A wonderful day in Austin. Wendy and I went to see the Troll in Pease Park. It's as cool as all the others I've seen but unfortunately when you've already seen 4, the 5th one is not quite as awe inspiring (or shocking). I guess that's true for many things. After seeing shocking stuff over and over it's not as shocking. Will our democracy survive constant insults, will people become complacent, will the new Hitler destroy what is left of humanity and human decency? It is a very scary & ..... I can't think of a word to describe my fear.

Okay. Enough of that

Wendy and I met with Arlie, Catherine and Shirley at Emerald Tavern Games & Cafe. We had such a good time. I'm usually not all that into games but playing with these ladies was great. First we played Anomia & then Code Names. Neither were strategy games or games that required you to remember what cards had been played. Maybe I found out what types of games I liked. We laughed and laughed. Much more interactive and interesting than any other games I've played. Also the place was packed, the waiter was so personable, the food & drinks were good and they have a huge selection of Mead! What more could one need!Read more

Salt Lake City bis zum Bryce Canyon

Der erste Blick nach dem Sonnenaufgang ging auf das Capitol. Schnell noch alles zusammengepackt und verstaut. Wir haben das Auto gewaschen damit der Abstandssensor wieder funktioniert. Dann sind wir auf den Highway gefahren der uns zum Bryce Canyon führen sollte. Unterwegs gab es jeoch eine Planänderung. Wir fuhren eine andere Route durch die Pampa um zu Timons Friseur zu gelangen. Dort angekommen hatte ich Zeit einen Wendysburger auszuprobieren. Danach bin ich zum Drive-in der Wells Fargo Bank um 4 Rollen Quaters zu holen. Nach dem Friseur kauften wir noch ein bisschen ein und fuhren zum Bryce Canyon. In einem kleinen Örtchen vor dem Bryce Canyon holten wir weitere Quaters. In der Bank sprach uns ein älterer Herr der uns für die Dorfjugend hielt an, ob wir für ihn arbeiten wollen. Als wir verneinten wurde er sehr unfreundlich. Später kamen wir im Red Canyon an machten ein paar Fotos und fuhren weiter zum Bryce Canyon. Da haben wir direkt unser Patch und einige Tokens bekommen und freuten uns auf den Park. Fuhren als erstes bis zum Südlichsten Punkt des Canyons zum Rainbow Point. Dort machten wir halt und haben ausgiebig fotografiert und gefilmt. Nachdem wir merkten wie schnell die Zeit verging beeilten wir uns an den anderen Aussichtspunkten. Die Natural Bridge beeindruckte sehr jedoch war der Bryce Canyon Watch Point und der Sunset Point noch viel beeindruckender. Am Sunset Point genossen wir den Sonnenuntergang und kochten uns noch Spaghettis. Wir trafen bereits die ersten Camporeeteilnehmer die ihre Autos Farbenfroh mit Go Gillette or Bust und anderen coolen Sprüchen bemalt haben. Als wir mit dem Essen fertig waren steuerten wir ein Schlafplatz im Gebirge an. Wir haben schnell unser Übernachtungszeug ausgepackt um schnell ins Bett zu kommen.Read more

Since my route out of Austin would take me right by my old neighborhood I decided to stop at El Camino Reale for a quick breakfast. They make the absolute best spinach omelets. And who knows when I'll ever get a chance to have another. So regardless of the fact that it would delay my progress, I decided to have a sit down breakfast.

There are a lot of things I will really miss about Austin and Texas.

Almost ready

Yesterday I painted the master bathroom to match the rest : Cathedral Gray. I do really like the look of the gray. Also did some more weeding and cleaning out garden beds. My right arm is so so sore. I can barely raise it above my head. It reminds me of the time David tried to teach me how to shoot baskets. Several days later at work I found I could not raise my arm to hang up an I V bag. It took me awhile to figure out why!

I have one more thing to paint: the trim around the front door. That shouldn't take too long. Then I just have to do some final clean up.

I was going to grab a breakfast taco at Camino Reale around the corner but decided to sit down and have one of their veggie omelettes. It's the only place I know that uses fresh mushrooms and spinach for their omelettes and enchiladas. I don't come often but I'm going to miss them. They also have decent coffee for a Mexican restaurant.Read more

Absolutely love Austin - both decided if we were to move over here this would be where we’d live 💛 Very modern, welcoming city, with a more liberal feel than much of southern America. Great bars, music and comedy scene, and so much green space surrounding the city for hiking and running - so beautiful. Saw some comedy, had a dance lesson, ate a mountain of Mexican food, and walked for miles and miles each day! 🥾Read more

Now For The Paperwork

So now I have a bunch of red tape & paperwork to do. Selling a house is almost more complicated than buying one. There's all kinds of disclosure statements and stuff to complete & get notorized.

I had planned on taking a walk in the neighborhood and taking some photos but time got away from me. I really wanted some good shots of the tree limbs entangled with the electrical wires. The next power outage just waiting to happen. As it was getting dark, the photos don't do it justice. I'll try again on Saturday.Read more

Nach über 1000km und 12 Stunden Fahrt sind wir endlich angekommen. Zweimal standen wir im Stau, ansonsten gibt's nicht viel zu sagen.
