    Bundaberg Rum Distillery

    The Rum Distillery was presented beautifully, and the tour was very informative. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history and production process. There is also a museum section that has a wealth of information about the site's history.

    Your ticket includes two rum options for tasting at the end, which gives you a chance to try some of the newer, more niche offerings. For an additional fee, you can try your hand at blending and creating your very own unique rum.    Leia mais

    The Bundaberg Barrel

    Very interesting free self-guided tour. It was small but fascinating. This interactive tour gave you a glimpse of how they started the company with the option to peek into the actual factory in real time! "Cliffy," the yellow truck, is encased in glass outside, and the barrel is quite big.

    For a small fee, you get to try all the types of drinks that Bundaberg Ginger Beer Brewery produces and choose a 6-pack to take home (sweet and bubbly).    Leia mais

    Bundy Belle River Cruise

    Last day in Bundaberg. This afternoon, we all went on the Bundy Belle Burnett River Cruise for Kat's birthday. After the cruise, we headed to the Spotted Dog restaurant for dinner.

    Our afternoon on the Bundy Belle was very pleasant. We were entertained with some local music. Dale, the boat captain, gave a commentary on the history of the river and the buildings along the banks, including the Australian Aborigines and early settlers, all interspersed with the occasional joke.

    We were offered light refreshments, which were included in the price. We had tea or coffee, along with biscuits and a lamington cake. Yum!    Leia mais

    We booked into Seventeen Seventy Eco Camp Agnes Waters for seven nights but only stayed for one.
    What they advertised was not what we had expected, so it was a bit disappointing not to have drinking water and a dump point.

    We managed to get two sites at Lake Awoonga Caravan Park.
    What an amazing place!
    The caravan park overlooks the lake, with quiet surroundings.
    It's a great spot for fishing, with lots of rock wallabies, native fauna, native birds, and amazing sunsets.

    Kroombit Tops Lookout

    Afternoon trip to the Kroombit Tops Lookout—what a fantastic view! It was well worth the drive in a 4WD. The track is rocky and somewhat steep at some points, making it a great drive for anyone who loves nature, wildlife, views, and 4X4 driving.

    It offers one of the most gorgeous views I've ever seen—simply stunning and spectacularly amazing views of the surrounding bushland.

    In February 1945, an American Liberator Bomber, "Beautiful Betsy", crashed into what is now Kroombit Tops National Park while on a "Fat Cat" run from Darwin to Brisbane, transporting men and supplies as part of a regular flight.

    The wreckage of "Beautiful Betsy" was not discovered until 49 years later, on 2 August 1994, when park ranger Mark Roe was checking the results of a controlled burn-off in Kroombit Tops National Park, about 80 kilometres from Gladstone.

    Fraser Park Lookout

    Fraser Park Lookout is located atop the beautiful Mount Archer National Park, offering fantastic views of the national park on one side and Rockhampton, the river, and the surrounding areas on the other.

    There are a few walks to choose from; however, the canopy walk is particularly beautiful, as is the Grass Tree walking trail. The Nurim Circuit is well-designed and well-thought-out, with wide paths, natural native landscaping, and informative plaques dotted along the walk.

    Capricorn Caves

    Another great, hidden little gem. Today, we visited the Capricorn Caves and took the Cathedral tour.

    These cave systems are different from any other caves we have ever experienced. Our tour guide was very informative and highlighted some very unique features. It was great learning about the geology and natural history of the caves, and we even spotted a few tiny bats.

    The cathedral at the end was amazing!
    Playing the song "Hallelujah" by Pentatonix in the Cathedral Cave in complete darkness was a nice touch.

    Memorial Walk Emu Park

    Found this hidden masterpiece of Australian cultural heritage at Emu Park. It is a very well-conceived and maintained tribute to all service personnel. The memorial walk begins at the singing ship and proceeds to the ANZAC court via the gatehouse.

    Such an informative and memorable walk. We could have spent more time in the fact-filled and comprehensive gatehouse midway up the track, but we were pressed for time. If you look at the photos from the gatehouse, each cross represents a fallen soldier.

    Turtle Lookout 🐢

    Stopped at Capricorn Coast National Park to get some drone footage, but we also did the walk up to Turtle Lookout. Phil and I are a little out of shape, but we enjoyed every step, up, up, and around. We had fabulous views of the bay, Great & North Keppel Islands. We saw the coastline littered with post-volcanic rocks, and we saw turtles popping up for a breath of air as they swam in the waters below!

    Turtle Lookout truly was a unique and magical experience.    Leia mais

    Koorana Crocodile Farm 🐊

    Visited Koorana Crocodile Farm today, and it was excellent. Alex was a great tour guide and very informative; he gave great insight into a real working crocodile farm.
    This place is all about education and conservation.

    It was a great experience being so close to all the crocodiles and learning about these wonderful creatures. We all loved holding the four-year-old baby crocodile at the end; it was very soft.    Leia mais

    Finch Hatton Gorge

    Finch Hatton Gorge is a natural wonder that exceeded all expectations! With cascades, waterfalls, rock pools, and a beautiful walking track through lush rainforest and moss-covered boulders.

    The walking trails are well-maintained, with an easy walk to Araluen Cascades. The walking trail to the Wheel of Fire is more challenging. Once you reach Callistemon Crossing, you need to do a lot of rock-hopping across a river, which is dangerous and slippery. We ended up turning back and only explored the Araluen Cascades.Leia mais

    Easy walk among the mangrove wetlands in Cape Hillsborough National Park. This elevated wooden boardwalk winds its way through the mangroves before the walking trail turns into a slow climb up a hill. At the top, you can see water views through the trees.Leia mais

    Today, we did both the sugar and rum tour. The tour was packed with information about the history of the cane farms in Sarina and the surrounding areas, as well as how sugar is made, from planting to table. We learned how the sugar mill works, from the old to the new, and the entire sugar process, from growing to products, and the history and machinery used. We also learned how sugarcane and sugar products are made, with tastings of raw sugarcane, sugar juice, and rum. At the end, there was also a tasting of chutneys, sauces, and non-alcoholic ginger beer.Leia mais

    Rotary Lookout & WWII Radar Site

    A great vantage point to look over Horseshoe Bay. A relatively easy walk up some old concrete steps and over granite boulders to a steel mesh viewing platform. It can also be a bit windy at the top!

    The WWII Radar Site lookout is not exactly obvious; you need to climb some rocks and boulders, follow faded arrows that are now yellow dots, but once you get there, you will be blown away by the view.

    Both lookouts are amazing, but Rotary is perhaps more for the sunset itself because that's the way it faces. You can see Murray Bay and Rose Bay from the highest point in the area from the WWII radar site.    Leia mais

    Flagstaff Hill Lookout

    Beautiful lookout with amazing views of the coastline around Bowen. It was a nice place to come for a drive; there was a view of the jetty on one side and the ocean on the other. There's not much at the lookout apart from some walking trails.

    While Phil was landing his drone after obtaining some aerial footage, he managed to annoy some falcons, which made for a good photo opportunity.    Leia mais

    Pioneer Tours Glass Bottom Boats

    This morning, we went on the glass-bottom boat tour. The tour guide provided explanations throughout about the reef ecosystem and marine life around us. The fun-loving tour guide also shared many facts about the islands.

    We saw dolphins, lots of cool reef corals, and some sea life, but we didn't get to see any turtles. The Great Barrier Reef is a natural wonder. It amazes me to think we only saw a small part of it.    Leia mais

    Cedar Creek Falls

    Cedar Creek Falls is a picturesque and lovely spot and a favourite swimming hole with locals and visitors alike. When we arrived, there wasn’t much water flowing. The falls usually only flow in the summer months after a lot of rain.

    There is a short walk up to the top of the falls if you want to explore. However, it was rugged and looked steep and possibly slippery due to the recent rain.

    Overall, if it weren't raining when we arrived, it would be a beautiful place to relax, swim, and have lunch. There were even some roosters in the car park.    Leia mais

    Wallaman Falls

    Wallaman Falls is 269 metres high, and its height above sea level is 540 metres. I really enjoyed the drive up to the falls; the scenery was beautiful the whole way. There were even signs stating to watch out for cassowaries, but we didn’t see any. We did come across some cattle on the road.

    As Australia’s tallest single-drop waterfall, the views are absolutely spectacular, and the gorge is stunning. We didn’t do the hike down, as the views from the top viewing areas were impressive enough, and the waterfall is quite fascinating to watch.    Leia mais

    TYTO Wetlands

    TYTO Wetlands takes its name from the Eastern Grass Owl, Tyto longimembris. This lovely area offers many different walks from which to choose. It is well laid out and utterly beautiful, making it a great place to spend time walking and watching wildlife, especially birds. There are plenty of benches, especially in prime spots, and there's even a proper bird hide. It was a lovely, serene place to visit.

    There are also many warning signs for crocodiles, but we didn’t see any (probably for the best).    Leia mais

    Hinchinbrook Lookout

    Spectacular views from the lookout over the mangroves and Hinchinbrook Island, with great educational information at your fingertips!

    The actual Hinchinbrook lookout has power lines directly across it, which does spoil the view. Therefore, it is well worth walking up the few steps to the Panjoo lookout, which has a much better and clearer view.Leia mais

    Attie Creek Falls is truly a gorgeous spot with a few different falls/cascades. To get to the top falls, it's a 1.4km round-trip uphill, which was well worth the cardio exercise.

    As the falls are seasonal, we were fortunate that they were flowing after the recent rain. The pool at the base of the falls is truly inviting.Leia mais

    Lucinda Jetty

    Today is our last day in Lucinda. We decided to go for a walk and take a look at the bulk sugar terminal jetty.

    This jetty is 5.7 kilometres long and is supported by 660 concrete and steel pylons that hug the contour of the Earth. It is the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

    The jetty enables Lucinda to receive the largest ships used in the raw sugar trade. It transports sugar along a conveyor from the onshore storage to the shiploader, which takes 22 minutes to travel.

    It would be nice if you could walk or ride your bike on the jetty, but unfortunately, it is a private jetty not open to the public.    Leia mais
