Wir sind zwei Nächte in Vichy geblieben. Das Wetter war gemischt – kühl, grau und eigentlich nicht kalt, aber auch nicht schön genug, um draußen zu sitzen. Heute zur Abfahrt zeigt sich die Sonne, nachdem in den letzten Tagen immer wieder Unwetter über die Gegend zogen, was man jedes Mal auf dem Wetterradar gut verfolgen konnte. Gestern waren wir in Vichy und haben uns die Stadt angeschaut. Neben der ungewöhnlichen Kathedrale Saint-Blaise mit ihrer Mischung aus Barock und Art-déco – besonders die bunten Fenster haben mir gefallen – haben wir auch die Hall des Sources besucht, wo man verschiedene der berühmten Thermalquellen probieren kann. Auch ein Spaziergang durch den Parc des Sources mit seinen eleganten Arkaden war sehr angenehm, selbst bei grauem Himmel. Die Belle-Époque-Architektur der Stadt ist wirklich beeindruckend, und man versteht schnell, warum Vichy einst ein so bedeutender Kurort war.

Zu meinem Erstaunen hat die Wohnmobilwerkstatt unseren Termin nach vorne gelegt, sodass wir schon nächsten Dienstag (in vier Tagen) in Gengenbach sein müssen. Das kam plötzlich, und obwohl ich dem telefonisch zugestimmt habe, war es nicht ganz das, was ich mir vorgestellt hatte. Eigentlich hatte ich vor, mich langsam Richtung Norden zu bewegen, ein bisschen Sonne zu suchen und spontane Stopps einzulegen – je nachdem, wo es schön ist. Einfach mal treiben lassen, nach dem Wetter und nach der Lust entscheiden. Dieses lockere Unterwegssein mag ich besonders an dieser Art zu reisen.

Jetzt bedaure ich es, nicht über Chusclan gefahren zu sein und dort Wein gekauft zu haben – mein Plan B war, in Beaune Wein zu kaufen. Beaune ist eine charmante Stadt im Herzen des Burgund, berühmt für das Hôtel-Dieu und seine kunstvoll gemusterten, bunten Schieferdächer. Die Stadt ist nicht nur für ihre Weine bekannt, sondern auch für ihre vielen kleinen Boutiquen, eleganten Geschäfte und den Wochenmarkt, auf dem sich neben Käse und Wein auch modische Kleidung und schöne Accessoires finden lassen. Ich hatte mich auf das Bummeln durch die Altstadt gefreut – aber das ist nun hinfällig, denn es ist Wochenende, und wir halten heute in Chalon-sur-Saône.

In Chalon war ich in der Vergangenheit schon öfter, damals immer auf dem städtischen Campingplatz, der in einem weitläufigen Freizeitgelände mit Spazierwegen, Radwegen und einem guten Restaurant liegt. Diesmal stehen wir auf dem Stellplatz von Camping-Car-Park, der ebenfalls günstig liegt und einen schnellen Zugang zur Altstadt ermöglicht. Chalon selbst ist eine lebendige Stadt mit einer hübschen Altstadt, Fachwerkhäusern und einer kleinen Fußgängerzone – perfekt für einen kurzen Bummel vor dem Abendessen.

Nous sommes restés deux nuits à Vichy. Le temps était mitigé – frais, gris, sans être vraiment froid, mais pas assez agréable pour s’asseoir dehors. Ce matin, au moment du départ, le soleil s’est enfin montré, après plusieurs jours d’intempéries que nous avons pu suivre en détail sur le radar météo. Hier, nous avons visité Vichy. En plus de l’étonnante cathédrale Saint-Blaise, mêlant styles baroque et art déco – j’ai particulièrement apprécié les vitraux colorés – nous avons également découvert la Halle des Sources, où l’on peut goûter plusieurs des célèbres eaux thermales. Même sous un ciel gris, se promener dans le parc des Sources, bordé de galeries élégantes, a été très agréable. L’architecture Belle Époque de la ville est impressionnante, et on comprend vite pourquoi Vichy fut un lieu de cure si prestigieux.

À ma grande surprise, l’atelier pour le camping-car a avancé notre rendez-vous, si bien que nous devons déjà être à Gengenbach mardi prochain (dans quatre jours). C’était inattendu, et même si j’ai donné mon accord au téléphone, cela ne correspondait pas à ce que j’avais imaginé. Je comptais avancer doucement vers le nord, à la recherche de quelques rayons de soleil et de haltes spontanées. J’aime ce rythme de voyage, où l’on peut se laisser porter par la météo et l’envie du moment.

Je regrette maintenant de ne pas être passée par Chusclan pour y acheter du vin – mon plan B était Beaune. Beaune est une charmante ville au cœur de la Bourgogne, célèbre pour l’Hôtel-Dieu et ses toits d’ardoise aux motifs colorés. Elle n’est pas seulement réputée pour son vin, mais aussi pour ses nombreuses petites boutiques élégantes et son marché hebdomadaire, où l’on trouve à côté du fromage et du vin aussi des vêtements tendance et de jolis accessoires. J’avais hâte de flâner dans son centre historique – mais le week-end étant là, cela tombe à l’eau. Aujourd’hui, nous faisons donc halte à Chalon-sur-Saône.

J’ai déjà séjourné à Chalon auparavant, mais toujours au camping municipal, situé dans une grande zone de loisirs avec des sentiers de promenade, des pistes cyclables et un bon restaurant. Cette fois, nous utilisons l’aire Camping-Car Park, bien placée et avec un accès rapide au centre-ville. Chalon est une ville animée avec un joli centre historique, des maisons à colombages et une petite zone piétonne – parfaite pour une petite promenade avant le dîner.

This morning, as we left, the sun finally showed itself, after several days of storms moving through the area – something we could clearly follow on the weather radar. Yesterday, we explored Vichy. Along with the unusual Saint-Blaise Cathedral, which combines baroque and art deco styles – I especially liked the colourful stained-glass windows – we also visited the Hall des Sources, where you can sample several of the town’s famous thermal waters. Even under grey skies, the Parc des Sources with its elegant arcades made for a lovely walk. The Belle Époque architecture of the town is impressive, and it’s easy to see why Vichy was once such a prestigious spa destination.

To my surprise, the motorhome workshop moved our appointment forward, so now we have to be in Gengenbach next Tuesday (in four days). That came rather suddenly, and although I agreed over the phone, it wasn’t quite what I had planned. I had hoped for a few slow days, heading north at my own pace, following the sunshine and making spontaneous stops along the way. That’s something I really appreciate about this kind of travelling.

Now I regret not taking the route through Chusclan to buy wine – plan B was to get wine in Beaune. Beaune is a charming town in the heart of Burgundy, famous for the Hôtel-Dieu and its beautifully patterned, colourful slate roofs. The town is not only known for its wine, but also for its many lovely little boutiques and its weekly market, where you can find stylish clothes and pretty accessories alongside cheese and local wines. I had looked forward to strolling through its historic centre – but now it’s the weekend, and that idea is off the table. Today, we’re stopping in Chalon-sur-Saône instead.

I’ve stayed in Chalon before, but always at the municipal campsite, located in a spacious leisure area with walking paths, bike lanes, and a good restaurant. This time, we’re using the Camping-Car Park site, which is conveniently located and gives quick access to the old town.
