      Citywalk Neapel

      Wenn man eh schon fast in der City ist, kann man die Gelegenheit auch nutzen. Wir haben uns etwas außerhalb einen Parkplatz gesucht und sind mit der Bahn (2.40 Euro pro Fahrt) in die Stadt gefahren. Mano ist das voll und dreckig hier, nee das hat mir nicht gefallen. Wir haben vom Hauptbahnhof eine große Runde durch die Altstadt und zum Hafen gemacht, außer die Mega-Meeresfrüchtetüte war das alles eher nix....

      Auch wenn Roger nicht so begeistert war, fand ich es schon ganz ok, wobei die Massen Menschen schon Wahnsinn war. Die Häuser sind tatsächlich etwas morbide. Außerdem war die ganze Stadt mit den Farben der Fußballmannschaft geschmückt, sind wohl Meister geworden.      Read more

      Tag 41 | Napoli (again)

      Zurück in Neapel angekommen, geht es in die Katakomben des San Gennaro.
      Die Führung ist sehr interessant, weshalb sich der Besuch hier definitiv lohnt.

      Die Unterkunft befindet sich dieses Mal zwischen Hafen und Hauptbahnhof, damit wir jeweils gut und schnell abreisen können.
      Bei diesem Aufenthalt merken wir aber mit Blick auf die Nebenstraßen Richtung Bahnhof, dass es sich hier um eine gefährlichere Gegend handeln muss. 😅      Read more

      Day 23

      Day 23 - Kayaking Naples

      Well...the slightly sore throat that I've had for a couple of days turned into a full blown cold overnight. But I decided to push through and make it to our 11:00 kayaking tour that we had scheduled. And I'm so glad I did! We were the only people on the tour. We basically paid less than it costs to rent a kayak for an hour in a tourist beach town for a 3 hour kayak tour around the cliffs and caves of Naples with a private guide. We were the only people in the water and had an amazing view of the entire Bay of Naples. It was awesome and beautiful - definitely one of the highlights of the trip so far. But by the time it was over, I had no energy left for the underground tunnel tour we wanted to do so we went back to the Airbnb for a much needed rest day. We napped, ate pizza, and watched Netflix all day and night. It's been great. Hopefully I feel better tomorrow as we set off to Capri!!Read more

      Amalfi y Atrani 🏘️

      Nos levantamos y desayunamos en la terracita del hotel. Hace un día estupendo, con solazo 🌞 y comemos escuchando a los pajaritos. Muy idílico todo ✨. Subimos en ascensor a un mirador y nos hacemos amigas de unas japonesas (muy pesadas, por cierto). Luego vemos la iglesia, para mi de las más bonitas que he visto, y compramos unos cuantos souvenirs. Ahora si, turistas totales. Decidimos que ya es momento de visitar el pueblecito de al lado: Atrani, un pequeño pueblo de pescadores, con mucho encanto. Descansamos tomando algo en la placita, y volvemos a Amalfi para comer. Tenemos mucha suerte y encontramos sitio bastante rápido. Mamá come risotto 🤌🏼 y yo raviolis, italianas totales 🇮🇹. Seguimos viendo tiendas (no para, no para, no para) y hacemos otra paradita para comprar un dulce para luego. Recogemos las maletas del hotel y vamos al ferry, donde nos peleamos con media Italia, y parte del extranjero por defender nuestro sitio, y mamá termina yendo de pie, y yo enterrada con todo el equipaje encima 🥲. Después de la odisea, y de casi salir apaleadas, nos espera otra aventura con el taxi. Una vez más, discusión con un taxista que nos intenta timar, y luego conseguimos uno aceptable.       Cenita ❤️‍🩹

      Para quitarnos el disgusto, decidimos cenar probando unas cervecitas italianas nuevas, y dar una vuelta por el barrio. Mamá está encantada de volver a Nápoles (pista: no). Al llegar a la casita nos encontramos un visitante, recién llegado del jardín: una babosa 🐌 . SOS. Tras mucho show, consigo envalentonarme y sacarla con una hoja de la casa, y devolverla a su ecosistema natural. #savethebabosa ☺️. Ahora si, a dormir que nos lo hemos ganado.       Aeropuerto de Nápoles 🛫

      Nos levantamos tranquilamente, y un taxi que ya dejamos pedido anoche, viene a recogernos a la puerta (como a unas princesas 👑) y nos lleva al aeropuerto de Napoli 🤌🏼. Desayunamos, pasamos el control (a ninguna le toca el control de drogas, para sorpresa de todos) y, tras una parada técnica para que mamá compre una mochila 🎒 (más), nos dirigimos a la puerta de embarque. Hace un calor impresionante 🥵, menos mal que mamá lleva un abanico 🤗. Nos retrasan el vuelo (1h) y nos cambian 2 veces la puerta de embarque. La gente no puede más, y los niños están llorando 🙃. Por fin nos subimos al avión ✈️ rumbo a Milán.

      Herculaneum, near Naples

      Herculaneum is like Pompeii, except instead of being covered with ash when Mt Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, Herculaneum was buried in mudflow. The end result is that it's better preserved. A very cool site, we could have spent another hour looking around.

      We didn't end up exploring Naples at all, because we were hungry for lunch when we got back to the port from our Herculaneum tour, and then we felt like spending our last afternoon enjoying the ship. We had high tea, said some goodbyes, took care of some business, and packed. One more dinner, one more sleep, then back to reality.      Read more

      "Vedi Napoli e poi muori"

      Rough translation "See Naples and die". There is nothing else worth seeing after a visit to Naples according to this old Italian proverb..

      It is dirty, smelly and noisy. Not necessarily a criticism from me as I love cities and this is definitely a buzzing city. I really enjoyed the maze of narrow alleys and then when you reach the bay with its beautiful waters and the view of Vesuvius, it really is quite something.

      We got the train from Pompeii to Naples as Maria's son had advised us that all the cars in Naples were round ;)

      We massively underestimated the size of Naples and ended up walking 12 miles throughout the day. A lot of it in search of Piazza Plebiscito and the Pizza Fritta (fried pizza) that had been recommended to us. It didn't disappoint. They made it fresh in front of us. It had tomato, salami, buffalo ricotta and something else I can't remember, then fried in about 2 minutes. Piping hot and delicious, my mouth is watering at the thought!

      After we found this treasure, we wandered to the bay and sat by the water, taking in the view and the Italian street style which appears to be popular in Naples.. very gansgta.

      Luckily for my back which is suffering at the moment, Stuarts new found love of espressos means that we can stop often for a seat in one of the many cafes down the side streets. However, having seen on the news that 2 days previously 6 people were shot in a 24 hour period, it was a bit disconcerting hearing a loud bang to which a lady next to said "I don't like this at all" and quickly moved on. Convincing myself it was a balloon we stayed to finish our drinks and evidently lived to tell the tale.. Maybe we should take the proverb a little more literally!      Read more

      Bella Italia - Napoli

      Nur 2 Stunden südlich mit dem Zug bin ich dann nach Napoli. Die drittgrößte Stadt Italiens nach Rom und Mailand und auch die verrufenste der Städte, weil viel Müll in den Straßen liegt, viele Migranten auf der Straße leben und ein ständiges Verkehrschaos herrscht. Vieles hier hat mich an Buenos Aires erinnert :)
      Trotzdem ist die Stadt weitaus besser als ihr Ruf. Als die Wiege der Pizza in Europa und im Golf von Neapel am Fuße des Vesuvs gelegen hat sie vieles zu bieten.
      Ich bin gegen 12 Uhr mittags angekommen, konnte direkt einchecken und bin dann direkt auf Erkundungstour gegangen und habe mir zum Abschluss eine köstliche Pizza Margherita mit einem schönen Rotwein gegönnt.
      Viele Sehenswürdigkeiten werden gerade restauriert und waren teilweise verhüllt, aber wenn man so viele bieten kann :)
      Schön war der Satz einer Napolitanerin die sagte: "Hier in Napoli sind wir alle jung bis 50 oder 60 Jahre. Denn so lange wohnen wir zu Hause bei der Mama"
      Das beschreibt die Jobsituation und Lebensweise recht gut, von dem was ich in der kurzen Zeit mitbekommen habe.
      Deshalb wird die Stadt auch gerade aufgehübscht um wieder mehr Besucher anzulocken. Ich fands toll.      Read more

      Neapel und sein Chaos

      Nachdem wir beim Anhalter fahren mit einem BMW M4 um die Kurven drifteten, uns Sandmücken beim Schlafen belästigt haben und wir endlich Mal wieder einen weichen Untergrund haben wollten, entschieden wir uns für ein gesittetes Hostelleben in Neapel. Glücklicherweise schleifte Thesi mich in jeden der 300 Vintageläden, sodass wir uns schon ein wenig im Gewusel von Neapel zurecht finden mussten. Neapel in Kurzform: Man überlegt zweimal in welche Gasse man geht, es stinkt, es ist laut und super überfüllt. Doch irgendwie hat Neapel seinen eigenen Charme, verstärkt durch die unbeschreiblich guten und günstigen Pizzen.Read more
