Cherry Blossoms in WinterDecember 24, 2018 in Japan ⋅ 🌙 6 °C
I am not too ashamed to say that we tied one on a couple of nights ago. It was a reasonably early in the night when we retreated after a big day to the comfort of our apartment. We had a home cooked meal and some cleansers.
Mums eyes were heavy and Dad seemed to learn a new language so he and I decided only cure was to hit up the nearest bar while Mum slept off the droopy eyes.
We walked a few blocks in search of salvation and came across something even more incredible, cherry blossoms in winter. But Tokyo neon style. Several street blocks had every tree lit up with millions of beautiful white and blue fairy lights. They made the sky seem white and for a minute it felt like it was snowing. A beautiful white Christmas right in the middle of Tokyo.
If I were to a recall an occasion that has drawn gobsmacked silence from any of the Dyer’s I would draw a blank but at that moment on that night, neither Dad or I could describe what we were looking at. Deciding no bar could top that we went home for a nightcap and held the secret firmly under our Santa hats.
The following night, in search of wifi we took Mum down the street with us. Really just to see the reaction which like us, was of stunned silence and then a lot of video. It was spectacular. We followed that by dinner and a Japanese folk concert before we bid sayonara for now to Tokyo.Read more
