Chucked out of weight-watchers

So, an unexpected afternoon in Porto; what to do whilst I rearrange travel.

I wasn’t intending this; but purely for research purposes, a francesinha is on the menu. The spiritual home of this latter-day speciality appears to be the Café Santiago; so there’s a bit of serendipity. It’s packed, and there’s a queue, which is a good sign and as the only solo diner I’ve got a stool at the bar.

I’m not usually one for photographing my food, but this deserves it. It’s the kind of menu item which anywhere normal would only list as a joke with either a prize or ‘money back’ promise if you ate it all. The ingredients are listed as: (processed) bread; ‘fresh’ sausage; red sausage; ham, cheese, fried egg and ‘special sauce’. With French fries. It’s going to be a challenge to eat it before the sense of self-loathing overtakes me. As you only live once (probably not for long if this is a typical lunch) I’ve gone for the top of the range into which they’re somehow going to insert a portion of sirloin steak.

Porto 1.

Nach Santiago direkt nach Porto, Portugal. Anreise war schwierig, da so viel verschiedene Autobahnservice Gesellschaften... Mal nur Münze, dann Credit card, dann nur Electronic toll, aber auch das ging irgendwann. In Porto erst mal Pause, kurz mit dem Fahrrad ca 20 Minuten hinein und direkt begeistert.. Wow. Was für eine Stadt. Wirklich sehr sehr schön. Könnte ne ganze Weile hier bleiben.. Aber zwei Tage reichen dann. Habe ein hop on off bis Ticket gekauft. Fehl kauf, da ich fast alles zu Fuss gemacht habe. Nächstes mal genauer schauen wie weit alle s weg ist. Dann francesina gegessen, ist ein aufgemotzter croque Monsieur oder so. Aber richtig viel... Die erste, Nacht war abenteuerlich, da locals, jugendliche, bis länger als 0100 Party machten... In einer Montagnacht.. Habe dann noch umgeparkt, nachts, Hölle, aber ging irgendwie, Wetter eher schlechter morgens, zunehmend auf 25 Grad., ist gerade so ein zwei Tage so. Und dann die Stadt besichtigt, diese Stadt kann locker mit Düsseldorf mithalten, so schön, alles fußläufig erreichbar, tolle Qualität und gute Preise, gutes Wetter, Strand vor der Tür. 😀 Portwein Ohne Ende... 😀 Ich komm wieder, auf jeden Fall!!! 😁Read more
