    Kulju

    July 5 in Finland ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

Our trip to Finland was arranged a while ago and a little differently to the previous countries. Agi, Flora and us visited Agi's old friend from her teenagehood and stayed with them for some real Finnish experience in their holiday cottage in Kulju, a tiny little village 25 minutes from Tampere.
Finland is the country of thousand lakes and many if not most families have a summerhouse. The weather was rather rainy and cold but we enjoyed some typical Finnish sauna time every day in their private homemade sauna just a few steps from the house (all made out of wood). Sauna is not only for pleasure but also the only way to wash as no bathroom is available, only a "toilet" in the woods. Once we even went in the cold lake after being properly warmed up by the 80° sauna which is the real way to do this experience. Other times we enjoyed the fireplace in the cottage while playing boardgames and having typical gin and grapefruit drinks.
One day the sun came out and we could row a boat all around the lake and cook sausages on the barbeque outside in the evening.
The midsummer night was just a couple of weeks before our visit so it was light pretty much all night which was so weird and confusing, the first time we expereinced anything like this.
It was an extremely unique, relaxing and typically Finnish few days which we are so grateful that we could experience. Thank you Kaija, Lisa, Petri and Varpu!

    Tampere

    July 7 in Finland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

At two different times we made our way from Kulju to Tampere, the second biggest city of Finland. It is built on a strech of land between two big lakes which has a tower on the highest point with great views to the city and some walking paths around. There we had some coffee and local doughnuts. We also walked around the city and were introduced to many places and interesting information by our hosts. Tampere is an old industrial city and nowadays a lot of the old factories beside the river have been repurposed as museums, restaurants, bars and other things. We saw quite a few nice places so sit outside for a drink but at €7 for a beer they were a bit outside our budget! The one and only moomin museum can also be found here which we read and watched as children many times.Read more

    Tampere - day 3

    August 12 in Finland ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

A little over 2 hours by train and you'll find yourself in Tampere, a nice city (with a lot of construction on the main road now, haha) surrounded by lakes. It has a few nice spots and viewingpoints, but the surroundings are much more impressive as we'll discover tomorrow :)!

    Tampere - day 4

    August 13 in Finland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

When in Finland, you can't not visit a lake, it's actually really difficult as well considering there are approximately 187,888 lakes in the country.

This one is around half an hour from the center of Tampere and is great to go to for a couple of hours. Easy to walk around the entire lake, with great spots for pictures and a picnic.

    Next stop, Kuopio!

    Tankavaara

    June 22 in Finland ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

    Eternity

    September 4 in Finland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

    Eternity...
Let me marry you and cherish in my arms -
There is no human being that would take my hand.
I'll wrap you in the oaths, enclose in the charms,
We'll live in meadows of no-pain-no-sorrow land.
I'll leave the trace in soul that no comet leaves
On blackish sky, changing the way the planets move...
It's far away from lies, mistreatment, disbeliefs
We'll listen brooks singing in shallow grooves.
No tears - do you hear me? If no, I'll whisper it again
You have lost nothing, but you will only gain...

    No People, No...

    September 5 in Finland ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

The chances to meet Finnish people on the street in Finland are almost the same to meeting wolves, let's say, in Qatar... Saying Hi to passerbies has no effect, in rare cases some people might give you a wry look though. But anyways, it helps to have the entire place to yourself and get such pictures without people silhouettes😂Read more

    Walking Dead

    September 5 in Finland ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

It was rather shocking to see this painting in the cathedral, next to the altar... It gave me another thought, not new though, about religion and faith and how distant they are from each other. How can you be afraid of the God that lives in your heart, the Universe and Oneness whose part you are yourself. MehRead more
