      Bari

      April 15 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

      Nächster Stopp ist in Bari. Wir fahren erstmal an den Strand - Pane e Pomodoro. Obwohl es bewölkt ist, ist es sehr warm. Wir legen uns an den Strand, dösen, lesen und gehen schwimmen.

      Später spazieren wir noch durch die Stadt - wo überraschenderweise kaum etwas los ist. Auch viele Restaurants haben geschlossen. Wir spazieren durch die engen Gassen. Es gibt eine eigene Nudelstraße ,Strada delle Orecchiette‘ in der man den Leuten zuschauen kann, wie sie Nudeln machen.

      Zum Schlafen fahren wir an den 2. Strand von Bari - Lido San Francesco. Beide Strände sind leider etwas belagert von Algen.

      Der Tag sollte ja heute eigentlich ausfallen...aber der Kapitän hatte kein Erbarmen und hat im nächsten Hafen halt gemacht. Bari eine sehr alte und doch typische italienische Stadt...mit vielen kleinen Gassen, wo die alten Mütterchen vor ihren Häusern sitzen und erzählen und über ihnen die Wäsche baumelt...mit vielen kleinen Cafes und schönen Kramläden.
      Ach ja....ich wurde heute mit Käffchen am Bett und tollen Geschenken geweckt...ein Blick in den Spiegel hat mir gezeigt ...ich sehe nicht anders aus als gestern...also kann die 0 am Ende nicht so schlimm sein😂
      Heute Abend freue ich mich auf ein tolles Abendessen mit meinen Lieben und dann ab zur Dirty Dancing Poolparty...🥳💃🥂      Read more

      Im Bulli übers Meer

      Camping Überfahrt auf dem Truck-Deck der Nachtfähre von Bari nach Patras. Bruno hat noch den letzten Busch vor der AIDA genutzt. Morgen Mittag sind wir dann in Griechenland.

      von Kiato nach Patra und Bari in Italien

      Nachdem wir alles gepackt hatten, fuhr uns der Ferienwohnungbesitzer zum Bahnhof. Dort wollten wir den 12 Uhr Bus nehmen. Doch da alle Plätze dort schon verkauft gewesen waren, konnten wir erst den Bus um 14 Uhr nehmen. Die Zeit bis 14 Uhr verbrachten wir mit Picknick kaufen und essen.
      Um 15.20 erreichten wir Patra. Ich hatte die Aufgabe den Hafen und die genaue Abfahrtstelle zu finden. Doch obwohl ich Fähre eingab, schickte mich Googlemaps zu einem Büro am Meer. Dort erfuhr ich, dass der Hafen 4 km entfernt war, zu weit für uns bei 33 Grad im Schatten. Und durch die Ufzgi von Eva und Aline haben wir auch recht mehr Gepäck, 2 A4-Taschen voll und einen Laptop. Ausserdem ist bei unserem kleinen Koffer die Halterung abgebrochen. Aline schiebt ihn nun, da sie am Kleinsten ist mit 150cm. So erreichten wir den Hafen per Taxi. Unsere Fähre war bereits da, und wir suchten und fanden unsere Kabine. Die zwei oberen Betten lassen sich herunterklappen wie im Nachtzug, sind aber breiter wie dort. Wir setzten uns an einen Tisch Nahe dem Meer und sahen ein paar Delfine springen. Darüber freuten wir uns sehr. Nun ist eine schöne Stimmung, es ist am Eindunkeln, wir sehen ein Lastschiff und eine hügelige Insel.      Read more

      Kräutertee

      Graiß Gott beinand, sche dasst's wieda ds seits. Oiso nacha, schauma amoi wos so passiert is.

      Die neun Stunden Überfahrt mit der Fähre nach Griechenland waren eigentlich recht angenehm. Über Nacht kann (könnte) man sich gleich ausruhen, falls der Schiffsmotor rund laufen würde - grrr.

      Aber es war sehr sauber und es gab am Morgen frische und leckere Schoko-Croissants und Kaffee.
      Bezüglich Sauberkeit und auch speziell Freundlichkeit des Personals hatte ich im Vorfeld was anderes gelesen. Hat aber gepasst.

      Immerhin hat der Abend an Deck länger gedauert, zusammen mit Helge (Motoradnarr, diesmal das erste Mal mit dem Auto unterwegs; hat es bereut, als wir uns über meine Tour unterhielten) aus Aachen mit seiner Hellen, die er den eigenen Angaben nach selbst aus China "importiert" hat.
      Dafür hatte er aber dann eh einen bösen Blick vin ihr geerntet...

      Eine Morgenstimmung wie heute in Griechenland ist schon gewaltig. Die Fotos sprechen für sich.

      Toll ist der Duft in der griechischen Luft. Ständig hat es gut nach würzigem Kräutertee gerochen.
      Ob das den Einheimischen noch auffällt?

      Gut ist, dass man dank Navi die Wegweiser nicht lesen braucht. Das wäre eine echte Herausforderung. Herr lass Hellas vom Himmel fallen 🤣

      Nach einem sehr anspruchsvollen Stück Gelände, wo ich mir unter anderem mit einer Palette aus Holz eine Brücke bauen musste (um nicht rechts im Abgrund oder links im Schlamm zu landen), bin in einem Dorf in den Bergen gelandet.

      Witzige Sachen passieren: Suche nach einem Lokal, weil ich hunger habe. Gesucht, gefunden.
      Halte davor und werde gleich von hinten von Polizisten, mit polnischem Kennzeichen (!) am Dienstauto, angesprochen. Gott, hab ich was angestellt? Da bin ich jetzt aber gespannt!
      Er (FRONTEX Polizist aus Frankreich, wie sich dann herausstellte) fände meine Africa Twin so toll, denn er hatte bis vor zwei Jahren auch eine, aber aus Zeitmangel...
      Er hat dann seinem Kollegen alles darüber erklärt und mir dann zwei Mal gratuliert. 😁

      Daraufhin hat mich die Chefin in bestem Deutsch begrüßt (hatte in D gearbeitet) gefragt woher ich genau käme und mir aufgezählt, was ich alles gutes gaben könne.
      Die Hühnerbrust mit Pommes, Tsaziki und einem griechischen Salat waren mehr als köstlich.

      Hatte danach noch einen netten Ratsch mit den Polizisten, die nicht wirklich beschäftigt waren. In der Gegend ist halt auch nichts los.

      Jetzt campe ich am Ohridsee und habe einen fürstlichen Stellplatz direkt am Wasser mit Blick Richtung Osten - genau, da geht dann die Sonne morgen auf. Hoffentlich passt dann das Wetter ;-)

      Boote Boote Boote

      Die letzten Kilometer nach Bari haben wir mit etwas Zeitdruck zurückgelegt. „Stau voraus“, hieß es nicht nur einmal. Somit sind wir ohne große Pausen und ohne Essen (naja ein kleiner Snack gab es dann doch) auf der Fähre eingetrudelt. Deshalb waren wir die ersten im SB Restaurant auf dem Schiff. Unsere 4 m² Kabine haben wir schnell abgecheckt.
      Doch am Ende des Tages wurden wir mit einem grandiosen Sonnenuntergang belohnt. Tschüss Italien!      Read more

      Ship 🚢 Ahoy!

      We were efficiently on board by 10 am! And having a bloody Mary by 1030! It is so interesting to witness human form on a cruise ship… I had forgotten how gregarious & loud & ravenous everyone gets! People are filling their plates to the top with burgers and fries and pasta and fruit… Everyone is already drinking their fill from the bar… Cocktails at 11 am… Bring it on! 🍹 🍸

      Unexpectedly, we stumbled onto the Broadway Theatre 🎭 where the Muster & Safety demonstration was happening… We forgot all about it! But, let’s face it. If the ship goes down, we go down with the captain… Or, on the captain LOL. 🤩🤣😝

      German and I were wandering around to the ship trying to acclimatise and familiarise ourselves with the layout… The first thing related to this: which was the front of the ship, and which was the back of the ship! I felt more dizzy than ever due to the fact I have not cruised for so long (…well, not on a ship 🛳️ anyway).

      We were also pleasantly surprised at the clientele on board. It is so different to a South Pacific P&O cruise… Yes, there are still the oldies and the goodies, but there are plenty of hotties 🔥 as well! ✊🏻😝🍹

      We found out that the Internet packages now cost $160 for the entire cruise, so I am going to try and leave without the Internet for a while. I think German almost had a coronary when he realised there was no Internet connection on board. If we had bought the package earlier, it would’ve been cheaper, but, hopefully all will be well and we will find a myriad of other activities to occupy our minds… Obviously the drink 🍺 package will help in this. Part of me is hoping that cutting off a bit from the constant Internet chatter might be a good thing… 🚢 📱

      We got separate inside cabins, which are not too shabby. No view to the outside world, but they have decorated them with mirrors 🪞 in a way that will alleviate that. Having no light 💡 in the morning could be a great thing as well.

      By 5 pm I had already made great 👍🏻 use of my drink package allowance… So, that was money well spent… Apart from constantly drinking waters, I had a piña colada, a cosmopolitan, a Moscow mule and a martini 🍸

      Headed to the pools on deck 11 and then into the whirlpool spas with close contact of certain humans who you would never generally share a metre square space with… Oh well, When in Rome… 😎😜😝

      The dinner in the Restaurant was much more controlled and enjoyable. than any buffet will ever be. It was great that all the TripADeal people were sat in the same area and were able to bond on a different level.

      We went to the show in the Broadway Theatre 🎭 which was called Access all areas: Rock & Roll 🎸
      After the magnificent Italian cultural experience of the past week it was something completely different… Not bad, not good, just different… 😝🙃

      Day, one of the Cruise done and dusted, and we didn’t even stay up late enough to go to the disco 🕺🏼 because we were pretty much stuffed after the last week of running around… Don’t get me wrong, it has been fantastic, but tiring… Time to recharge ready for the final Italian destination tomorrow and meeting up with Marta in her home town of Venice 💚🤍❤️      Read more

      Oldie but a goodie

      For our first morning in Italy we woke up, packed our things and headed to our included breakfast - a cappuccino, a croissant and freshly squeezed OJ 👌

      We then wandered around Bari, enjoyed another cappuccino and had one of the most delicious lunch rolls ever: A prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes, pistachio spread and burrata roll.

      After more aimless walking we headed for our bus which took us to the 3rd oldest city in the world and the oldest in Europe - Matera.

      After some back and forth with our hotel/b&b owner she informed us we couldn't check in until 19:30, we got off the bus at 15:30. So we had a good chunk of time to kill and places to explore with our lovely packs, as we couldn't drop them anywhere either.

      Phill got stuck chatting (listening) to a local for almost an hour, before we explored an old underground water tank. We then walked through Sassi de Matera which is a cave network inhabited since the Paleolithic era with excavations & expansions over the years. But more on that tomorrow!

      It was 20 past 7 at this point and we had just walked what felt like 2000 steps (with our packs still on) so we decided to get some gelato. Now this chocolate gelato was the best thing I had ever tasted, 10/10 will be going back tomorrow.

      After it finally hit 19:30 and we could check in, we dumped our packs and peeled off our very VERY sweaty Tshirts and headed to complimentary drinks at the attached restaurant where we also enjoyed a tagliere di salumi e formaggi (meat and cheese tray).

      Once we got back to the room we booked a walking tour for tomorrow morning, we also washed the clothes we wore today as they were a biohazard.

      Kulinarischer Feldzug durch Bari 😎☀️

      April 30 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

      Nach einer nicht ganz so ruhigen Nacht an der Straße, ging heute früh die Sonne genau in unserem Alkoven-Fenster auf. Was für eine nette Entschädigung 🫶🏼🌅.

      Über Mittag sind wir durch Bari geschlendert und an vielen kulinarischen Ständen „hängen geblieben“ 😅😂. Bunte Pasta, getrocknete Tomaten, Erdbeeren und zu guter Letzt noch ein Gelato 🍦😋. Dolce Vita 🇮🇹😋😎!

      Danach ging es mit Molly noch ein Stück weiter Richtung Süden.

      Am 3.5. wollen wir in Brindisi sein, dann geht’s nämlich mit der Fähre nach Griechenland 🇬🇷🥳😃.      Read more
