Landing at KMG was smooth, pre-booked transportation was already waiting for us.
After checking into the hotel, we were greeted by Bao Ge and his wife — friends we had made during a trip to Antarctica. They are natives of Kunming and had planned a guided tour for us of the city’s historical areas.
Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province, located in the central part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau at an elevation of about 1,900 meters. Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," it enjoys a mild, pleasant climate year-round. The city covers approximately 21,000 square kilometers and has a population of around 8.6 million.
As one of China's first historically and culturally renowned cities, Kunming boasts a rich heritage, including the ancient Dian culture and the famed Southwest Associated University from the WWII era. It is home to 25 ethnic groups, such as the Yi and Hui, living alongside the Han majority, creating a vibrant cultural tapestry.
Bao Ge and his wife led us to visit Green Lake Park, the former site of the National Southwest Associated University, the former site of Yunnan Military Academy, the Victory Memorial Hall, and Huanggong East Street. We sipped rose tea while listening to Bao Ge tell the stories of Pu’er tea. Then, at Fuzhaolou — a restaurant themed around the National Southwest Associated University — we enjoyed famous Yunnan dishes such as steam pot chicken, porcini mushrooms, erkuai (rice cakes), and other delicacies.

办理入住酒店后，保哥夫妇来与我们会合——他们是我们去南极旅行时结识的朋友。两人是昆明本地人，并计划带我们游览市区历史景点。
昆明是云南省省会，位于云贵高原中部，海拔约1900米，素有“春城”之称，因四季如春、气候宜人。全市面积约2.1万平方公里，常住人口约860万。
这里历史文化悠久，以古滇文化、抗战时期的西南联大等闻名。昆明是多民族聚居地，汉族与彝族、回族等25个少数民族和谐共处，民族风情浓郁。
保哥夫妇带领我们游览了翠湖公园、西南联大旧址、云南讲武堂旧址、抗战胜利纪念堂以及黄公东街等地方。我们品尝着玫瑰花茶，听保哥讲普洱茶的典故，随后在以西南联大为主题的福照楼享用了云南名菜——汽锅鸡、牛肝菌、饵块等美味佳肴。 Czytaj więcej
