    Home exchange, house #1

    July 30, 2016 in France

Aaaand we finally made it to France and our very first home exchange in Annecy! First impression overrulled all the fears and not even our expectations can do it justice. The house is stunning and located very close to the center. No need to mention that Thor loves the garden. First night is behind us and we feel great. Our host even left us some home made jam for the breakfast. Superb.

    Annecy

    July 30, 2016 in France

It seems like we found another romantic city 😍 And this is only the beginning! Canals are especially beautiful at night, with all the lights and the swans swimming around (I know, right!). Annecy seems small because the feeling is so cosy, but it's actually pretty big, as we learned today when so many people came to hang out by the lake and in the park (probably because it's the weekend). There are a lot of boats on the lake which is pretty long. Definitely a must see for anybody passing this area. It would be a shame to miss 'Venice of the France'.Read more

    Coming to Annecy

    April 13, 2015 in France

We got our first look at snow on the mountains! It is warm weather though, about 26deg, so I don't know if we will play in snow. It's a different city with old and new parts and little rivers going through it. Our apartment is small and funny, we feel like we are sleeping in the roof! We are planning lots of adventures in the next few days.

    27 Avenue de Loverchy

    April 14, 2015 in France

Our apartment is across from a big old cemetery. I liked the big interesting monuments but mostly loved the soldier memorials and got mum to read me some of the names. It's not good to go into a real battle. Here is also a picture of our apartment building and a friendly man at the market.

    Palais de l'Isle- the jail!

    April 15, 2015 in France

There was a really old jail built on a tiny island in the river in the 1100's, I guess lot of people couldn't swim back then. It was also used as a mint for making coins- it looked like a kitchen with big cooking pots! And then it was also an important government office and law court. We liked exploring the rooms and stairs but the prison beds weren't very comfortable!

    Exploring Old Annecy

    April 14, 2015 in France

We went to the old village on the river, and some houses had doorways right in the water. You would definitely need a boat! There were lots of little bridges and markets too. We tried lots of cheeses, olives, nougat and meats.

Start of a busy day in Annecy

    April 15, 2015 in France

We walked through old Annecy and found a beautiful big park. It was a warm day and people were sunbaking! The mountains looked beautiful. We went on a carousel in the park. You can go in paddle boats from the lake beach or ride in a tourist train along the lake's edge. We booked tickets for a boat ride.

    Goodbye to Annecy

    April 17, 2015 in France

We really enjoyed our 4 days in Annecy, it was a lovely town and a good base for adventures in surrounding areas of France and Switzerland. Here are a few more pictures from our time on the lake, the town and at the jail.

    Lac d'Annecy

    April 15, 2015 in France

We went on a boat around the big lake. Our boat was called Le Cygne, which means "swan". There are a few swans around, which is cool because we don't see many birds in French towns. Anyway, Lake Annecy is really big and gives the city its water supply. We saw beautiful mountains, villages, paragliders, and some castles. Most of the castles are still just homes for families who have been there for ages. It was a warm sunny day and felt great!Read more

    French Alps - Annecy

    April 21, 2016 in France

Today was spent walking around Annecy, a romantic alpine town in the French Alps with canals winding through old buildings. The water is crystal clear. We weren't so lucky with the weather today. This didn't stop the locals from taking their daily walks around Lake Annecy. We followed suit.

The French love their dogs. Everywhere we go, we see them walking their dogs, even in the city. Apart from the crazy French driver that went ballistic when we nearly took his car out in the mountains, everyone else seems so laid-back. There is no rush. Life moves as fast as their little French bulldog and they seem to be more than content with it. A worthy lesson to learn, we think.

And then there was that witching hour again where Flora hears nothing but the rumbling of her stomach. We headed down a cobbled path to find some food. In order to keep our budget down, we avoid the expensive restaurants and cafes and frequent boulangeries for yummy baguettes. This time, however, Aaron decided he'd get a burger from a street stall, chock full of french fries.

We find a nice spot in the park adjacent to Lake Annecy to enjoy our lunch and the stunning view of the Alps.
