Bye bye, I’ll come back I promise :) I really did like that island! Ship, Colectivo, ADO bus - Now we’re finally in Mérida. Long day. The city center looks really cute. We’re staying on a nice colonial street with little artsy (but European prizes) shops all around us.
I like the colorful walls all around :)

This was a really, really, really expensive day, 25€ entry fee, 10€ for the guide and then the cenotes. But very interesting and worth it! I think Chichén Itza is overrated as a tourist attraction - but more interesting in the context of learning about Mayans being smart as nobody else and knowing a lot about the universe which we don’t even understand today. Fun fact: they played a game in between football and Basketball with a very heavy medicine ball and sometimes with human heads whose bodies were sacrificed...
Anyways we were hitchhiking with this Texan couple and they let us out in some small village that doesn’t even have a name on the map and we ate very good food and saw to open cenotes from above.
Then we took a taxi to Cenotes X-Kéken and it was the best spontaneous idea that could have happened because they were both A M A Z I N G. One has been taken as inspiration for the one in Coco, the Disney movie. So cool! We met Rámon, Paolo and Yael and took them out to dinner and beer in Valladolid.En savoir plus

Yeah... so you could say I went on a shopping spree... my backpack is quite stuffed now... but I love the new things I bought! I definitely should have taken only 3-4 things with me since I’m wearing the same 2 outfits every day anyways...
Valladolid is really beautiful. I can only recommend experiencing the silence and beauty in that town for longer than a day. We’re gonna extend our stay for a day as well, after that we don’t know yet, let’s see :)
We tried a very nice vegan restaurant, they had such good home made food! Then the light show at San Bernardino’s - just great!En savoir plus

After a nice evening: ¡Vamos! Let’s go to the city center, downtown.
Merida seems to be the safest city on the American continent right after Québéc and is 21st place in the whole world. Seems like a good location to experience México.
It’s alright, has pretty buildings and the oldest church (around 430 years old) in North America but I’m honestly not too impressed with it. Maybe my spontaneity wasn’t too good this time. 6 hours of walking, chocolate pasta that tasted really boring and an Apérol Spritz later the world seems better :)
We went out to a “club/bar) right across the street, didn’t get in but met some nice people and spent the evening with them in another bar close by.
It seems to be normal to invite people you just met to an after party at your house since 3 different groups did that in one evening only. We went with them and stayed till 3 am, nice new friends, beautiful Husky and Carl took a dip in the Pool :)En savoir plus

Homún Cenote Tour

We met with Paolo from Italy again and took a Colectivo to Hómun. There we rented a private driver for the day to visit some cenotes. The first one was pretty fun, I jumped down the platform after contemplating for a way too long time. I really just need to do and not overthink things :) the second one was kinda pretty with the hole and round form but the third one was just great. In the shape of an eye, crystal clear water, very deep, carved in stones laying at the bottom. Really, really beautiful.
But honestly: the last one topped everything. We had to rob into it through a very small water filled tunnel and then got into a Mayan temple Cenote. There were stalactites everywhere and no sunlight coming through because it was so deep and hidden. To get to the tunnel we had to go down a quite steep stairway and then inside we just sat there, relaxed and then the lights were turned off for 5 minutes and it was very spiritual and calm to exist in nothingness.En savoir plus

Not really a great day. I don’t think Progreso is worth visiting. When you are in the situation to compare Maya Riviera to this it’s almost like choosing between going on vacation or living in a dumpster. 😉
My bus ride in the morning was more than loco, that bus driver... she was crazy! Honking every single second, trying to push cars out of the way, going full speed around a corner.
I actually wanted to go to Uxmal but didn’t catch the ADO so instead I walked around the city, bought a new shirt and just strolled the streets being stared at for probably being the only foreigner ever seen on the Meridians peoples marketplace - it was definitely not a touristy area. 2 Tacos for 16 Pesos - that is a new achievement!!
What I realized is that people here are way friendlier than somewhere else. Not only by talking to you, showing the way but also they all stand in those street long queues waiting for their turn to get a seat in a bus without trying to push or anything.
Eventually I found a colectivo to the beach, sat there for a bit, was weirded out by a homeless guy and took a taxi to “el corchito” an island where you can see open cenotes and many animals. I wasn’t too impressed, also they charged me the foreigner entrance fee... on my way back to Mérida I fell asleep and then went on THE SEARCH for the bus stop. Sugary food so that I only almost cried. Everybody was telling me to take different directions and in the end I just walked around for 1h and 20 minutes, finally found it only to wait 30 more for the slowest bus ever to arrive. Nice dive in the pool. Watermelon for dinner. Nice English Spanish evening talk with our hosts. ¡Hasta mañana! :)En savoir plus

Uxmal & last evening in Mérida

THIS IS THE COOLEST PYRAMID EVER! I really enjoyed the archeological zone in Uxmal, I went there by ADO from Merida city center at 9 am, it took about 2 hours and the entrance fee was around 20€ but so worth it!!! Really big complex, great sight, the pictures my new friends from Poland took are not really the greatest but imagine seeing and walking around this :) back home we Tool a colectivo to Mina and tuen to Mérida, actually very simple. In there I met Erik from Barcelona and we got lunch inside the city which was super, super tasty! Panucho and Salbute (with egg and burnt chilis) - recommendation for everyone.
I enjoyed the pool and got ready for the night! We met Paolo (Italy) and his friend Lau (Puebla), as well as Erik (Spain/Britain) again and went out. Very loud nightclub with only a bit :( dancing and a fun game while waiting for the Uber to arrive while the police all around us took some people to prison (probably)En savoir plus

Enjoyed some time in the Pool, who would sign up for fun Aquafit classes under my lead? Maybe I’ll do that some time.
Anyhow: who needs some help with their English or something else. I’m desperate... I’d really like to work a bit every day :)
4 hours early at the airport, I’m really getting anxious to miss my bus, plane or anything while traveling... we weren’t even allowed to get rid of our backpacks yet, after Check-In I lost my elephant pillow and honestly I’m still super, super upset. I almost had tears rushing down my face :(
2 hours transit in México City: mas o menos good food, Doughnut as snack afterwards :)
The plane to Puerto Escondido takes approx. 40min - I feel like such a bad human being taking 2 planes in one day, my ecological footprint this year will be really shitty... spoke in broken Spanish and figured out that my seat neighbor has a friend who gives Surfing lessons, let’s see if it was fate and he’s gonna be cheap :)
Homemade and self caught Ceviche from Jo, and then going out with Uli... till 5:30am... had sooooo much fun in Cocos and the techno party afterwards.En savoir plus

Party night & visiting the turtle camp

So, yeah... I lost my money at the club, I didn‘t know the name of the street where I live and I forgot where we put the key once I got there - so it was really, really, really good that Sebastian took care of me... I probably should think more before I go out... we went to the beach to see the sunrise and saw surfers having so much fun.
The Apartment I’m staying in is exactly half a meter walking distance to the beach... it’s dirty, doesn’t have running water and no AC but it’s still just great!! Uli and Palesa live upstairs and rn I share a room with Roque :) I love meeting new people :) at 11:30 I finally got an hour of sleep after teaching English through Whatsappcall and breakfast at 2pm (consisting of bread, avocado, tomato and my new favorite: Tajin. That’s salt, chili and lime and it’s just awesome!!
Took a stroll in the afternoon, the sand is so hot it burnt my soles and the current is pretty strong.
Roque and I went to the turtle camp (I misread the way and our path became 4km longer than it was supposed to be), long, stony road but beautiful. Sunset, bricks, ocean, turtles... Leo is very nice, we may spend Sunday night at the beach to help him collect eggs at the beach, will keep you updated!!
It was open mic night and I was so looking forward to it but after 30 min in I got home to sleep because I finally became tired after an 38hour day with only one hour of sleep in the daytime.En savoir plus

I set an alarm clock for 12pm and still it was too less time... little bit of English through Whatsappcall and then Sebastian, Gonzalo, Roque and I went out for lunch at a nice Tacoplace somewhere around. Fresh watermelon juice, yummy.
With no shoes or long pants on I sat on the motorbike, living the life ;) we went to Bonitas to drink some beer and sit in the pool, then we took a Colectivo to Playa Carizalillo, the view is astonishing... I had to stop on the stairs because it was so breathtakingly beautiful. We booked a surfboard, I almost drowned but even only laying on top of the wave was amazing, I need to book a teacher soon... Indian, unfortunately not so good, dinner at El Arból and then nice live music and Salsa and Cumbia.En savoir plus

I couldn’t sleep well so I got out of bed before sunrise and practiced some Yoga. Chilling vibes in a hammock and then beach and swimming day at Carizalillo. Josh, Palesa and I went to Playa Bacocho to see the sunset and it was really, really pretty. Beautiful water and the sound of ocean waves, nice sand and on the right hand side everything green and full of trees.En savoir plus

Daystroll at the beach, little bit of swimming but the waves are way too big for that... party at a beach club - it was really nice there, I liked the vibe and music - then we took off to Cactus, I didn’t really like it there, many weird people - I really don’t feel comfortable going around seeing people sell, buy and take drugs... the night was kinda done anyways so I took a taxi and went to sleep at 5am.En savoir plus

Work, exercise & campo de tortuguitas

Nice morning laying at the beach with Uli, enjoying the cold water and hot sun. We wrote her essay for university for like 4-5 hours... then cooking - food and underwear... what everybody usually does...
I played volleyball and Frisbee with Gonzalo and Vale and had to run to be in time for the night at the turtle camp. We walked up and down the beach the whole night but I still slept about 4 hours - outside, under the stars, it was so nice! Unfortunately there were ne Tortugas or eggs anywhere to be found but still, I had a great night! Learned some Spanish as well :)En savoir plus
