    Nordkette, Innsbruck

    September 2, 2016 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Read more

    auf'm Gipfel

    December 18, 2018 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ -5 °C

"Don't trip! I won't be coming after you

    September 30, 2015 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

Today we went up to the top of the alps by Innsbruck. We were quite lucky that by the time we got up there the cloud had shifted a bit and one side of the alps was clear, the city side was complete cloud. But I think we got to see the better side anyway! I'd like to say that there was a lot of climbing to get up to the top but we took 2 gondolas and a tram! There was a 10 minute walk to the peak and we were both short of breath (from the altitude of course! Ha!). It was incredibly steep either side of the peak. Beautiful though! 2334m above sea level. Austria's steepest ski root, 70% decline. So you wouldn't ski down so much as hover down!

There were mountain goat signs but much to my disappointment I didn't see any. The only animal I've seen is a squirrel, we did see a dead fox but that was more depressing! My search for wildlife continues.

    Innsbruck Efficiency

    September 3, 2018 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

So this afternoon I fronted up at the Accident Department of Innsbruck Hospital to get my hand/wrist checked out. I had psyched myself up for a very long wait but in very Austrian efficiency I was in seen, x-rayed, diagnosed, reported on, strapped up and back out the door in .... drum roll .... 70 minutes! Unbelievable !

Anyway the excellent news is that nothing is broken or fractured, just very bad muscle bruising and wrist sprain.

Just as well they spoke excellent English as I would have had a problem reading this report!

    Happiness Factor: High😊

Going to the top part 02

    December 26, 2015 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ -7 °C

We took the cable car from hungerburg station, and continue our climb up. We have now reached Seegrube station, at an altitude of 6,250 ft. Its high! Higher than what we have reached in heidelberg. But strangly, its not very cold. Perhaps its due to the strong sun that is glaring at us feom the cloudless sky. There is a skiing park here that lets people learn to ski. Is this our final climb?Read more

Going to the top part 03

    December 26, 2015 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ -6 °C

Finally we took the last cable car ride up to Hafelekar station, at an impressive 7,401 ft high. We sat at the outdoor seating of a cafe at the station and enjoyed our cappucino and beer, looking at the peak 200m away. What a way to chill. Literally chill lol. The top is quiet and serene! And full of snow finally!Read more

A quick visit to the alpine zoo

    December 26, 2015 in Austria ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

We took a quick visit to the alpine zoo along the way down to the town, since its free using the innsbruck card. But why quick? Because the whole zoo is build on the mountain slope and in order to get to the other animals, you gota sclimb up the hill. And the hill is steeeeep. So the biggest animal we seen before we got KO and turn back was the wolf.Read more
