I didn't actually set foot on Greenland, of course. The most efficient route between West Coast US and the UK is the polar route, which flies over the southern tip of Greenland. It was nighttime on the LAX-LHR flight, but daytime on the way back.
The cabbie who took me to Heathrow was of Irish extraction and was shocked to learn that there is no Irish pub on Molokai, since you can find them anywhere in the world, even in the most remote of places! Reckons he and his wife are going to retire here and open one.Leer más
ViajeroWhat every traveller longs to see! The person sitting in the window seat was originally seated in the last seat of my row but she, very sensibly, moved to the empty window seat just before takeoff.
ViajeroIf I remember correctly, the cabin attendants made folks who were awake and opened their window shades close them again. This is where the galley comes in extra handy! The emergency doors back there have small windows built into them and the crew was happy to put those shades up so I could take some photos.
Had a less pleasing experience trying to find my way from the international terminal to the domestic one than on my outward flights, but at least I had plenty of time to make the connection. Had to stay in an expensive, very twee, guest house overnight as the hostel I'd stayed in previously was full. The plane from LAX arrived too late to continue straight on to MKK. Got up early in the morning and snapped this lovely pic of a nearby street with the Iao peak in the distance.Leer más
ViajeroThis isn't the plane I came in on. It's one of the bigger ones that Mokulele (which is owned by Southern Airlines, a mainland company) puts mainly on the MKK to Honolulu route. One day I'll get to ride on it instead of a little 8-seater!

Viajero The first three photos were taken out of the starboard side window, facing north.
