      Dingle Day 2

      July 16, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

Day 2 was pretty relaxed, well, after the awesome boat ride!
Cory made is breakfast before our trip. Delish as always. The breakfast sausage has a different flavor and texture. Cory doesn't care for it, but Mom and I do. I would describe it as soft and slightly mushy.
After we got back, we made our way back to The Captain's House for lunch. We dined like kings and queens on prosciutto, salami, local cheese, chips, hummus, bread and butter. Have I mentioned how much we love the butter here?
Soon after we all started feeling our eyes get heavy, so we napped. Yep. We napped in Ireland. No regrets. After waking up refreshed, we got dolled up for our early dinner at Out of the Blue.
After dinner, Mom and I were craving an Irish Coffee. Since the big match between Kerry and Derry was on, each pub was so packed, you couldn't walk in. So Cory settled for a local cone from Murphy's Ice Cream. He said it's as good as Tillamook!
Then the match ended and we got into Foxy John's for that Irish Coffee. So dang good!
Then we walked to O'Sullivans because Hannah (my sister-in-law) let us know her dad is friends with the owner and that we should pop in and name drop. Well, we asked and the lad at the pub informed us that we missed Tommy, he left for a tour in the US and would be gone for a month. Damn. Then the lad said, oh too bad you weren't here last night when he played. Ha! Good luck on us as we were sitting first row and enjoyed his talents for about an hour. We even put a 5 Euro in the jar. He smiled and said thank you.
We were tuckered out, even after our nap, and decided to head home. We walked down an alley and enjoyed the cool murals along the way.
We sat around, played 31 and some Rummy, chatted with Aunt Carre, and ended the night with great conversation.
      We walked 8,335 steps.
      5 star day!

      A quick dash to Dingle

      June 1, 2021 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Eight days out and the beginning of a new month with hopefully better weather. Ha! Dream on.

I woke up after a medical procedure and having been tested positive for covid.
When I woke up a second time I was cured!
Luckily it was only a dream. I normally don’t remember my dreams but this one I did.

It had started raining last night and was still raining this morning but the wind had gone.
After breakfast Brian did a run up town while I visited the O’Meara’s to discuss plans.

We decided to continue onto Dingle as the forecast for the next few days was not great and we’d prefer to be stuck in Dingle with its better facilities than here in Knightstown.
We motored the whole way across the bay as it was wet, cold and there was a stiff breeze on the nose. We just wanted to get there and tie up.

Unfortunally Fungie was gone so we had no welcome, didn’t hang about and went straight to the marina and tied up at 15.00.

We had a brief chat with Peter, the Marina Superintendent, got hooked up to power and turned on the heating to warm ourselves. I did say it was June and not November?

Brian and I went up the town for a walk and later Jim & Angela joined us.
On the way back, Jim & Brian went into a chipper and ordered dinner while Angela and went directly back to the boats to get the tables ready.
Can't remember what we had but it involved some type of fish and was delicious.

We had the heating on all evening and after watching some tv we headed to bed knowing that we are not going anywhere tomorrow.
Today is Tuesday and it looks like we won't be leaving till Friday so we just have to chill out.
The one great thing about retirement is that I have plenty of time.

      Rain, Rain and more Rain.

      June 2, 2021 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

I didn't get up until I heard Brian moving around.
Bad weather just makes me feel like staying in my cabin and hibernating.
Brian is the opposite and nothing ever seems to get him down for long.
The wind is not too strong today but it's dull and overcast and that's just when it's not raining.

A low has come in and is staying put for a while. Usually these come in the front door i.e. the south west and leave quickly by the back door, towards Scotland but this one is not playing by the rules.

Brian made breakfast which was a good start and we headed up the town.
He made me get a haircut, he has standards! Glad Maeve won't see it until Sligo. She doesn't like it too short.

Brian used to work as a record wholesaler and he met and had a good chat with one of his old customers who works in the smallest record shop in Ireland. Well, that's what the sign says anyway.

It is dry at times but we never can go into town and back again without having some rain along the way.
However that didn't stop the four of us getting some takeaway pints
We headed back to Eureka for lunch and I did some maintenance on the engine before we went back into the town and got pizzas which we brought back to the boat and settled in for the night with a bit of tv before putting our heads down.

      Maybe Tomorrow?

      June 3, 2021 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep so picked up my book and finished it before going back to sleep.
The wind had been straightening but it was nice and calm inside the breakwater.

I was still in bed checking the various forecasts when Brian handed me a glass of orange juice. The man's a treasure.

We had our crew meeting on Second Chance and it was looking hopeful that the wind was going to drop tomorrow morning. All going well we decided we'd head for Smerwick Harbour for an overnight anchorage and head off for Inishmore early Saturday morning.

Later I borrowed the trolley after Jim had finished with it and brought my jerry cans to the petrol station and filled the fuel tank. I expect there will be very little chance to fill up on the west coast.

Brian went uptown to collect our laundry and we both did a few boat jobs and made ready to leave tomorrow if all goes well.

We met for drinks and passage planning before heading uptown again to provision and got diner on the way back.
A dvd put Brian asleep half ways through but I foolishly stayed till the end.

      Wind not doing as forecast

      June 4, 2021 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Woke up to hear the wind in the rigging. Don't think we're going anywhere today.
We're due to have our planning meeting at 11.15 but I already know the outcome. However there are blue patches in the sky so things are still looking better.
At our meeting we decide if the wind goes down early enough, we'll leave for Smerwick tonight otherwise we'll leave for Inishmore at first light tomorrow.

We met Jim & Angela at 15.15 and decided to wait till tomorrow.

Brian and I had had showers after our dinner and we had an early night ready for dawn.
