Jour 13: last day à Patmos

Après un petit déjeuner, on se dirige vers le sud de l’île pour visiter un petit village qu’on n’avait pas encore vu la veille. Il y a une plage qui s’appelle la petra beach.
Fred veut s’y baigner car il y a un petit îlot à quelques centaines de mètres et il veut nager jusqu’à là-bas.

Je l’attends pour ma part à l’ombre et ensuite on décolle pour la plage de Vagia, la plus jolie où on était la veille.

Pour sortir de la Pétra beach, il faut prendre un chemin en montée très pentue. Bien-sûr, on fait du sur place à un moment, le moment idéal pour un serpent plus long que la largeur de la route sorte pour dire bonjour.
Vu mon agitation, Fred a démarré la moto par miracle. Je suis bien content de l’avoir vu le dernier jour et non le premier…

On va voir un village au nord de la ville qu’on n’avait pas vu. Fred fait ses photos tel un reporteur pour Ushuaia TV 📺.

On décolle pour le Vagia Café histoire de manger leurs taboulés et leurs tartes. Fred prend une corne de gazelle en dessert et j’opte pour un genre de cheesecake qui est bon.
On retourne ensuite à la plage et on croise le chat qui ne nous calcule pas aujourd’hui.

Pour le soir, on rentre faire nos enregistrements et on va boire un coup. On va dans un restaurant avec 60 minutes d’attente. On laisse tombé, il est déjà 21h30. On trouve une taverne. Fred prend un poisson grillé pour ne pas changer et moi du poulpe. On prend aussi des galettes de courgettes et de tomates. Un chat vient manger avec nous. On traine dans la ville et on rentre car demain c’est le retour. On va prendre un bateau et deux avions pour rentrer sur Marseille.

Test Scubajet

Heute sind wir in der Bucht von Patmos geblieben. Es stand nichts Besonderes auf dem Programm. Doris hat am Vormittag eine Shoppingtour unternommen, und ich habe mich endlich mal unserem ScubaJet gewidmet, einem Unterwasserantrieb für Taucher. Diesen haben wir auf der Boot in Düsseldorf gekauft, und er wollte endlich mal getestet werden. Nach dem Zusammenbau benötigten erst einmal die Akkus Futter…. Während dieser Zeit kümmerte ich mich um unseren neuen Tauchkompressor, denn auch dieser soll nun langsam zum Einsatz kommen.
Nachdem ich Doris vom Einkauf abgeholt hatte, ging es gleich ans Testen des Wasserantriebs. Was soll ich sagen, dass Ding ist Spitze!! Schon bei 50% macht es richtig Schub, so dass man sich schon richtig festhalten muss. Ein beruhigendes Gefühl, wenn man mal beim Tauchen in eine Gegenströmung kommt.
Abends ging es noch mal Shoppen. Ich bekam eine schöne kurze rote Hose mit Hemd, und zum Abschluss ging es in ein Fischrestaurant. Im touristischer angehauchten Patmos sind hier die Preise beim Essen schon deutlich angezogen, und der sonst oft gratis spendierte Digestif war hier unbekannt.Read more

Tours of Patmos

Today was a short touring day. We got on the tender at around 8:15 am for a short ride over to the port town of Skala. There we meet our guide, Nikos, and boarded our bus for the drive to the Monastery of St. John in the town of Chora, the capital of Patmos. We were able to see a bit of the Monastery. On the first floor was the chapter. We could see the Markets and a bit of the sanctuary. There was also a case that contained the chains that John wore while a prisoner on Pathos. The case also contained the skull of St. Thomas and also the skull of John Christodoulous (the man who completed most of the monastery). St. John is buried at Ephesus (another reason to be safe that we couldn't go too Ephesus). On the second floor were some ancient Bibles; some icons; some priests' robes and the contract the king wrote up of all the support he, the king, would provide.

After the Monastery your, we headed for Cave of the Apocalypse. Although small it was impressive it. A church has been erected around the caves.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take any pictures at either site. We were taken back to Skala to either head back to the ship or to look around in the town. John and I decided to walk around the town. We had been encouraged to try the two traditional foods of Greece (or Patmos) - Cheese pie and pungi (sp?) that had been recommended by Nikos. Pungi is a sweet pastry. John wasn't interested in either of the suggestions, so we searched around for lunch for him. We eventually found an uncrowded restaurant where John got a macaroni pie and I got a salad. When John had finished his lunch, we went back to a look for a shop that sold cheese pie and the pungi. The pungi was pretty good, but the cheese pie was pretty dry. We wandered around a bit and bought some gelato. It was pretty good. Then we headed back to the ship. We walked around the ship several times and then got ready for the "port talk" about the tour to Mykonos and Delos. We then headed to dinner. I had salmon and John had rack of lamb. Both were excellent.
