      Afraid of Stardust?

      November 19, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

The exhibition shows the constant oscillation between positions, categories, and identities, and how entrenched binary systems can be replaced by ambivalence and openness.

I loved Leigh Bowery video! I interpret this as a protest against the boxes that society likes 💛💚💙💜🩷🧡♥️

That brings my last full week, Week 11, to an end! 👣 104,067.

    • Day 8

      Nuremberg

      December 12, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

Today we had a relaxing morning then went to spy on the Nuremberg Christmas market. I was really looking forward to this one as it said online it was one of the oldest and most famous markets! So we went to spy and…it was fine. A bit disappointing as it was like a ton of repeating stalls. There were tons of lebkuchen strand and other decorations that all had the same things. I was especially disappointed in the food options - even for non-vegan there weren’t many. You had the lebkuchen, but for hot food you had sausages and fish sandwiches and there was like one other stand with veggie sandwiches and that was it. I really expected more especially since smaller markets had way more variety! This is one I would not come back to as there was nothing special. We still had fun of course, but it was disappointing.

We did get bibimbap for lunch and some tteokbokki - rice cakes in a sweet spicy sauce. I had never had them before and they were so good! It all was!

Then this afternoon at walked around the outside of the city following the city wall which was nice. It goes most of the way around - there was just one section that was missing. Then back to wander through town to see the lights and it was not as nice as the other places we have been to! Oh well now we know. It was still a fun day!

      Rustdag tussen Neurenberg en Klagenfurt

      August 25, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

      Erfurt

      December 12, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

Today we headed on to Erfurt - Our favorite Christmas market from last year! Really I was wondering if it would still be as magical since it snowed the whole time we were here last year and snow makes everything magical, but it still was! Even without snow! The town is just really fun to wander around and the markets are so pretty and we love it! Like this is a place I would come back to without the Christmas magic and still enjoy it. We are staying downtown by the markets which is great and we had a nice wander with some treats when we got here - fresh hot soft pretzel! Yum!

Last time we were here the cathedral was closed so we spied inside since it was open. We wandered all around and then took a break to warm up and went out after dark and it was freezing! Well below freezing again and so cold so tomorrow we will have to bring some hot beverages with us on our wanders!

      A Week in Nuremberg

      January 14, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 32 °F

Arrived in Nuremberg, checked into the Karl August Hotel and walked to an amazing Italian restaurant for dinner. After dinner we came back to the hotel and went to the Sauna for a bit.

Day 2- Klaus worked today and I was lazy and relaxed. I finally got moving and had dinner at a cute wine bar. When Klaus got back to the hotel we went to a cute bar and had a glass of wine, a Sarti Spritz (It’s a take on an aperol but with a liquor called Sarti) and a cheese plate with the most delicious fig and horseradish jelly. Off to bed, Klaus has an early morning.

Day3- Klaus went to work for the day, I froze my butt off and walked around. Klaus got back and we had dinner at an Indian restaurant, not normally something we would choose but the food was great!

Day 4- Klaus was up early again for work and I was slow to get moving 😂😂. Once again I walked around the charming town freezing my butt off with the rain snow mix. Did a little shopping and met Klaus back at the hotel. Tonight we walked to greek restaurant with once again amazing food. Unfortunately we ordered a grilled platter and I was unaware that the entire thing was pork 😂😂😂😂 needless to say they were quick to remedy the situation and got me a plate of grilled lamb so yummy!!!! Ended the evening at the hotel bar with an aperol and espresso martini.

Day 5- We woke up and were supposed to drive to Stuttgart then Munich but Klaus is sick again with the never ending cough. Grabbed some cough drops, a cappuccino and a cake called bienenstich. (one of his grandmas favorites) 🍰 We drove to Munich did a little shopping and ended up at the doctors hoping to get medicine to control the cough on the 12 hour flight tomorrow. Checked into the Hilton at the Airport grabbed a little dinner and rearranged the suitcases, we will only be taking carry-ons for the Asia trip. The larger suitcases will be stored at the airport until we return for our flight home to USA. Super excited to ditch the cold, bring on the heat and sunshine. ☀️

Day 6- I unfortunately have the cough also. 😞😞 Barely slept, loaded up on medicine and made it to the lounge for a mimosa before our flight. ✈️

      Home Again

      June 1, 2024 in Germany ⋅ 🌩️ 16 °C

Phew! We finally made it home. That drive was long and stressful and not that much fun, though we did get luckier than we could have with it. Starting out in Croatia was sunny and beautiful, then we got into some spooky clouds which were fun, and then all the rain. So much rain. There were times I thought we were going to have to pull over at the next exit and wait for it to let up as it was raining so hard. So much water on the road at times too so it was slow going for most of the way. That and there was a lot of traffic through Austria so it all was a lot. There was one point where google said there was a backup of an hour because of an accident at a construction zone, but we could get off the freeway and go around it through the small towns and save some time so we decided to do that. I think a lot of people did and we got to a roundabout where the first exit road went to an entrance to the freeway where the traffic was really bad and the second continued on. We of course were going to go with the second exit, but some guy was standing in the rain making most of the cars go to the freeway exit road (not sure who he was or why), and we had to as well. But there was a gas station or something on the corner behind him between the two roads so I pulled in there and went out on the roundabout behind him and we went on our way. I really don't know why other people didn't do that, but they all just listened to him and went and sat in traffic.

I was thinking before this that we do a lot of driving here and I have never actually driven past a car accident. I know they happen, but I just have never seen one, but yesterday there were quite a few. I think a lot of people were not driving for the weather and disregarding the speed limits they had posted which were quite slow, but for a reason. We were lucky as we passed a lot of areas going the other way where the traffic was backed up and not moving forever, over 5km each time, but we didn't have anything like that (or maybe the bit we went around way). The radio said the one section going the other way that we had passed earlier you should expect a 3 hour delay! 3 hours! I was like if we were there that would be stop and continue on tomorrow kind of delay. I cannot imagine sitting there for that long.

We were going to stop in Munich to get dinner at this Afghan restaurant that is amazing, but with the weather and all the severe weather/flood warnings in the area we decided it would be best to just continue on to where we were staying. It was a long day already and we didn't really feel like walking around in the cold and pouring rain (it was pretty cold all day too. Whenever we took a quick break we had to bundle up). We got into southern Nuremberg where we were staying after just over 10 hours of driving what should have been maybe 9 hours, so not that bad (it said it was an 8 hour drive, but with breaks that adds time), but it felt like so much longer. We had some food and then went for a walk in the area since it wasn't raining and found this pretty nice park. They had all these play areas that were like those courses in trees where you walk along unstable things - I don't know what they are called, but it was pretty nice. There were some for smaller kids up to really difficult ones that I don't even know that I could do them! And we found a few other fun things on our wanders.

Today we headed off and it was more pouring rain! All the rain! There was a lot of flooding just south of us and the freeway we took the day prior from Munich was closed because of it. So I was glad we stopped as far north as we did! Then when we finally made it to Berlin we got here just as the cops were closing off the freeways we needed to get home, no clue why as we couldn't find anything online, but luckily it only added about a half hour to our travel time (I imagine if we had been later the traffic would have been much worse!). And it was sunny and gorgeous when we got home so that was nice.

So that was our trip. I really enjoyed it, even though getting home was kind of a mess. The water was gorgeous, we both agreed we loved Dubrovnik and Makarska area the most, and Baska in the north was also really nice (though the beach was already way too busy). Overall it wasn't as warm as I thought it would be, which is good for me, but then we didn't swim as much because I freeze (though still tried to swim for a little bit every day!). We had some really good food, the scenery was great, and we enjoyed exploring all the things.
