We planned today to get out of Venice itself and into the surrounding islands. A 24 hour vaparetto ticket purchased, we walked to the north of Venice to get to Murano, home to the famous glass. A short hop across the gleaming waters, we wandered the streets of sleepy Murano making tracks toward the glass museum. The pieces in here were interesting enough but the video showing how they were made was fascinating. Back on the vaparetto, we circumnavigated Venice to the islands of Giudecca and San Giorgio before taking a scenic vaparetto up the Grand Canal to Rialto where we grabbed a coffee to warm up from the freezing day. We found late-afternoon lunch in Farini, enjoying pizza and espresso before deciding on one last vaparetto trip for the day - down and back up the Grand Canal to enjoy Venice at sunset and at night. A stunning pink sunset rounded off our great trip; we head home tomorrow morning but with enough time on our travel card to take the vaparetto to our bus stop.Read more
