Giro intorno al lago di St. Moritz. Giornata piacevole, fresca (-4), cielo velato. ๐ŸŒฒRead more

      Gletscher

      September 24, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ˜€๏ธ 8 ยฐC

Also Ofenpass dann Bernina.
War vom Fahrstil her gut passend.

      Bernina Express

      April 9, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ˜€๏ธ -2 ยฐC

Glacier Express: Zermatt to St. Moritz

      September 21, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ˜๏ธ 48 ยฐF

We boarded the 8:52 train in Zermatt for our all day ride on this iconic, panoramic train. ๐Ÿš‚.

The railway runs through green alpine valleys , hillsides of farmland and larch trees, alongside glacial rivers, in the shadow of mountain peaks. The landscape is dotted with chalets, cows, and sheep. The Swiss could have invented the word “pastoral.”

The train ride invites you to relax and immerse yourself in the countryside. There’s even a channel on the entertainment system that plays endless Swiss folk tunes!

An onboard restaurant serves passengers drinks and meals cooked from scratch on board. They offer a selection of Swiss traditional foods and some international dishes.

We were seated next to a multigenerational family of six who were visiting Switzerland from Singapore. Their little ones (ages 4 and 6) behaved beautifully for their 6 hour ride. We enjoy talking with the parents and grandparents. It was amazing how alike our families were, despite living at opposite sides of the planet. Travel is not just eye-opening, it can be heart-opening as we realize how alike we all are.

A highlight of the trip is the Landwasser Viaduct , a single-track six-arched curved limestone railway viaduct. Opened 1902, it has stood the test of time and is an engineering marvel.

We cruised into a very quiet St. Moritz - asleep until the BIG winter ski season. We’re just here overnight. Tomorrow we head to Zurich.

      St Moritz

      January 13 in Switzerland โ‹… โ˜€๏ธ -4 ยฐC

As we aren't the most avid skiiers, and St Mortiz is mostly a ski town, we kept our plans simple and tried to wander around the river and see what the town has to offer. What we found was that we do not have the gear capable of spending much time in the snow. We began our day with a quick body warming Gluhwein before cracking onto the river walk. Because the start of the walk is protected from the sun by the mountain, the icy path and the slight breeze was piercing through our many layers. It didn't take long until I had completely lost feeling in my toes and had to pick up the pace to try and find some sun again. About halfway through the walk, my toes began to seriously hurt, I simply didn't have the shoes capable of surviving in these alpine regions. Although I did thoroughly enjoy the walk, I enjoyed the second half more where I could soak up some rays and let myself thaw out. Luckily, the moment we began walking in the sun, my toes stopped hurting, regained feeling, and began functioning properly. Although quite weak at this time of the year, the difference the direct sunlight makes on your body is insane. As such, we completed our walk around the perimeter by ending where we started yesterday, at the train station. Here we found a cafe where we could stop for a Gluhwein and rest. After this, we began our tour of the town to see what might be on offer. Though the town centre was as small as the town itself, it had all the stores that you might expect from a luxury alpine ski town. Gucci, Prada, and all the rest lined the streets. This made our wander significantly quicker as we obviously saw no desire to pop in and have a look around. That being said, we could hardly complain as the town itself was beautiful and warranted exploring. The tiny houses with pointy rooves, unique architecture, and colours truly made the walk worth it on its own. We saw a few landmarks that the city has, mostly a couple tours, before continuing back down the hill toward our hostel. We stopped for some groceries again to keep us going as cheaply as possible before calling it a day.Read more

      Hotel Hauser

      September 21, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ˜๏ธ 48 ยฐF

Our overnight in St. Moritz is the Hotel Hauser.

The hotel uses all natural, local materials in its construction- larch wood and pine, quartzite tile, and woolen textiles. On request, you can get a pillow filled with pine shavings! They recommend it highly, so we’re both sleeping with one tonight.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, a Rick Steves recommended “good value.” It was excellent!

They also have a bakery. Perhaps we’ll pick up some snacks tomorrow morning for our train ride to Zurich.

      Heidi, Bob und Moritz

      May 29, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ›… 10 ยฐC

      July 8, 2023 in Switzerland โ‹… โ›… 8 ยฐC

Her endte dagens etappe på Corona Hotel Tirano.
