  • Just Get Started

    January 3 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 45 °F

Went to the senior center this morning. I could barely manage 5 minutes on the stationary bike, then spent 20 minutes on the treadmill. And then I went to the Chair Exercise class. It was actually a little bit challenging and I did break a sweat. And then I sat in the lounge and worked on a puzzle for an hour or 2.

When I got home I prepared mushroom spinach lasagna.

So I feel I can veg in front of the TV and watch Grimm for a bit

  • sitting in her dog bed watch Miss Rachel

    Austin Here I Come

    January 4 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

Odin picked out this doggie bed for Artemis one day while we were shopping. It was on sale and I bought it even though I didn't think it was going to be useful. Well, she loves it! One afternoon she fell asleep in it. Yesterday she was carrying it around trying to figure out where to put it so she could watch Miss Rachel. Josh has started turning her favorite show on while he prepares dinner. It has only taken a few days and now she expects it as part of her evening routine.Read more

  • SP&R Overlook & Aquarium Outing

    January 9 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

Today I took the #50 bus to the Light Rail and then to the Light Rail to West Lake Station where I met up with a group of other like minded people to explore. Courtney led the group. We walked to & through Pike Place Market to the new Overlook Walkway. The walkway is a lovely winding path that goes over the busy road and then down to the warfs and the aquarium. We got into the aquarium for free with the Senior Gold Cards. It was a lovely outing with some friendly people. I'm looking forward to doing more group outings and using public transportation more.

On the way back to the Light Rail I stopped in an art gallery that we had passed on the way to Pike's. The carvings were incredible. Some of them were almost affordable.

  • Time to Move It

    January 14 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

I've decided it's time for some adventures. I'm flying to Austin on Thursday and hoping for a little bit warmer weather. Then I'll be back in Seattle for a couple of weeks. And then Puerto Viarta for a week. But then I need to hit the road! It's been way too long since I utilized my Van in the way I meant to when I purchased it. I want to travel in it for a couple of months and then when it warms up in the PNW I'll explore Washington and Oregon. So....that's my plan. Yay!!!Read more

  • Two Homes

    Jan 17–18 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

I feel like I have 2 homes. Even though I don't have a house in Austin it still feels like home. David's here, my friends are here, I know my way around, it's home. I live in Seattle now but it only partially feels like home.

Wendy picked me up at the airport and we went out for lunch. Then she dropped me at David's. Friday David had his sinus surgery. He was pretty miserable afterwards. But today; Saturday, he was feeling a lot better. I went over to Wendy's in the afternoon and met her grandbaby who is adorable. I should have taken a photo of her. Just like Artemis, she has a lot to say. She's very cute but a little shy around strangers.

Then tonight I went to the Saturday Contra Dance. I knew almost everyone there! The band was very good and the dancing wasn't bad. I'm so glad I went. But on the way home I started tearing up. I really miss this dance community (and the rest of my friends). I definitely want to go again on Wednesday.

  • I'm Here

    January 22 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 50 °F

"When you wake up, you notice that you're here."
Got this quote from a book I've been reading. I'm not sure why but I really like it. It speaks to me on some bizarre esoteric level.

It's been.quite a few days so far. While David is recovering from his surgery I managed to do something to my lower back. I could barely change positions the first day. David had to take care of me! He happened to have a cane from when his back was out and that has been a great help. And a really nice, extra-large heating pad. My back is much better today. I even managed to take a shower. I probably could have driven but I didn't need to. ......

Yesterday Jeannie had a stroke. Her daughter, Shani texted me. They got her to the hospital pretty quick & the arm & leg paralysis seems to have completely resolved. But she managed to break another 🦴. Wendy dropped me at the hospital today so I could visit Jeannie while she went to her ENT appt. Jeannie seems to be doing well and is in good spirits.

Then Wendy & I went to Torchy's for a late lunch & HEB for some shopping.

So it's been quite a few days! And I just have to say: "when I wake up, I notice I am Here!"

  • Fun & Games

    January 24 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

A wonderful day in Austin. Wendy and I went to see the Troll in Pease Park. It's as cool as all the others I've seen but unfortunately when you've already seen 4, the 5th one is not quite as awe inspiring (or shocking). I guess that's true for many things. After seeing shocking stuff over and over it's not as shocking. Will our democracy survive constant insults, will people become complacent, will the new Hitler destroy what is left of humanity and human decency? It is a very scary & ..... I can't think of a word to describe my fear.

    Okay. Enough of that

Wendy and I met with Arlie, Catherine and Shirley at Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe. We had such a good time. I'm usually not all that into games but playing with these ladies was great. First we played Anomia & then Code Names. Neither were strategy games or games that required you to remember what cards had been played. Maybe I found out what types of games I liked. We laughed and laughed. Much more interactive and interesting than any other games I've played. Also the place was packed, the waiter was so personable, the food & drinks were good and they have a huge selection of Mead! What more could one need!

  • And So It Goes

    January 25 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Another productive day in Austin. I picked up a rental car at the airport this morning then drove around for a bit. Ended up going to an old favorite, El Camino Realer for their spinach mushroom omelette. Then stopped at Academy to check out the sneakers just in case I could find something. Sure enough, I managed to find a pair of Sacony's in my size on sale for $45. Yay!

Stopped in to visit Jeannie at the hospital. She's being transferred to Rehab today. She fell asleep for a bit while I was there and she did a lot of twitching and moving in her sleep like my dad used to do. It's weird...

Found a little coffee shop called Jo and had a Cafe au lait.

Then spent a couple of hours working on cauling my digital photos which has been on my to-do list for quite awhile. Also listening to an audiobook that I was enjoying. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.

Then went to Wendy's for a bit of TV watching before returning to David's. So a very busy and productive day!

  • I'm So Happy ..

    January 28 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

Suddenly feeling So Happy! Many factors involved.

I so enjoyed seeing old friends and hanging out with my son. I met with Nick, my financial advisor today and things are looking good. I leave for Seattle tomorrow. I hope I can keep this positive mood going!

Also, Bev and I have our next trip in the works. Not 100% planned but we are going to Europe in April.

Addendum: if you're wondering about the photo; GLOW is a Netflix series that David introduced me to. I wasn't sure about it at first but by the third episode I was hooked. Instead of watching a movie, we watched the whole first season tonight. I love it. 🎊 It doesn't sound like something that might be so intriguing. On the surface it is about a director trying to make a show featuring women wrestlers. But it is also a study on women's friendship and sisterhood. And there are 2 more seasons!
