    Vietri sur Mare

    Visited the first town that is the start of the Amalfi Coast- Vietri sur Mare.
    World famous for it's incredible array of ceramic art.
    Sat down in a little communal area, next to an elderly Italian gentleman, who would have been in his late 80's, early 90's.
    He suddenly started conversing with us and began to show us a photo's from an album, that he took out of his rucksack.
    We began to utilise Google translate but soon abandoned it, as we realised he didn't care if we spoke or understood Italian, he was going to tell us his life story.
    So we sat there for nearly an hour, as he showed pictures of his family (in fine wood inlay frames) and his wood craftsmanship, in particular inlay work for church lecterns.
    We laughed with him as he told us funny stories, which must have been funny as he laughed as he talked all in Italian....    Read more

    Salerno Panoramic Trip

    Panoramic scenic views from The Rock of the Lady & Amechi Castle, built 300 metres above sea level, overlooking the City of Salerno.
    Then we visit Cathedral of Santa Maria degli Angeli, San Matteo and San Gregorio VII, the main Catholic place of worship in Salerno.
    A minor basilica built between 1080 - 1085 after the conquest of the City.
    Then, a visit to Chiesa di San Giorgio - a great example of early Baroque architecture.

    An Oasis for intellectuals and artists who favoured it for vacations.
    Famed for it's brightly coloured gypsy-styled summer clothes, which are found just about everywhere in the shops of the city.
    A typical fishing village, with it's most important source of income, coming from tourism, due to it's picturesque position, and it's climate.Read more

    Departed Rome via train, which was easier than expected.
    Arrived here to 22 degrees, and a very different vibe to Rome
    Beautiful boutique hotel which was a family estate and run by the family.
    Pluses are absolutely stunning views and adorable rooms, with a bathroom almost the same size as our bedroom
    Downers are the swimming pool has been out of action for past 11 months, no restaurant onsite, though complimentary breakfast is included
    Took a walk into town down three levels of steps of about 100. Thankfully, there's an escalator that goes from the town road halfway up only due to top part of it, under repair.    Read more

    Hallo miteinander 🙋🏼‍♂️

    Eine Woche habe ich nun ausgesetzt und bin heute wieder gestartet.
    Mit neuen Schuhen.
    Mit einem anderen Zelt.
    Mit einem weniger warmen Schlafsack.
    Mit neuen Socken.
    Ohne ein t-Shirt.

    Also ne Menge Dinge die organisiert werden wollten und habe ich letztenendes alles gewogen? Nein, natürlich nicht. Vergesse ich immer. Aber es ist leicht. Sicherlich.

    Da grobe Haferflocken hier schwer zu bekommen sind, habe ich mich nun damit eingedeckt und der gewonnene gewichtsvorteil wird durch 1,5kg Müsli wohl wieder aufgefressen.

    Aus Salerno herauszukommen, war gar nicht mal so leicht. Durch die Altstadt und die engen Gassen, wo kein gps Empfang hat. Oberhalb der Stadt bin ich dann auf die Variante des Si. welche einen Bogen bis zum Kapp bei sorrento macht. Hab ja schon öfter berichtet dass der Si nicht gepflegt wird. Ratet mal wie es mit der Variante ist?

    Heute musste ich auf allen Vieren unter Dornen verkriechen. Habe versucht alles mit den Stöcken klein zu schlagen, oder drum herum zu kommen, nichts hat geklappt. Also Rucksack ab und über den Boden robben.
    Umdrehen war danach dann erst recht keine Option mehr, aber ich musste auch schon zuvor sehr kämpfen und zurück hätte bedeutet durch alles nochmal durch und bergauf und eine alternative Route gabs nicht. Der Weg wie er auch in der offiziellen Si. App steht, den gibt es nicht. Da war nichts. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Erschwerend kam heute noch hinzu, dass ich völlig übermüdet war. Die letzten zwei Nächte hatte ich qualitativ und auch quantitativ schlechten Schlaf.
    Hab mir zwei engiedrinks gegönnt. Wenn die eiskalt sind, geht das. Ähnlich wie bei nicht so guten Bier. Aber warm ist die süße plörre eine Zumutung. Ob es einen Effekt hatte!? Tja keine Ahnung. Aber es waren nun letztendlich 37 km und ich hatte gedacht dass ich bis zu der Stelle wo ich jetzt bin, nur 28 km machen muss. 😄

    Habe nun die Hunde gefüttert und liege im Zelt. Im netzzelt wohlbemerkt. Es ist sehr sehr warm und schwitzig. Gute Wahl mit dem leichteren Schlafsack und auch dem netzzelt.    Read more

    We left Porto Miseno in the smog and haze keeping watch for the many ferries coming and going from various islands and Naples. We could hardly see across the Bay. As we got closer to Capri and the Amalfi coast the sea traffic increased considerably with tour boats, private power boats, fishing boats, ferries, a cruise ship and a freighter. We had to take evasive action numerous times to avoid near collisions. The power boats come so fast towards / behind you and they don't change course until the last moment or until we've slowed and turned and then we're subjected to their heavy waves and engine wash. So much for courtesy and who has the right of way!🤯 If anyone has seen the movie 'Bowfinger', we felt like Eddie Murphy's character crossing the freeway!😲🥺😤🤯
    The Amalfi coast is beautiful with spectacular hotels on high cliffs with winding paths to the sea. I wouldn't want to get to the bottom and realize I'd forgotten my sunscreen! Bob says at those 5🌟hotels, it would be delivered on a silver platter. Very different from our 1/2 🌟 ship! 🤣
    We cruised into Amalfi but carried on to Salerno as there wasn't a suitable anchorage. We anchored behind the cruise ship port off the beach and main street with palm trees, lovely buildings and a castle on the mountain above. Once the tour boats stopped for the night, it was calm.     Having left Pompeii we had to come to Salerno to change trains for Rome. We decided to break the journey and have a wander, and it was really worth it. A lovely place with history, a harbour, a Cathederal with a Pope interned in it, good food and friendly people. Well worth a visit.Read more

    Ce matin, on prend un bus à 8h35 pour aller à Salerne. Le choix a été compliqué. Mon programme initial était d’aller en Calabre mais il n’y a pas beaucoup de transports en commun, surtout qu’on part déjà d’une ville un peu « perdue ». Après moult recherches et hésitations, nous allons finalement découvrir la côte amalfitaine.
    On rechange de bus comme à l’aller, sur un parking et on arrive à destination un peu avant midi. On va à l’auberge poser nos sacs et on repart manger dans un restaurant de wok. Beaucoup de choses étaient fermées et on avait un peu envie de changer.
    On se balade sur la promenade le long de la mer. Ma première impression de la ville était : « on dirait un peu Nice », du fait de ses immeubles colorés construits le long d’une promenade au bord de la mer. Nice reste cependant biennnnn plus jolie, que ça soit la ville en elle-même ou la prom’.
    On passe dans le parc de la ville, on se balade dans les rues, ou plutôt « la » rue. En effet, il y a une rue principale parallèle à la mer où tous les commerces et donc les gens sont concentrés. Ailleurs il n’y a pas grand chose à voir. On visite « El Duomo » (la cathédrale de Salerne), sa crypte et l’Église San Giorgio. L’intérieur de édifices est très impressionnant, il y a beaucoup d’informations mais tout est en harmonie, c’est très joli et pas commun.
    On monte ensuite au château. On y arrive vers 16h30, pile pour le coucher du soleil. Et oui on a changé d’heure, ici le soleil se couche à 17h.😭 On a une super vue, les couleurs sont jolies, ça rattrape le fait que je ne trouve pas la ville très belle. Une fois le soleil couché, on redescend prendre une douche à l’auberge, on fignole le programme de demain, on ressort faire des courses et on passe la soirée à l’auberge.    Read more

    Caprese

    Als wir am Tag zuvor, an einem schönen Plätzchen, die Nacht einläuten wollten, fuhr uns ein italienisches Auto entgegen und bat uns weg zu fahren da es sein Platz sei. Schnell und anständig fuhren wir auf die Seite, doch der Mann zeigte energisch und gleichzeitig freundlich neben sich und meinte, wir sollen ruhig wieder neben ihn hin. Das einzige andere Auto, welches sich auch noch auf dem kleinen Platz befand, sah aus als wäre es schon länger nicht mehr bewegt worden. Pflanzen wuchsen durch den vorderen Teil und innendrinn lagen viele vergilbte Zettel. Es war offensichtlich ein kleiner Kühlwagen (Nina machte sich schon anderweitig Gedanken, was da alles drinn sein mochte - verwarf jedoch schnell das Gedankenspiel um später ruhig schlafen zu können).
    Neben eben diesem Fahrzeug parkierte nun der Mann. Es war schon dunkel und er hantierte mit der Taschenlampe und zeigte immer wieder auf uns, dass wir schon da neben ihm stehen könnten. Schlussendlich fragte er Nina irgendwas auf Italienisch, was sie nicht verstand und sie nickte und lächelte. Gleich darauf drückte er ihr ein Päckchen mit feinstem Mozzarella in die Hand.

    Ganz verblüfft und dankend standen wir da und er fuhr wieder davon.
    Das kleine Rätsel des anderen Autos war gelöst und dank dieses netten Mannes assen wir einen sehr leckeren Caprese mit feinstem Büffel Mozzarella.    Read more

    Salerno bei Dauerregen

    60. Reisetag:
    Heute das erste Mal tagsüber heftiger Regen auf unserer Tour. Was macht man dann auf einem Campingplatz in der Nachsaison?
    Mit dem Bus die 13km bis nach Salerno zum Bummeln.
    Völlig durchnässt zum Pizza Essen 👍,
    ab 14:00 den Pfützen bei trockenem Wetter an der Promenade ausgewichen und die gute Busbeschilderung genutzt um den Bus um 16:00 zurück zu nehmen, grundsätzlich den Bus per Handzeichen zum Stop auffordern, sonst fährt er vorbei 😆.
    Geruhsamer Ausklang bei 20°C im WoMo.
    Planung für morgen entscheidet sich wettertechnisch.....vielleicht doch die Amalfiküste???    Read more
