  • Yellowstone, Days 1-3

    5 settembre 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

    Yellowstone, you are real cool.

Days 1-3 of our national park adventure included seeing lots and lots of crazy geysers, staying at the historic and beautiful Old Faithful Inn, hiking 24+ miles, having a sketchy encounter with a male elk while walking back from one said hike, learning a sorts of science facts and eating a lot of ice cream.

After one hot day of hiking, we got some snacks and camped out in front of Grand Geyser, the tallest predictable geyser in the world, waiting for it to erupt. We had to wait over an hour but what a sight once it started - powerful bursts that shoot 200 feet in the air. So cool.

Everything in the park we saw was beautiful and colorful. Such an amazing first few days.

  • Hello Idaho!!

    30 agosto 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Made it across the first state line of our road trip and to McCall, Idaho to visit our good friends Jenny and Skylar.

Jenny, the ever active half-robot, half-human, planned a hike for our first full day up to Box Lake. Just a casual 7-miles round trip with 2500’ elevation gain. Brice wasn’t the happiest but the view at the top was lovely and the cold beers and fries after well earned.Leggi altro

  • See Ya Later, Portland!

    29 agosto 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Oh Portland, thank you for such a lovely extended visit! My 8 weeks back in town flew by. It was wonderful to have quality time with my parents and so many friends, and to enjoy Oregon summer - wine tasting, hiking, patio dinners, laying in the park. (More summer highlights on my other blog). While the time in Portland was super nice, I’m excited to be back on the road and see some beautiful new places.Leggi altro

  • 25 Years of Friendship

    26 agosto 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Went on a short hike around Wahkeena Falls (such a pretty spot!) the other day with my friend Laura, her new baby and her adorable dog.

We discussed how friendships can evolve, grow and sometimes fade out over time with all the changes life can bring. Relationships can be hard to maintain while living in different locations around the world and in different aspects in life.

We have been friends since we were 10, or maybe even earlier as our moms met when we were babies. I feel extra thankful we’ve managed to keep this friendship despite all our moves, job changes and now kiddos.

It was so nice spending the day together. Plus we got to stop at Sugarpine Drivein on the way back for amazing lunch and delicious ice cream.

  • We're Now White Water Kayakers!

    16 agosto 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We just spent the last 3 days out on the Klickitat River with @wetplanet learning to white water kayak. Man is it hard - mentally challenging, a little intimidating at times (especially flipping over with current and rocks), and certainly physically tough.

That being said, it is beautiful out on the water, our guides and fellow kayakers were awesome, and I’m feeling mighty accomplished now as we conquered a lot of Class 2 rapids and one big Class 3 called Ishy Pishy. 💪🏻

My body is now very sore and I’m thankful we don’t have to be on the water today, but so glad we did it!

  • Beautiful Hard Hike on Mt Hood

    21 luglio 2019, Stati Uniti ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Awesome day hiking up on Mt Hood with some girls from CFPD. Talk about gorgeous views - we saw all the mountains: Rainier, St Helens, Adams, Jefferson, even the Sisters.

The monarch butterflies were even out in full force to our surprise. They were everywhere, which got a little eerie at times with thousands swarming us at any given moment. And then there were all the ladybugs (do they migrate with butterflies?!). They would not leave us alone and one even bit Celina, so she claims. Who knew that was a thing.

So much fun catching up with these girls and getting in a great hike.

  • 10 Years of Marriage

    14 giugno 2019, Fiji ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Well time flies. Brice and I have now been married for over 10 years!

Fiji seemed like the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary when we were there in June. We debated exactly what we wanted to do but landed on getting all dressed up in white, doing a mini vow renewal over a nice dinner on our basically private beach, and getting these beautiful professional photos taken.

Here are a few of our favorites!

  • Magical Fiji

    7 giugno 2019, Fiji ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Fiji is insane. So glad we added this to our itinerary.

Resorts are beautiful and filled with so many activities - snorkeling from the shore, yoga overlooking the water, tubing in the ocean at sunset, game nights, hiking.

Sure, the service isn't amazing at most of the island resorts as "Fiji Time" is definitely a really thing here but we are meeting fun people at the communal dinners, reading a lot while overlooking the ocean, and soaking up all the views.

  • Auckland Adventures

    5 marzo 2019, Nuova Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

    Made it to Continent #6!!!

After so long in Thailand with its awful air pollution and humidity, it's so nice to be in New Zealand with beautiful parks and clean air.

Plus we got to catch up with our friend Ella who we met in Wadi Rum, Jordan. It was so fun having her show us around her hometown of Auckland.Leggi altro

  • Hong Kong in 3 Days

    1 marzo 2019, Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Three short days spent exploring Hong Kong: hawking at all the giant buildings, walking almost 30 miles, hiking Lion Rock for a full view of the city, somewhat hopelessly trying to find vegetarian food, wandering through the markets, admiring the Symphony of Lights show on the night skyline, and enjoying a memorable conversation with a wacky, drunk but very welcoming restaurant owner.Leggi altro

  • Short trip to Myanmar

    3 febbraio 2019, Myanmar ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Short overnight to Tachileik, Myanmar, the town on the other side of the Thai border, to extend our visa. In a way it feels a bit like Thailand's Tijuana, with gambling, girls and garbage in your face much more so than in Chiang Mai. But excluding all that, we found it to be an interesting trip, the surrounding mountains were beautiful and people very friendly and welcoming, especially those working at the border control!Leggi altro

  • Beautiful temple

    3 gennaio 2019, Tailandia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Our friend Summer is now staying with us for a few weeks. We toured around the Old City and stumbled upon one of the best temples I’ve yet visited, Wat Chedi Luang. Built in the late 1300s, you can still see the elephant sculptures lining the pagoda. Along with the colorful lanterns and flags, it’s a beautiful sight.Leggi altro

  • Spontaneous Half Marathon

    23 dicembre 2018, Tailandia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

At 5pm yesterday as Lauren and I were strolling through the old city, we stumbled upon the expo for the Chiang Mai Marathon, which was happening that night at 2am (yup, you read that right). In the spirit of spontaneity while traveling, we figured what the heck, let’s sign up for the half marathon!

So a few hours later, we ran 13.1 miles under a full moon, through the streets of this amazing northern Thai city.

I haven’t run in weeks and only shorter distances, so it was a lot slow and a little painful towards the end, but an awesome experience nonetheless.

  • Elephant love

    21 dicembre 2018, Tailandia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

My friend Lauren and I spent an overnight at Elephant Land, two hours outside Chiang Mai. Our time consisted of feeding the five elephants lots of bananas, walking with them through the jungle, giving them a mud bath and rinse off in the very very cold waterfall. We spent the night in a rustic jungle hut, making friends with the Thai guides and the other fellow tourist Ahmen from Mumbai, eating a ton of curry, singing songs (Chang, the kids song about elephants) and drinking Thai home brewed rice wine. The next morning, we bushwhacked our way on a 4 mile hike through the Doi Inthonan national forest before heading back. Such a fun crazy adventure.Leggi altro

  • Well that didn't go as expected

    6 dicembre 2018, Zimbabwe ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Well our volunteer experience at Imire in Zimbabwe didn't go nearly as we had hoped. We disagree with the organization's standard of animal care - I cried or nearly cried every day we left our activities on the "reserve." Imire does a lot of good for the local community and I realize that my utopian ideals for wildlife may be somewhat unrealistic, especially given the high risk of poaching and the political and economic turmoil in Zim. There are some logical reasons for most of the treatment and some positive goals for the future, but I certainly wish the elephants, rhinos and other animals there were able to be wild and undisturbed, not locked in pens or tied up by chains.

We did meet some great people though and certainly had some fun once we were at the volunteer house, doing team building games and eating so much good food. Learning about Shona culture was wonderful and the local staff like Trymore were really wonderful.

I always hate quitting things I've committed to and certainly feel guilty given the money we spent to do this part of our trip, but staying another week was with the animal treatment, plague of bugs at night and bats with questionable diseases flying in our bedroom was just too much for us. Leaving was a hard, expensive decision that I struggled to make but in retrospect sooo thankful and happy we did.

  • Absolute Magic

    24 novembre 2018, Kenia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Absolutely amazing day in the Mara - we were watching a family of elephants when a leopard walked right in front of us, saw a sleeping pride of lions super close, enjoyed breakfast while observing the hippos in the river (Brice's dream come true!), witnessed a hyena chasing after a wildebeest during our incredible sundowner drinks in the bush. I can't get over how magical this place is. I don't ever want to leave!Leggi altro

  • Made a New Israeli Friend

    15 novembre 2018, Palestina ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

On the Jewish side of the Western Wall, men pray and offer written wishes to be placed in the cracks of the old temple's foundation. As this area is maintained by Orthodox Jews, men and women are still segregated in their prayers.

However a new section of the Western Wall has now been established for Reform Jews who choose not to segregate.

Such interesting stories and history here.

We also got approached by a Canadian-Israeli evangelical Jew. His mission is to get more people to either convert or just do more with their Jewish faith. He invited us into the nearby yeshiva to sit in on a class and see the Western Wall from above. Definitely interesting!

  • No thanks.

    28 ottobre 2018, Giordania ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

This bubble hotel seemed like a great idea. When we showed up, I kept gawking about how cool they looked, like a city on Mars or something. But in reality, not so fun when there are intense winds banging on the outside of your bubble, making you feel like you're in a constant earthquake.

Also not fun when the electricity goes out in the middle of the night, causing the entire bubble to deflate on top of you.

Even the main tent didn't hold up so well to the storm with massive rips through the siding.

Turns out this is my new fear.

  • Overnight with the Bedouins

    26 ottobre 2018, Giordania ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Amazing two nights at a Bedouin camp in the middle of the Wadi Rum desert. Over the last few years, this area has become very touristy with so many camp offerings, numerous jeeps driving visitors around, and nearly 40 people at our camp. But none of that took away from the fun or beauty there.

We got to see huge sandstone formations lined by red sand, scramble over giant rocks to see incredible views, and experience traditional Bedouin music and dancing over candle light. We even got to see the first rains in the desert after seven months.
