    Day off in Rockbank

    I got up around 9:30 am today. No stress at all. Took it easy and had breakfast fast.
    Around 11 am I left to Melton change the airpump and buy some clothespins so I can wash today.
    The weather is beautiful, around 25 degrees.
    I was back after around one hour. Finally with the right air pump. But again, Kmart had nothing, so I just returned it and went to the Big W to get the one I need. It's really boring with Kmart at the moment.
    New favorite store is Big W.
    The rest of the day I basically did nothing. Washed my clothes and was reading a lot. Finally really felt for it.
    And I did some planning, trying to find campgrounds for the next days and so on. Worked out pretty good this time, so all should be going well the next days.    Read more

    Geelong

    I woke up around 8 am this morning, took it easy and left after breakfast around 10 am the campground. Next stop, Geelong.
    I went to the Buckley Falls Lookout and was walking around there for a little while. Really nice place that obviously many people from around use regularly. Saw many families and many dogs around.
    After that I went into town to the Waterfront.
    Was hard to find a place to park the car, took some patience but in the end I found a spot.
    From here I walked around the city, visiting the Visitor Center for some information and just had a look around. It was really full as there are some events going on today. Saw them building up a huge stage, so I guess there will be a concert tonight.
    After that I went to the campground for another calm afternoon with a good book.
    I went to bed around 9 pm as I have to get up pretty early tomorrow for my Swim withe Seals Tour.    Read more

    Swimming with Seals

    I got up at 6:40 am this morning. Had some breakfast first and then started to pack all my stuff as quiet as possible. It was pretty calm on the campground in the beginning but around 7:30am there was already quite a few kids awake again.
    I left from there at 8:20am to drive to Queenscliff to meet up with the team from the Seal Swim Tour. Its an 30 minutes drive down there. Wasn't so easy to find a place to park but as i have sorted that out I went there to check-in, get my gear and try it on.
    All went very smooth. There was even a German girl working and she tried to encourage me to try diving. Will see if I can motivate myself to it's sooner or later.
    When everyone was ready, we drove to the marina with our own cars, loaded everything on to the boat and was good to go and leave Queenscliff. Almost everyone is diving today. So far it's just me and two older ladies that are going to snorkel, but we have some people to pick up at Portsea.
    Weather is lovely, sunny around 20 degrees already. And almost now wind. So we hope for good snorkeling conditions.
    After we picked up the rest of the group we went to Pope's Eye for our first round of diving/snorkeling. Divers went in first, then we were good to go. Sara ist taking care of the three of us. Water was pretty calm in the beginning but then it was okay.
    Was good to go around Sara on my own a little bit. Pope's Eye is an old military place now home to lots of sea birds and fishes.
    Got to see some small fishes but was struggling with my mask. Had to clean it a few times to see better. After a while I was starting to get cold and as the two ladies also was feeling for going back on the boat we were waiting for the boat to pick us up. Unfortunately I was taking quite a while for them to recognize that we wanted a pick up and the waves got higher and higher. So I was starting to feel a little bit uncomfortable and especially I was starting to freeze.
    Plus that my underwater camera is not turning on anymore and I wonder if its the battery or if water was getting into it. So I am really disappointed now as I will not be able to take pictures from the seals..
    Finally we got picked up. And i tried to get warm again as we had to pick up the divers as well and then headed to our next snorkeling stop, Chinaman's Hat.
    Here everyone is just snorkeling. And we get only 10 minutes with the seals. It's only male seals here, either to young or to old to breed.
    So we went all in the water, that felt much warmer than the first time. It's also not so deep and you can see the sand.
    First i struggled again with my mask but good fix it quick and then I saw two seals coming closer to me from the right side. I was at the end of the group and very happy to see them. After that a huge stingray passed under me. Wow how huge that one is.
    And then I saw a few seals coming closer from behind and two of them were coming really close to be to check me out! Amazing!
    And then the 10 minutes was already over and we had to go back on board.
    We the. Went back to Portsea to drop of the people from there and after that back to Queenscliff shortly before 1 pm.
    I got changed in the public toilets there, they even have a shower and could line up in the long line to the ferry directly. I knew I won't make the 1 pm ferry but that I won't make the 2pm ferry was a surprise. So I had to wait in total 2 hours to get on the ferry at 3 pm. The ride to Sorrento is taking around 40 minutes. So I tried to push gas to arrive not to late on Phillip Island as it's taking at least 2 hours to get there. But the traffic was horrible in the beginning and I arrived at the campground at 6:10pm. They had prepared all for a late check-in so it was no problem at all.
    My side is closed to the beach. Really nice place here. I just made up a plan for tomorrow, had a shower and dinner and went to bed around 9:30pm.

    Koala Conservation Reserve

    After a good night, okay it was a little bit wet as there is a lot of humidity in the air, but it was my first warmer night! Finally!
    I had breakfast and shortly past 10 am I left the campground to drive the short way to the Koala Conversation Reserve.
    Here I hopefully will see some Koalas. Most of the Koalas here were found in the wild with their dead mother and was hand raised or got injured during the black summer, the bushfires during the summer 2019/2020.
    So they can't be released into the wild again.
    It's a lovely park and I managed to see quite a few Koalas. All of them were sitting high up in the trees. They have some areas where they have built a boardwalk so you can get closer to them, but they where anyway to high up.
    As I was ready to go again I thought, just one last round through the two boardwalks and that was the jackpot as two Koalas were climbing down their trees and were sitting very close to the broadwalk. 🤩
    That was so amazing to see. One had a good scratch. I got so happy and left with a big smile on my face shortly before noon.    Read more

    Pinnacles Lookout

    Next stop was just a 15 minutes drive away. I decided to to the walk to the Pinnacles Lookout. Should be a 2 h return track, didn't take me that long. First 900m you have to walk over the beach. So lovely place and many surfers where out there or on their way to get ready.
    After a few steps up it was as nice walk along the cliff. It was just super warm, as there are no trees, no shelter and for the first time I think, no wind!
    The view over the he beach and the pinnacles was beautiful! I really enjoyed it. On the way back I took of my shoes and walked through the water to cool down a little bit. It was quite fresh but just what I needed.    Read more

    Forest Caves

    Next stop was also only 15 minutes away.
    After a short walk up the dunes and down some stairs it was only a short walk over the beach to reach the Forest Caves.
    What an amazing place this is!
    The rocks are so red, haven't seen anything like this before! There were holes and caves and tunnels everywhere. I was very lucks that I was there at low tide because I could explore all good. Lucky me, I was not thinking about the tides before going there.
    After the walk I had a short lunch break in the car as it's pretty warm outside and the flies are annoying me already.    Read more

    Red Bluff and Storm Bay Lookout

    Next up was the walk to the Stormy Bay and the Red Bluff.
    Didn't plan to do these walks but was just feeling for it. As I started to walk I was almost running into an Echidna. It was right beside the track. So I stopped went a meter back and got down on my knees and was just waiting. After like 30 seconds the Echidna started to move again and turned around and looked at my like: What the hell are you still doing here?
    It turn around went a bit back into the bush and to the side, cam back out to the track and was not happy to see me still there. What an experience! I then got up and walked away to let the Echidna be.
    The walk was super easy and very nice. Was going very fast also!
    The view was awesome. And the weather is awesome too!! 25 degrees but it's feeling warmer!    Read more

    Pyramid Rock Lookout

    Back at the carpark I went to the Pyramid Rock Lookout, the "walk" everyone is doing. Well but everyone is not bumping into an Echidna 😉
    Was a nice view but I saw I saw it already from the other walk.

    The Nobbies View Point

    The last planned stop for today was The Nobbys View Point.
    Here you can also visit the Antarctic Center but I didn't feel for it.
    So I just went for the walk around The Nobbys to the View Point and a Blowhole.
    Here are so many Cape Barren Goose. Even more than on Maria Island! They are everywhere.
    Found some penguins in the holes and little houses. But it was impossible to take a picture as they are far in the houses or have some plants growing over the entrance to their holes.
    The view was wonderful and with all the wildlife around me it was just an amazing place to be. Was walking around here for a while and was then deciding it's time to go back to the campground, withe a short stop at the supermarket, almost forgot, that I need to buy food. 😅    Read more

    Gravelroad to Penguin Parade

    I saw that there is an alternative road to the Penguin Parade so I thought I take that road for the way back and then I can see where I need to go tonight.
    It was definitely the best decision. It's a gravel road but the view over the coastline is so beautiful and I saw a lot of Cape Barren Goose, Purple Swamp Wallabies and even one Echidna. And this one didn't care at all. He/she kept on searching for ants.
    After a fast stop at the supermarket I was back at the campground at 5:30pm. Did just charge my phone, was resting a little bit and had some wraps as a quick lunch. Got changed into warmer clothes as it's getting pretty cloudy and also much colder now and I have a few hours outside in front of me. 6:30pm I left the campground to drive the short drive (15min) to the Penguin Parade, very excited!     Penguin Parade

    After parking the car I walked up to the center and had a look around there.
    Was then deciding that I can go already to my viewing platform, I have booked a Penguin Plus ticket. Should be the one with the best view. Hope and see.
    It was a short walk down to the beach. Got checked twice so everyone is ending up where he/she is supposed to.
    I arrived at the platform at 7:15pm, 1 hour before the sunset and estimated arrival time of the penguins. Lucky me. I got a perfect spot to sit. From here I can see the beach and the penguins passing me. I am sitting in the second row, so very close to the penguins.
    And I had nice neighbors. Got to talk to an older couple from south of Sydney and so the time we had to wait was passing by very fast.
    Shortly before 8pm one of the rangers had a short talk, we are not allowed to take pictures as the penguins have very sensitive eyes and people always happen to use the flashlight in a mistake. To bad, but good for the penguins. I managed anyway to take some pictures with the night mode. 🙊
    The Little Blue Penguins are just about 35-40cm tall. So very small.
    At 8:07pm we saw some penguins on the hill coming out of their nest and just a few minutes later, probably just 2 minutes later there was suddenly hundreds of penguins coming out of the water and running up the beach.
    I can't describe what I have seen tonight. It was amazing and there are no words for this.
    You have to go there and see it by yourself!
    Just so amazing. 50 minutes after the first penguins come on shore they where closing the viewing platform and everyone had to go back to the center and their cars. I got back to the campground at 9:30pm and it took me a while to fall asleep.    Read more

    Churchill Island

    I woke up around 8:15 am this morning. It was a really warm and lovely night!
    Unfortunately it very cloudy today and it's, at least here on Phillip Island, not supposed to get better anytime soon.
    So I decided I am leaving today and had first of all a shower, because that I forgot yesterday after all the penguins I saw!
    After the shower I had breakfast and was leaving the campground at 10 am.
    On the way back to the mainland I decided I can also drive to Churchill Island first and take a walk over the Island. Nice and easy walk. Churchill Island is home to many seabirds some month during the year and a very important for them.
    The walk took me around 30 minutes and after that I left the islands for this time, but I will come back to this beautiful paradise!
    From here I went to Frankston to look for a new underwater camera, and I found one! What a relief!
    From Frankston I went straight to Sorrento to take the ferry over to Queenscliff and this time I was lucky and could drive into the ferry straight away and we were leaving Sorrento shortly past 2 pm.
    The ride took 40 minutes and was going smooth.
    I almost crashed the left mirror by driving off the ferry, as some people are always to late back to their cars and I was on the left from 3 lanes and had to pass the huge SUV/truck style car and almost forgot that there is not much space on the left side of my car 😬😅
    Luckily I was noticing it just in time and nothing happened. Puh.    Read more

    Rip View Lookout and Lonsdale Lighthouse

    From the ferry I drove the short way to The Rip View Lookout and the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse.
    Took a short walk around the area and then left to driv to Torquay. In Torquay the Great Ocean Road starts. So I have booked a campground here for tonight and then I start my Great Ocean Road adventure tomorrow morning.
    There are quite a few cockatoos around here and they all have something to say obviously. Damn how noisy they can be the sulphur crested cockatoos ( white with yellow) can be.
    Had an annoying lady talking to me while cooking. At least I got some good tips from her but I was so happy when she left!
    After a shower and dinner I went to bed. Ready for tomorrows adventures.    Read more

    Rockypoint Lookout & Bird Rock Lookout

    I woke up from the cockatoos, what a surprise 🙄 They had a lot to say this morning also. I was reading for a while before I got up at 8:30am to have breakfast. After breakfast I got changed and packed all my stuff and was leaving the campground at 10 am, first Stop the supermarket, I need more wraps for the next days.
    And finally I found some L&P! Got what I was looking forward to it! Finally I got some. It's nice to try new sorts of Bundaberg, but I was also really looking forward to some L&P. After that I went to Rocky Point Lookout for a short walk around there and after that just a short driver further to Bird Rock Lookout.
    I love the color of the cliffs! Weather ist mixed, sunshine over the ocean, big grey clouds over the land. We will see, what it will be the rest of the day.
    I did a shirt walk around the Bird Rock Lookout and was then on the road again.    Read more

    Bells Beach Lookout

    Next stop was at Bells Beach. Tried to stop a few time on the way here but it was impossible to find a parking spot as everyone seems to be out surfing or is on the way out to go for a surf. A Thursday morning... Totally crazy. Every place with beach access is full with cars. Do they also have to work here? 🤔

    Point Addis Beach & Chocolateri

    Next stop on my list was at Point Addis Beach. Beautiful place with a short but steep walk down to the beach.
    Could stay here for long as some stupid biting flys tried to eat me alive. So I went to the Great Ocean Road Chocolateri.
    O my god, what a place this is! So much chocolate in all different kind of tastes.
    I bought some nuts with chocolate and an pistachio ice cream.
    Good I took just one scoop as a scoop here is huge!! 😳
    Was almost not able to eat it all up!
    From here it was just a 15 minutes drive to my next stop, so I left at 12:30pm to not be to late.    Read more

    Spring Creek Horse Rides

    I arrived at the Spring Creek Horse Ride Farm at 12:45pm. I said hello to the girls, got a helmet and was matched with Piet, my companion for the next two hours. Looking forward to a nice ride through the Otway National Park, or better I say it like this: through a small part of the Otway National Park. It's a huge park.
    We had to wait for two more people to show up as they was late. Too bad, as everyone else was arriving almost at the same time.
    As everyone was ready and up on their horse we were ready to go. Got to ride in the second position.
    Piet was lovely. He knew when to relax and walk easy but could wait to go for a trot when it was time for it.
    It was a nice ride through the bush. As all looked burned I asked, when the last fire was going in here. It was like 5 years ago a controlled burn. They do this here regularly to take away all the dead parts on the ground and the grass and smaller bushes to take away the fuel for a real bushfire.
    It's a really important part of this country to protect the land and animals from the server fires like in 2019/2020.
    After over 2 hours we were back at the farm. Piet got a good scratch from me and then it was time to say goodbye already again.

    Loveridge View & Point Roadknight Beach

    From my Horse Trek I went to Anglesea and the Loveridge view.
    What a beautiful place. I really love the cliffs in this area. They are so stunning.
    Next stop, just a few minutes away, Point Roadknight Beach. Also a really beautiful place with so soft sand and the beautiful cliffs again.
    Angeles seems to be a really nice place.
    But I had booked an other campground so I have to keep on going.

    Urquhart Bluff and Reef Lookout

    It's not far from Anglesea to Aireys Inlet.
    I stopped two more times. First up Urquhart Bluff, no big walk just a short stroll to the lookout.
    Next up was the Reef Lookout. Googlemaps was sending me a strange way so I ended up in a living area on a street that stopped there. Just a few meters away from the carpark on the other side of the bushes.
    I could park the car on the side of the road here and saw an cockatoo checking out the bins.
    It was just a short walk up to the lookout and after that it was time to go to the campground.
    I arrived there at 5:30pm and it just started to rain.
    So I was waiting to build up my tent. Again there are many cockatoos around here. As noisy as yesterday.
    After a shower I went to cook dinner.
    As I came back to my car around 8:30pm it was totally dark and there were no lights at all in this area. So I managed to get mein phone stuck in the license plate of my car so I had at least a little bit light to built up my tent. It was raining again, just a little drizzle but annoying.
    I got my tent up quick and was laying town.
    I did rain quite a few times during the rest of the evening and the beginning of the night. But my tent was holding!
    Big day in front of me tomorrow. The plan ist to get up early and leave latestly at 9 am.    Read more

    Landsend Lookout

    I woke up around 7 am this morning. Got up around 7:30. Was packing some stuff from my tent into the car. The tent is really wet so I hope it will dry a little bit until I am leaving.
    I went to the campkitchen for breakfast.
    After a while a man showed up to prepare popcorn. For breakfast. At 8 am ...
    We started to talk a little bit about traveling and so on. But he went on pretty fast again. I guess he have some kids waiting for the popcorn. Who knows 🤷
    After breakfast I went to back down the tent, but it's still super wet, now sun in this corner of the campground so far. I tried to dry it with a towel, was going ok but it's just to wet.
    So I went to brush my teeth and change. And when I can back, i was just throwing the wet tent into the car. Already lost some minutes so I wanted to get going.
    I left the campground in Airleys Inlet at 9:13am. 13 minutes later then planned.
    First stop was just a short drive away, Landsend Lookout.
    What an incredible place!
    I went down to the beach too and so this huge hole in the cliff. How amazing is this!
    And the weather is so lovely, still a little bit fresh, but that's ok.    Read more

    Sentinel Rock

    Next up, just a short drive to another carpark away, Sentinel Rock. Also very nice but I loved the Galah Cockatoos the most! They are so beautiful and so cute and so quite compare to the other once 😅😂

    Road Monument & Devils Elbow

    Next stop was the Road Monument. Had to wait a little bit to take a picture as there was a bus load of people arriving just before me. And when I was done and in the way to the car, the next bus was arriving..
    Wonder how they can do the whole Great Ocean Road in just one day. They miss so much..
    Good I am not doing this.
    Next stop was at Devil's Elbow, I love the coastline and all the beautiful beaches around here. So amazing.    Read more
