    Last day away

    December 1, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We had a late breakfast of kaya toast, chicken bao and iced Kopi c (S$10 for two of us) then packed up and sat by the pool for a little while. Getting too hot we decided to go to the airport early where we shopped and read before our flight. The flight home wasn't too bad - it was full though and I was happy we booked two seats on the side together. We arrived about 30 minutes early and immigration and customs, though busy, didn't take us too long. Wow what a holiday! Thanks to those who've read along. Now I don't need to tell you what we did! I've got a few more days before I become the on duty pharmacist again...hopefully the next holiday won't be too far away.Read more

    Shopping and swimming

    November 29, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we had breakfast (S$6 for 2 lots of kaya toast and 2 iced coffees) then headed to the Bugis Street markets to have a look around. We then headed to the Bugis Junction shopping centre - I picked up a few small things. B wanted to look in the huge book shop at Takashimaya at Orchard Road so on the MRT we hopped. We wanted to have lunch there but couldn't find a table so went to a food republic food court close by. Noodle and wonton soup for both of us...including a calamansi juice (like a lime) was less than S$10. Will miss the food prices in Singapore! We then came back to the hotel for a pool afternoon. Very relaxing. Dinner was Japanese, we had around 8 small dishes and two drinks for S$50. We stopped at Baskin and Robbins for ice cream - S$4 for a small scoop. We then headed back for our last night in Singapore. We leave late tomorrow night so still have a little time to enjoy!Read more

    Lazy day

    November 28, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we slept in after a late night then relaxed a bit before going out for lunch - dim sum! We had 4 dishes - steamed flour roll with bbq chicken, prawn dumplings, fried sweet and sour wontons and duck spring rolls. We also got an iced tea each and the total was S$45. We then went and bought our favorite Singapore spread - kaya then went back to the room and went to the pool for few hours. Then we got ready to go out - we had a drink at Raffles (Singapore sling for B, Moscow Mule for me, we shared some chips and of course peanuts. It's expensive there - S$80). Then we went to Loof for a few hours and had 1 large cider, 2 asahi, 3 cocktails and 2 food plates to share (S$144). We loved it there - great atmosphere. We then came back and jumped in the pool for a bit then the spa. Great day with the best travel buddy one could ask for.Read more

    Universal Studios Singapore

    November 27, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we got up at 7am and got ready for a day at Universal Studios! We weren't sure if we were going to go or not early in the holiday but we decided we wanted to go - good decision! We got the MRT to Harbourfront and got breakfast - 2 slices of Kaya toast and iced kopi c (coffee) for me and 3 bbq chicken bao (steamed bun) and iced kopi c for B (S$8). We then got the monorail to Sentosa Island. We found Universal and bought tickets. We didn't hold back here as we've been pretty good money wise so far and haven't really bought any extra things. So we got 2 day passes and 2 express passes which allow you in a super short queue for most attractions. This was so worth it - especially later in the day when line times were getting up to 45 minutes in 30 degree heat in sticky Singapore. We went on all the rides at least twice. Our favorite was the Mummy Ride (which we may have gone on 5 times). The rides were all really good and really well themed unlike what we get on the Gold Coast. For lunch we popped out to Chilis for chicken salad and chicken pieces for B. Both good. We then continued with the rides until we called it a day at around 5.15pm. We then checked out the beach area of Sentosa before making it back to the hotel. For dinner we had chicken rice from the kopitiam (food court). Yum! We were naughty for dessert - I got good chocolate tart and B got a brownie. Sorry for the lack of photos...we decided to go phone less today to make our day easier.Read more

    Time travel

    November 26, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

So this is a strange post as we left London at 9am and arrived in Singapore at 6am the next day - plane was about 12 hours. It was probably the emptiest I've seen a flight - a row of 3 seats per one passenger. It was fairly good really. We arrived pretty tired with the task of staying awake all day. We got a taxi to Oasia Novena (S$21) and dropped our bags off. We got some coffee then got the train to Bugis for the Nike Basketball store for B and Sephora for me. We had to wait a few hours till it opened which was challenging! Shoes were acquired, nothing took my fancy though. Next we had lunch at a favorite place that has chicken and rice with cheese. I wasn't feeling well - tummy is bit off. Then we came back and hoped our room would be ready...success! It's great! We chilled out for a bit then headed to the pool before being washed out by a thunder storm. We've both had sleepy moments today with the other waking us up. B is snoring now (5.15pm) better wake him before we get dinner and really hit the hay. It feels great to be back in Singapore - a place we both like very muchRead more

    Last day in London

    November 25, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Today (yesterday as I'm writing this) we set out at about 9.30am to Leicester Square. We bought three tickets to Jersey Boys for 3pm. We then went to the Natural History museum - I didn't realize just how big giraffes are. They had a taxidermy giraffe and heaps of other animals. We then grabbed lunch at Jamie's diner and headed for Picadilly Theatre for the show. The man next to me (he was about 50) said he was the youngest in the theatre.... to which I replied "oh thanks" haha. The show was great - a few differences to the version we saw in Brisbane but still excellent. We really like most of the music in the show so that's a bonus too. We left the theatre and emerged in a dark London (5.30pm). We walked to Trafalgar Square (still playing Monopoly) then found a pub to have a pint. We then had dinner and got home. The next morning we headed to Heathrow for the flight to Singapore and said goodbye to C. Stay tuned for the Singapore part of our trip.Read more

    Real life Monopoly

    November 23, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Today we set out near Buckingham Palace, walked past some very horsey horses, downing street, Trafalgar square and made our way to the London Dungeon to embark on a scary but fun adventure. After this we grabbed some lunch, checked out the London Eye from the bottom and went for a stroll along the Thames. We found a bus and jumped on for half a circuit to Tower bridge. We got off and got on a catamaran for a trip back to the London Eye. We then strolled to find coffee (yum! And warm, bonus). A bit weary we found a Tube station and rode to Oxford Circus to check out the shopping. We all got a book and B found some xbox games (a little bit cheaper than Aus). The Christmas decorations and feel of Oxford Street was great. Very busy but it added to the atmosphere. We then got back on the tube to ride back to the apartment. On our walk back we got some ciders and subway for an easy 8pm dinner. We walked about 15km today but saw what we wanted without feeling rushed. Last full day in London tomorrow!Read more

    London's Calling

    November 22, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌙 1 °C

We had a very cruisy morning just relaxing at the house in Canterbury before taking an afternoon train to London. I had a great time in Canterbury - there are still many quaint buildings and it had a great feel to it. Thanks to everyone in Canterbury for being so welcoming! B and I have been away for 3 weeks now so it was great to catch up with family and have a great night out. We then got a black cab (so cool! ) to our apartment. We ventured out for burgers and chips which were really enjoyable. B said the other day he's had enough pizza and pasta to last him a year - I told him I'd hold him to that! Three burgers with chips and three soft drinks £25. We got back to the apartment to have an early night. Lee and his friend arrived soon after to see some sights of London over the next day or two.Read more

    Chilly Canterbury

    November 22, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌙 1 °C

We woke to a shining example of English weather - no sun shining at all. Looking at the weather we were in for a balmy 7 degree maximum. Still think we'd rather this than the 36 degree days home is getting at the moment. I finally cracked out my specially bought winter leggings to put under my jeans. Boy were these fantastic. American Apparel is on to something here. We walked around Canterbury and saw some historical sites and the high street and busy shops. We stopped for a pint before walking back to the warm house. For dinner we ventured out to an English pub for a great meal before a few more drinks to warm us up. A great day - what a quaint city.Read more

    English countryside

    November 21, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌙 0 °C

Yesterday B and I flew from Rome to Bristol on EasyJet. Our first experience on a European low cost carrier - it was actually not too bad after a little bit of a delay. We arrived to the smiling faces of Pattie and Lee (my mum's cousin and her son). An hour drive had us in their town of Melksham and saw us meeting Zoe (Pattie's daughter) and Iris (Pattie's mum and my late nanna's sister). After a great night at their house (thank you again!) we explored Bath with Lee. On the train again we traveled to Canterbury to see Daniel. We're staying at B's brother's parents in law's house. Can't wait to explore here some more!Read more
