After a long day in Pompeii, we spent the next four days in Sorrento having some much needed rest and relaxation!
We spent our days playing in the pool and our late afternoons/evenings in the town eating and shopping. The view from our hotel was awesome and the town was cute with many small shops down skinny alleys.
The wildest part, though, was watching the scooters, cars and buses navigate the roads! There seemed to be no rules for scooters but it seemed that cars and buses respected the lack of rules. It was better to watch this than to watch a movie!Leer más
After our Vesuvius hike, we finished off our day following the Rick Steves' walking tour of Pompeii.
This was fascinating to walk through but it was so hot that we decided to cut our tour short. The time we spent here was worthwhile and gave us a good sense of how big the city was and how well the Roman's engineered their cities.Leer más
This was an adventure! We started on a bus driving through what looked like Mexico as our driver swerved and honked while singing Italian songs. We arrived outside Mt. Vesuvius and switched to a 4-wheel drive vehicle and enjoyed (?) a turbulent ride hitting every pot hole that existed on a "road" that eventually ended at the drop zone 30 minutes walk from the summit.
After a hike to the top of the volcano we enjoyed a walk around the rim of the crater. It looked like the top of a mountain was missing and a big crater was in its place. It wasn't the hollywood version of a volcano with steam venting or lava bubbling :) but it was cool to see!
One of the best parts were the yellow wild flowers that were growing. They were so fragrant and beautiful.Leer más
