      Abflug und Ankunft

      Gestern ging es also los nach Rumänien, um genau zu sagen nach Bukarest.
      Nach relativ pünktlichem Start und auch ebensolcher Ankunft, erlebte ich dann :
      Mietwagen steht woanders, ich musste ein Shuttle dorthin nehmen
      Habe ich erstmal suchen müssen. Wo ist denn die Haltestelle für das Shuttle?😅🙄
      Okay. Gefunden.
      Die Fahrt durch Bukarest zu meinem Hotel, dem Rin Grand Hotel, war dann sehr abenteuerlich und verursachte mir mehr als einen Schweißausbruch 💦😅
      Rush our, vierspurige Straße, Kreisel oder Abbiegungen und mein Navi wollte da nicht mitmachen 🙈🙈🙈
      Augen zu und durch ( nicht wörtlich nehmen). Irgendwann kurz nach 20.00 Uhr hatte ich es geschafft.
      17 km in 1,5 Stunden 😂
      Keinen Unfall erlitten, aber einige rumänische Autofahrer zum Verzweifeln gebracht.
      Es war wie früher…. Karte aufgefaltet auf dem Lenkrad und damit durch die Metropole gefahren. Mit Karte meine ich Google Maps auf dem Handy ohne Ton 😂
      Irgendwann sagte die Stimme doch was… Erleichterung 😃
      Daniel, der Shelterinhaber, wo unsere 7 Hunde seit einem Jahr unterbracht sind, wartete auf mich, zeigte mir mein Appartement, das wirklich sehr schön ist und fuhr noch mit mir zum Supermarkt.
      Dieses Desaster ist nicht in Worte zu fassen, es war abenteuerlich. Kasse zum selbst scannen 😅😂

      Mit den wichtigstn Dingen wie Wasser,Cola, Brot und Käse, waren wir letztendlich um 22.30 Uhr wieder im Hotel.
      Absacker alkoholfrei und dann war dieser Tag zu Ende.
      Morgen steht so einiges auf dem Programm.,
      Geplantes, aber auch Unvorhergesehenes😉

      Besuch unserer Hunde im Shelter

      Es war ein langer, aufregender und sehr anstrengender Tag gestern.
      Und wie so oft, ganz anders als geplant ( aber darauf muss man jederzeit gefasst sein😅).
      Ich war eigentlich mit Anastasia zum Sightseeing verabredet, das fiel aber aus diversen verkehrstechnischen Gründen ins Wasser.
      Nichtsdestotrotz und wild entschlossen, gemeinsam die Fahrt zu unseren Hunden anzutreten, trafen wir uns dann nachmittags auf dem Lidl Parkplatz 😂
      Vorher bin ich auf einem kurzen Stück, dreimal falsch gefahren und diversen Zusammenstößen entgangen. Der Verkehr hier ist abartig und die Fahrer mehr als rücksichtslos ( gefährlich). Immerhin habe ich es heute erneut geschafft, ohne Beule, spät abends mein Auto wieder einzuparken 💪
      Auf dem Weg von Bukarest ins Nirgendwo zum Shelter, verfuhren wir uns mehrmals, was nicht unbedingt am Navi lag, sondern eher der Tatsache geschuldet war, dass ich nicht schnell genug die Fahrbahn wechseln konnte. Kein Risiko heißt hier die Devise und lieber Zeit und Umweg in Kauf nehmen 😬
      Irgendwann nach gefühlten Stunden kamen wir an und wurden freundlich und mit viel Gebell empfangen.
      Wir waren bei allen unseren Hunden, haben sie als freundlich bis schüchtern erlebt und die Gastfreundschaft von Daniel, seiner Frau Ionela und Sohn Alex genießen dürfen.

      Alle Hunde lieben Alex, so viel steht fest und Alex liebt alle Hunde.
      Wie man weiß, lügen Hunde nicht….. es war eindeutig zu sehen.
      Ein gutes Gefühl zu wissen, dass es den Hunden hier für rumänische Verhältnisse sehr gut geht.

      Um 20.30 Uhr traten wir wieder die Heimreise an, diesmal verfuhren wir uns nur zweimal 🤗
      Nachdem ich Anastasia an der Metro abgesetzt hatte, erreichte ich dann auch endlich wieder mein Hotel.
      Ruhe und die Klimaanlage, das war auch schon alles, was ich brauchte 😇

      Warnung vor Unwetter erhalten, was dann auch kam. Sehr heftig und dauert noch an.

      Ich muss um 6.00 Uhr aufstehen, denn es geht nach Hatcarau. Anderes Shelter und morgen reist von dort Lassie, eine ältere Hündin von dort nach Deutschland aus und ich werde dabei sein.
      Lassie ist ebenfalls ein von uns geretteter Hund aus der Tötung. Und nun folgt das endgültige Happy End.

      Morgen dann mehr dazu und den anderen Hunden aus dem Hundegarten Hatcarau.

      Bilder kann ich leider fast keine einstellen, da ich sie von der Kamera auf den PC geladen habe, aber sie nicht in der Cloud synchronisiert wurden.
      Ich arbeite noch ohne wlan ausschließlich mit LTE übers Handy.
      Ich hoffe, es wird morgen irgendwann funktionieren 😉

      The People's House

      Today we did a guided tour of the Palace of the Parliament (aka House of the Republic aka The People's House), the seat of the Romanian Parliament. It is on Unity Boulevard, originally named Triumph of Socialism Boulevard.

      It was ordered built by Communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu and built by displacing 50,000 citizens and demolishing their homes in the 1980's (no compensation was offered).

      It is the heaviest building in the world, containing 1,100 rooms, 10 stories above ground, and 8 below, including a nuclear bunker under Ceausescu's former office. If you visited one room every thirty seconds it would take you 9 hours to visit them all.

      After our visit we walked into Unity Plaza for lunch, then home on the underground. The underground system is efficient and reliable - and cheap, a single journey to anywhere on the network is $1.      Läs mer

      Bucharest Old Town

      We caught the underground Metro to the city this morning for a walk around the cobbled, car free streets of the Old Town, a mix of restaurants, nightclubs, ancient churches and historic buildings. And a decent number of caches.

      The weather was fine and hot again, so the walk was leisurely and the refreshment stops numerous. After a few hours walking and lunch al fresco, we caught the underground in the late afternoon back to Marina's, for a quiet night in.      Läs mer

      Children's Day

      We woke up to a warm day for the first day of summer, with 33 degrees forecast. It's also International Children's Day and a public holiday in Romania.

      We walked into the city centre, where many of the streets were closed and were filled with cafe tables, children's games and activities. Of course we stopped on the way for morning tea, lunch and caches.

      After having ice creams in the park, we caught an Uber back to Marina's and had dinner in, before watching the UEFA Champions League final on TV.      Läs mer

      Park'n'Shop

      We caught the underground again today, this time south of the city to Vacaresti Nature Park, which is a wetlands surrounding Lake Văcărești.

      The area was part of a large swampy area on the outskirts of Bucharest that was drained by the Communist Party and apartment blocks built at one end. President Ceaușescu wanted to build a reservoir which was supposed to be filled from Mihăilești Lake, 22 kilometres away, and a concrete dam was built to surround Lake Văcărești.

      The plans were abandoned when communism fell in 1989 and the area was neglected. Due to the area being unused for such long time, plant-life and wildlife flourished and the biodiversity is now considered to be comparable to that of a small river delta. There are now a number of bird hides and walking trails in the park.

      After lunch at a nearby cafe we caught the underground back to the north of the city, stopping at the shopping mall for some supplies and afternoon tea, before walking back to Marina's.      Läs mer

      Air Bnb take 2

      Bit of a mix up really, as so few photos and so much went on 😂
      Here is Lennon enjoying the bath of our second air bnb... The photo of the meal is earlier at lunch, we ate all the foods recommended by the tour guide at a restaurant in the old town also recommended.

      So the second air bnb was much nicer than the first, more spacious, modern and just better. In our haste to get sorted Brace drove off leaving me and Lennon with no food, clothes or toys for the baby 😂 so I collected some bits and bobs from round the house and plonked him in the bath for a while.

      All seemed well, and a better night sleep was had, no itching or bites.

      It wasn't until the next day due to a confusing message from the landlord of this air bnb, Brace admitted he had seen cockroaches in the bathroom the previous night 😭😭😭 the same bathroom he then let me go for a nice relaxing rare bath in, the same bathroom I sat on the floor for ages bathing Lennon. Also we slept on the mattress on the floor that night so Lennon wouldn't fall on the floor, not to mention Lennon was constantly eating bits off the floor 😭😭😭
      Well that was the final straw, I am not good with any creepy crawlies, ever. But the 2 sets we'd had those past 2 days have to be up there with my absolute all time worst nightmares 😫😫😫

      So tears, and a mad collection of all mine and Lennons things, we were going back to our safe lovely beautiful little van. No more air bnbs for us. No thanks.      Läs mer

      BBQ at Matthews House

      What was initially a cup of tea at our Romanian besties house, ended up being a bbq followed by a bonfire with his parents and sister too, who could not have been more lovely.

      His Dad was obsessed with Lennon who was as usual lapping up the attention. Sadly we didn't get many pictures but I really wanted to make sure we remembered those chicken skewers 😂 they live next door to a church, in the centre of Bucharest, so we had choir singing all night which we thought was nice, but they hated because it's all evening every evening... And can feature rap and other unusual religious music 🤣Läs mer

      Elliott came to stay!

      Elliott came to stay for 3 nights, here in Bucharest! Lennon adored him, wasn't shy of him at all and just spent most his time staring at him 🤣

      We were far too busy having fun for me to remember to take many photos 😬

      So night one, we were in the air bnb, Elliott got locked in the bathroom 😂 we tried everything but nothing worked, so we had to call the landlord, who tried everything but nothing worked, so he had to call the locksmith who smashed the lock in 🙈

      Then in the night I felt itchy and had some lumps appear like I was being bitten and then I felt like there were things crawling all over me. I tried to ignore it thinking I was imagining it because of the bites. But later the next day Elliott showed me he also had a bite... The boys checked and there were bedbugs all in the bed me and Lennon had slept in 😭😫😭😫😭

      The boys said they didn't really mind and would just stick it out until Thursday 😫 as the one petrified of bugs and also the only one covered head to toe in itchy bites, it was an absolute no.

      So poor Brace had to take every item of material we had taken in there (which included all our bedding and blanket and clothes and Lennon's teddies and me and Elliott went accross the road to another air bnb we booked      Läs mer

      Wild Mushrooms

      Tried to buy 10 lei's worth of mushrooms from some gypsies on the side of the road, but it was 1kg or nothing... 🤣 So with a full carrier bag of tiny mountain mushrooms I went and explained to Brace we were having mushrooms for the foreseeable

      They were lovely, but they went mouldy before we ate more than a handful 😭
