    Garden of Gethsemane

    December 15, 2018 in Palestine ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Here we celebrated mass in the location that Jesus last prayed with his disciples. This was also the location where Judy’s betrayed Jesus and where Peter denied Jesus three times. The alter is built on the rock where Jesus last prayed. We also saw the Garden of Olives where one of the trees is over 2000 years old. This tree was around at the time of Jesus. There is also an olive tree that Pope Paul the 2nd planted 54 years ago and one that Pope Francis planted 4 years ago.Read more

    The Church of All Nations

    May 15, 2019 in Palestine ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

The Church of All Nations, also known as the Church or Basilica of the Agony, is a Roman Catholic church located at the base of the Mount of Olives. It enshrines a section of bedrock where Jesus is said to have prayed before his arrest (Mark 14:32-42). The church was built between 1919 and 1924 using funds donated from many different countries. The coat-of-arms of twelve of the countries from which donations originated are incorporated into the ceiling, each in a separate, small dome, and also into the interior mosaics.Read more

    Israel Defense Forces (IDF)

    May 16, 2019 in Palestine ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Israelis are obligated to join the IDF at the age of 18 after they complete high school. Men serve 3 years and women serve two. Service can be postponed if they continue their education in a profession accepted by the IDF such as medicine, electronics, computers, electricity, etc but they must serve extra years if they do this. The Druze, (a sect of Arab Muslims) also serve in the Israeli army and are loyal but Israeli Muslims and Christian Arabs are not obligated to serve.
The purpose of the IDF is to preserve the State of Israel, to protect its independence, and to foil attempts by its enemies to disrupt the normal life within it.

    Church and Garden of Gethsemane

    February 2, 2017 in Palestine ⋅ ☀️ 7 °C

    The Garden of Gethsemane

Left of the Tomb of the Virgin in Jerusalem is a passage leading to the Grotto of the Agony, then immediately south is the Garden of Gethsemane with its eight ancient olive-trees. Next to the Garden is the Church of All Nations. (D)

The Modern Grotto of Gethsemane (the Oil Press)

Inside the cave are an impressive stone vault and three altars with murals over them. Over the high altar there is Jesus Praying among the Apostles, while the paintings over the side altars depict the Assumption of the Virgin and the Kiss of Judas.

In spite of some renovations carried out in the late fifties of the last century, of all the many holy places in Jerusalem the Grotto of Gethsemane has best conserved its original appearance, that is, the appearance it had at the time of Christ's life on earth. (W)

    Gethsemane

    November 10, 2018 in Palestine ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Read more
