      Sunshine Coast Hinterland

      September 8, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We started at the Glasshouse Mountains look out. I was most disappointing to find out the Captain Cook named the mountains after the glass furnaces in Yorkshire of which they reminded him. I was expecting something a bit more romantic like they look like glass when the dawn light reflects off them or something like that.

We made our way to Maleny, went to Mary Cairncross park and did a rainforest walk. My favourite tree was the strangler fig. The seed germinates in the canopy, sends down roots that eventually strangle and kill the host tree.

From there we went to have lunch with my uncle and aunt. They’ve a wonderful spot in Maleny and we had a very enjoyable afternoon.
We took a while to decide on a route home but followed the Blackall Range Scenic drive to Nambour and then multiple roads to get back to Beerwah while avoiding motorways (because they are boring). The secenic drive was very scenic. We climbed quite high and had a good view of the coast and ocean.

Yesterday we bought salad to have with our meals last night and tonight. I cooked the meat on the barbecue that is here and it’s a quick and simple meal. Much easier than going out. Unfortunately the mini fridge we have in our room must have the temperature set too low and the salad froze. So we had a pork steak, a bit of last night’s leftover chicken and some cheese for tea. If we get hungry a bit later on we can always have some muesli.

      Monteville

      September 20, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

We drove up to Monteville for the day. We had heard it is a lovely little town with wonderful shops and were not disappointed. The main street is very hilly but what a view.
I loved going into all of the shops. I can definitely say that if we weren't in the van the credit card would have taken a big hit. I saw a beautiful chair that I really loved but wouldn't fit in the van. (Bugger)Read more

      Main St, Montville

      March 5, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We've wondered up to Montville Main St for a wander before we head out of the Sunshine Coast back into Brisbane. Our first stop is for a delicious Devonshire Tea at Camphor Cottage. The scones were scrumptious, and my peach tea was so relaxing.

We also had a table guest, Mr Montville Lizard. This guy gave no f's legit just came and hung out at our table for some sunbaking and company. I've never seen such a big lizard so chill and so up close before! Camphor Cottage also has Dr Seuss artwork and gift shop attached, and has some very interesting stock!

We've wandered around to various stops, and the Poets Cafe has taken our fancy. Got a beautiful Mountain View overlooking the valley. Our lunch is a caramel thickshake and bangers and mash for Michael, and a Mexican Lime soda and poached chicken with vegetables. Utterly delicious!!!!

    • Day 4

      Kondalilla Falls, Flaxton

      March 4, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

After spending an extra hour at Mooloolaba to shop at this really Beautiful and unique dress shop called Treasure Hunt (it had one of a kind items, vintage items, and local QLD designers items and was just gorgeous), we wound our way up to Kondalilla Falls as the forecast said the rains would be done by 4pm. The drive up was full of twists and turns, and very eerie and mystical in spots due to the low cloud cover and mist.

The full track is around 5kms or so, on very narrow paths with a lot of stairs down and back up. It was very lush, reminding me of Tarra Bulga national park back home. The rain made it extra cool, and made everything even greener. We wandered down to the Kondalilla fall lookout at the waterfall. As we have had 2 days of pumping rain, it was nice and full! The fall is 80m tall, and we walked down to the base and over a bunch of rocks to reach the pool at the bottom. It was stunning but hard work as we had slippage and rain to deal with, but definately worth the extra effort. If it wasn't so slippery and full, we would have gone for a swim!

Then, as we were just finishing up our rock climb back to the path, it BUCKETED rain. We got drenched! Had to walk the 3km back up to the rock pools at lightnight pace, through mud, rock and stone. It was hectic. Luckily my backpack really did it's weight in gold and held all the water without leaking inside to the goodies. It was hectic and tough and we came out of it drenched in water and sweat.

As we got back to the rock pools, it stopped raining, and we got to have a look at the Beautiful swimming hole up the top of the main waterfall, which was full of rain and the baby waterfall into it was flowing with gusto. We made the decision not to swim as it can get a bit hectic when there's lots of water and it's slippery, but we enjoyed it none the less. On the way back we even spotted a wild wallaby, which froze us and it in our respective tracks to suss each other out before bolting off.

Overall, a wonderful way to end the day with a sense of achievement, and knowing we had worked off the burgers at lunch in the process 😂😂😂

      Hike to Kondallila falls

      June 11, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We're staying in Caloundra since we could find the beat affortable accomodation here, but we really wanted to visit another national park. After an easy morning we drove 45 min into the hinterland of the Sunshine coast, through Montville, a typical cosy hill town, to do a hike in the Kondallila national park to see some nice green scenery and water falls. The tropical forest relaxes the mind and we all love to exercise outdoors, so we're all happy. The falls were big (80m) and there were plenty of sticks, rocks and leaves to play with! Great day in nature!Read more

      Magical Montville ☀️

      November 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

It is always such a buzz at the airport! ✈️🕺🏼…Seriously, no other place gives me such a sense of freedom and adventure… it is exceptionally atmospheric at the moment due to the Christmas 🎄 vibe! I can only imagine the exhilarating feeling of travelling 🧭 overseas (…to London perhaps 😉) for the festive season.

It is so nice to know I am heading out of Melbourne‘s unpredictable weather to, what I hope 🤞 will be plenty of sunshine ☀️ and consistent temperatures! Melbourne weather has been exasperating lately. The wind 🌬️ was freezing 🥶 on the tarmac! 😳

Arrived at the ‘International’ terminal of Maroochydore Airport to be greeted by cloudy skies, and 73% humidity and Robyn and Mike greeted me & we headed to the Surf 🏄‍♂️ club at Bob Downe’s old stomping ground: Mooloolaba for a refreshing XXXX 🍺 then continued on to the hills to Montville, where they are now residing. It’s a great little village with a Dandenong Ranges Sassafras-type feel & vibe. Their apartment sits atop a coffee shop and a bakery; both owned by a friendly local who greeted us on arrival. Robyn has the fairy lights twinkling ✨ on a balcony overlooking the village with the Italian 🇮🇹 bunting flapping in the breeze 💚🤍❤️

Robyn prepared a delicious spread of typical Italian meats, cheeses 🧀 olives 🫒 and scrumptious pickled cauliflower with olive bread 🥖 Such a great treat which inevitably led to much talk about Italy & sharing photos of past trips.

We walked along the main street of Montville as the wind 🌬️ rustled through the trees 🌳 and Christmas 🎄 lights adorned the buildings. We even saw a kookaburra sitting quietly on an art installation looking a bit lost…

Back at the apartment we had some delicious poached pears that tasted of red wine, cloves, cinnamon and sugar with marscapone cheese. A perfect way to finish a delightful day 🥰
