Emily Embo 🇬🇧The West Coast Part 2 From Greymouth, the journey continues up the West Coast to today's destination, Cape Foulwind Lighthouse. Along the way, there is much to see, with the first stop being Coal Creek Falls. Not far from Greymouth, it takes an hour through the forest to reach the waterfall. Afterward, the journey continues north towards the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. The name "Pancake Rocks" comes from the flat, layered rocks resembling stacked pancakes. These rocks formed through the deposition process of limestone and mud that began around 30 million years ago. As for the Blowholes, they are connected to the Pancake Rocks. Blowholes are natural caves and tubes in the rocks through which seawater splashes and gushes during high tide and strong waves, creating impressive fountains and spray shooting through the openings in the rocks. I arrived just in time for high tide, as the spectacle is particularly impressive when the tide is at its peak. Now, the endpoint of today's journey is Cape Foulwind near Westport. Here, I walk along the cliffs and watch the sunset. There's no sign of other tourists, allowing me to truly enjoy the experience. The next morning, the exact opposite happens as I observe the seal colony. I am just heading back when a busload of German tourists arrives. It's worth being out early in the morning and late in the evening if you want to avoid crowds. Now, my next destination is Nelson, and I've already uploaded my experiences from there to my blog :)
