Montmédy, next to La CitadelJuly 6, 2016 in France

The huge walls of the citadel, entered into via a drawbridge over a dry moat, contain a small village and a church with beautiful stained glass.
Our neighbours tonight are people working at the gîte and a man in a van travelling with a cat; Catman, naturally :)
The most dominant noise is that of squealing swifts circling in front of the citadel. Tall grasses and wildflowers grow on the banks and the sun is setting gently over the horizon as I write.
The sat nav broke on the way here but Vicky had downloaded all the European Google maps on to her phone so we were able to navigate ok and it is difficult to be too stressed with these surroundings.Read more
