      Day 3 Azambuja - Valada

      September 11, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

      Day 3 - Azambuja to Valada. 11 September started @ 08:12 & stopped at about 11:45. 13k/8.1m. Walking time 2h32m. 16,642 steps. 581 calories.

Before I share my day want to remember September 11, 2001. Those that died. Their families & friends. Unfortunately, it is a date many of us will remember - where we were & who we were with. The world changed on that day.

My day started a bit later, because I had a short walking day. I needed one! And I didn’t go off the wrong direction!

Before leaving Azambuja had a coffee and pastry. From the photos you will see it was sort of foggy & overcast. Great walking weather. The clouds cleared about an hour in.

It was a day of walking among the tomato fields. Periodically there were some laying along the road. Yes, I did pick up a good one, rubbed off the dirt and ate it! Just like growing up rub off the dirt & enjoy.

The hostel did not open until 2 pm, so I had some time to put my feet up & people watch.

Photo captions give a bit more.

      Enjoy the journey! Bom Caminho.

      Additions to Day 3

      September 11, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Additions to day 3. After yesterday’s posting I went to find a place to eat and discovered a whole new landscape to the small town of Valada.

There is a huge dike wall between the Tejo River and the town. The place I ate was right on the river.

Enjoy more from Day 3 with photos & captions. Bom Caminho

      Short recovery day.

      March 21 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

After yesterdays marathon of pavement walking, I had a choice of doing a 12 km stage or a 32. I decided to have an easy day and just do the 12. Tomorrow 20 to Santarem! I also knew that there would be a nice albergue here in Valada tonight. I walked most of the day with Eli and his daughter from San Diego USA. They had reservations in Santarem tonight so the had to press on. They will be there for 2 days tho, so most likely see them again. A few pics from today!Read more

      Day 3: Valada

      May 6, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We are now 71.8 kms into our Camino. The weather continues hot with a high of 30 degrees. It's forecast to get even hotter in the coming days. Yikes!

Today, the Camino took us initially along a trafficked road, followed by the relative quietness of a path parallelling the railroad tracks, and lastly, along flat farmland roads.

We saw what looked like an infestation of snails on our travels today. They were covering everything from plants to walls to Camino waymarker signs.

We arrived in Valada around 3:30 pm, too early for our 4pm check-in, so it was vinho Verde time!

Day 3 - Azambuja to Valada

      April 3, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

Today was a short day of only 9 miles hiking. We pushed fairly hard the first two days, 16 and 18 miles. We are both a bit sore with a few minor blisters on our feet, but we're feeling great to be here and enjoying Portugal.

Although the busy season has not begun, all the alburges are pretty full, so we're going to have to start making reservations so we don't end up having to do an unexpectedly long hike. The next alburges from here is 12 miles (total of 20 miles for the day). And since we have a whole month to do the hike, we're not in an awful hurry.

      Etappe 4

      May 13, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

      Hebeds guet.
