      Guten Morgen von der Insel.
      Wir genießen die letzten Stunden auf der Insel, denn morgen geht’s schon wieder in Richtung Heimat.
      Nochmal Strand, nochmal Fisch essen, nochmal wunderschöne Sonnenauf- und -untergänge, nochmal diese Wolken.
      Und ist das nicht eine wunderschöne doppelte Strelitzie, die uns unsere Gastgeberin gestern beim Frühstück brachte?      Les mer

      San Miguel de Tajao

      Das hübsche kleine Fischerdorf scheint, wenn man sich die wunderbaren erstklassigen Fischrestaurants wegdenkt, vom Tourismus noch so gut wie unberührt zu sein. Die Restaurants haben es aber in sich: Alle Fische werden von heimischen Fischern des Ortes gefangen, der Gast sucht sich den Fisch seiner Wahl an der Kühltheke aus und dieser wird dann auf kanarischer Art zubereitet. Es war für uns ehrlich ein Genuss: Boquerones (Sardinen) und Tintenfisch als Vorspeise und dann ein wunderbarer Bocinegro (Meerbrasse). Beilagen waren Mojo-Sauce und kanarische Kartoffeln. Wir haben sehr sehr selten so gut Fisch gegessen. Und schon wieder „Geheimtipp“ :-)
      Unseren Verdauungsspaziergang gaben wir dann durch diesen wirklich idyllischen kleinen Ort gemacht und dabei das ockergelbe Vulkangestein am Atlantik bewundert.      Les mer

      Ready for the weekend

      The routine at the finca is basically the same every day during the week. After two more days of horses, donkeys and walks we finish the workweek on friday with lunch. 🥳

      It is really nice to finish early so I still got time to take a shower and start into my weekend trip.

      Getting to the bus station wasn’t too easy as google was leading me to the wrong one but I got some help from a woman who brought me there. As my Spanish is bad and she didn’t speak English it was quite interesting to communicate but there is always a way. 😄

      I took the bus to Santa Cruz expecting a city but not such a big one. It really is a big city. You kinda forget that you are on a small island and just an hour away from a really isolated finca.

      I booked a nice hostel in the city and arrived around 6 pm so had a little time to get some groceries and do some laundry.

      As my Spanish isn’t too good, yet, it is really hard to communicate sometimes but it all works out.

      I met some nice people at the hostel and they invited to me have some drinks with them in the evening. Two girls from Austria and the two guys volunteering at the hostel. Really nice people and it was so fun I got to bed way later than I wanted tho. 🤣      Les mer

      Nicht bereit zur Abreise

      Ein wunderschöner Urlaub geht zu Ende - alles richtig gemacht: tolles Ferienhaus in sehr ruhiger Lage, 10 Autominuten zum Strand, trotzdem zentral zu den Zentren und zu den Naturhighlights, Wetter 1A.
      Morgen dann noch die PS-lose Möhre beim Vermieter entsorgen und über Brüssel nach Hause 🙏🏻      Les mer

      Faultag

      Heute war Faultag, so als Brückentag, denn ab morgen wollen wir sie kennenlernen, die Hauptinsel der Kanaren. Es ist schön sommerlich hier, also Zeit für Aperol, etwas Strand, auch ein wenig das sehr sehr schöne Ferienhaus abwohnen… Hier fehlt es tatsächlich mal an nichts.       Strandtag am Nordatlantik

      Leider kein weißer, wie wir ihn kennen, dafür aber feinster schwarzer Strandsand. Und das quasi vor der Haustür, 10 Autominuten von unserer einsamen Gebirgsunterkunft entfernt. Kaum was los hier, FKK möglich, mit einzelnen Liegebuchten, aus Lavagestein gebaut. Das Wetter war etwas sonnendiffus, aber dadurch eben auch sehr erholsam. War sehr sehr schön. Für uns ein „Geheimtipp“, obwohl ich das Wort hasse, verspricht es doch meist das Gegenteil.Les mer

      … und der hat‘s in sich. Diesmal kommt unsere PS-lose Möhre an ihre Grenzen, oft nur 1. Gang. Zum Glück fast kein Verkehr, weil spät und Wolken.
      In Santiago del Teide gibt‘s dann eine Entschädigung: für uns was noch nie Gesehenes: Lenticularis-Wolken über dem Teide (bilden sich bei Föhn, wenn Luft durch die Berge in Schwingung gerät).Les mer

      Ab in den Süden 🍦🏖

      27. februar, Spania ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

      Auf unserem Weg zurück Richtung Süden hielten wir kurz am Steinbogen von San Miguel de Tajao. Leider aber war hier nicht das Wasser sondern eher der Wind stärker als wir. Man hatte echt Schwierigkeiten voranzukommen und die Augen offen zu halten, wenn der Sand einem ins Gesicht geflogen kam 😂 Schlussendlich sind wir weiter, da man gegen den Wind leider kaum ankommen konnte & entschieden uns, weiter zu fahren und uns einen Strand oder eine kleine Stadt zu suchen und da einfach noch eine Runde baden zu gehen 🤗🌞 An der Promenade gab es ein paar süße kleine Läden, in denen wir auch gleich fündig wurden. Am Abend fuhren wir wieder hoch zum Stellplatz von Tag 1, da er uns so schön in Erinnerung geblieben ist. An diesem Tag aber stellten wir uns die Straße weiter hinten an einen ruhigen Platz, fernab von den anderen Campern, die an diesem Abend noch am gleichen Stellplatz übernachteten. Wir hätten nicht gedacht, dass die Aussicht noch schöner werden kann, aber das wurde sie 🥹 zum Abendessen gingen wir in einen kleines Restaurant nur 10 min zu Fuß von unserem Stellplatz entfernt. Da gab es echte kanarische Spezialitäten. Wir konnten uns nur mit Händen und Füßen verständigen, aber ich glaube, gerade das macht ein gutes einheimisches Restaurant aus 😁😌 Vollgegessen ging es dann zurück in den Van und dann haben wir noch unsere Postkarten geschrieben 🥰 Gute Nacht und bis morgen! 🌟Les mer

      Tenerife Horse Rescue

      I arrived at the finca, which is a really huge place. Lots of animals, from small to big.

      It is really windy which is actually nice because it isn’t too hot. You really need to be careful tho not to get sunburned as it doesn’t feel too hot.
      Well as an albino like me I can just hope sunscreen works. I like my small little house made of clay. It doesn’t get too warm in there as well.

      Tomorrow I will start helping with the horse team. Looking forward to it. 🐴

      Already had a little tour meeting the horses and small animals as well. I even had some birds on my head actually 🙈      Les mer

      Getting used to the finca life

      14. mai, Spania ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

      The first day working at THR. Lots of input and so many horses to meet. 🥰

      After getting ready the horse routine starts at 08:30 with poo 💩 picking and cleaning the paddocks.

      Usually two people per paddock makes it quick and easy. We got four paddocks actually. I think there should be 15 horses and a pony right now. 🤔😄
      And some donkeys. 6 maybe. 🙈

      I start at the main paddock which has 4 horses. Afterwards we tie the horses and give them breakfast. One of the longterms prepares it at 07:30 so it’s soaked properly.
      We got some real slow eaters among them. 🤭

      Next comes cleaning the hooves and eyes. Some need extra treatment with vinegar for the hooves or checking for wounds.

      Then I went to another paddock called horse heaven to help feeding the horses there as well. Then cleaning hooves and eyes. 6 horses here. 😄

      Some horses got horse mums which pay for them and take more or less care for them as well. If they are coming we can do less of the routine for them on the day. Geronimo didn’t need to go on a walk for example because his mum is coming to ride him some days.

      After we fed and cleaned we are going for the fast walk. I got a tour around so no fast walk for me on my first work day but starting Wednesday I will be walking along.

      Afterwards it’s about 11 am and breakfast time. We take a half an hour break to eat some really delicious food from the kitchen team. All sorts of things and then we get back to the rest of the routine.

      Slow walk is with the horses not supposed to go for long exhausting walks but still need some exercise. Every horse is walked at least 5 days a week, not sure about the weekend.

      The donkeys are going for a little walk as well or at least go grazing a little. They can be really stubborn even for a little distance to walk. 🤣

      Then lunch for the horses, just like breakfast and filling up the hay afterwards.

      Then Sinnead gave us a workshop about body language which was really fun. She is a volunteer who is a physician for horses and really knows a lot about 🐴 😁

      And finished with the horse routine for the day. It basically is the same every day and who is doing what changes weekly. There are just some extra tasks sometimes. And workshops just started and are going to be on Tuesday and Thursday.

      Lunch at 14:30 for the team with another really tasty buffet of freshly cooked food.

      As it is Tuesday it is pizza night. So after taking a shower and relaxing a little we come together to enjoy some nice fresh pizza out the self build pizza oven. Really good pizza. 😍 we even had a fire and it was a really great evening.

      Then time for bed 😴
