      Klettern am Railey Beach

      Was mache ich an meinem letzten Tag in Krabi? Diese Entscheidung fiel mir nicht leicht, da mir das Tauchen sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat, ich aber auch neue Abenteuer erleben wollte. Schließlich habe ich mich fürs Klettern entschieden. Da das Wetter eher bewölkt vorhergesagt war und dachte ich mir, dass das beim Klettern besser ist als beim Tauchen. Gesagt getan. Am Sonntagmorgen wurden wir also um 8 Uhr abgeholt, genug Zeit um vorher noch ein Frühstück zu organisieren und dann ging es auch schon los. Zuerst ist es immer eine "Sammeltour" bis alle Teilnehmer auf einem Transporter sitzen, meistens ziemlich eng, dann geht es zum jeweiligen Standort des Veranstalters und dann zum eigentlichen Ort. Dieses Mal war es etwas anders, es ging aufs Boot und nach 20 Minuten kamen wir dann am Railey Beach an. Dieser ist sehr bekannt, unter anderem eben auch fürs Klettern. Dort ging es dann in den Shop um die Ausrüstung anzupassen und mitzunehmen und dann auch schon Richtung Strand zu den Felsen. Ich mit einer Klettererfahrung von... Ja, einmal in der Halle gebouldert- war natürlich ganz euphorisch, wie immer halt. Die Guides hatten ruckzuck alles aufgebaut und dann ging es auch schon an die Wand. Durchs Crossfit habe ich eigentlich selten Probleme bei sportlichen Aktivitäten, weil ich einfach Kraft und Ausdauer habe. Das hat mir auch hier geholfen. Bis auf eine Route haben alle auf Anhieb geklappt. Nur eine, bei der man einen Felsvorsprung überwinden musste, nicht. Ich habe den Weg nicht gefunden und irgendwann hat mich auch die Kraft verlassen. Lustigerweise hat es beim zweiten Versuch sofort geklappt, fragt mich nicht. Auf jeden Fall hat es viel Spaß gemacht und wie es sich gehört, habe ich die anderen immer kräftig angefeuert. In weiser Voraussicht, dass die Arme irgendwann dicht machen, hatte ich nur einen halben Tag gebucht und so ging es für die zweite Tageshälfte an den Strand, der auf Railey wirklich einer der schönsten in ganz Thailand ist. Am Abend wollten wir uns noch den Sonnenuntergang ansehen, der uns aber durch viele Wolken verwehrt blieb. Dafür gab es eine Feuershow, die auch wirklich toll war und so endete auch mein letzter Tag in Aonang.Baca lagi

      Khao Sok - Manmade Beauty

      My next stop in Thailand brought me to the Khao Sok National Park. It is a huge area and the key feature there is its massive lake, which is manmade and a direct result of a dam that was built a few decades ago. I opted to join an overnight tour because it allowed me to sleep in an overwater bungalow on the lake.

      The day started with a c. 1h bus ride from my accommodation to the lake's boat pier. From there we hopped on the boat and drove through the national park. I have to say, its massive limestones, the colour of the water and the tranquility of this place was much more than I imagined. It is a beautiful piece of nature - even if it is manmade.

      Once we arrived at our overwater bungalows, we quickly changed into our swimwear and jumped into the lake. Park regulations demand that we always wear a life jacket, but luckily they did not define 'wear' - so most of the group that I joined threw the life jacket into the water and then swam in its very close proximity.

      Anyway, after a couple of hours of swimming, lounging and exploring the bungalows, we hopped back on the boat for a short ride in order to see a small cave. To get there, we took a little 30 minute stroll and a bamboo raft. The cave was nice with its animal-looking stones, but not comparable to others I have already seen on this trip.

      Once out of the cave, we hopped back on the boat for a little night safari, but did not really see anything apart from a little eagle.
      In the evening, we had dinner at our bungalows, looked at the stars (no light pollution) and chatted about travel, life and many other things.

      The next morning, it was an early start at 6.30am for a morning boat safari. A couple of us woke up a bit earlier than that and went straight for a dip in the lake, before the safari. During the safari, we hoped to spot wild elephants, but were unlucky and 'only' managed to see monkeys playing up high in a tree.

      Then it was already time to say goodbye to the bungalows and we were heading back onshore. It was a very lovely two days in the park that I can only recommend.

      For me, it was now finally time to go to Thailand's famous islands in the south.      Baca lagi

      So we went on an over night train last night which was strange but in the morning we got off a 5:30 and traveled to this national park where we stayed the night in floating houses

      Schwimmende Häuser - Cheow Lan Lake

      Heute gings für zwei Tage auf den riesigen Stausee inklusive Übernachtung auf einem der schwimmenden Dörfer. Die Vorfreude war riesig.

      Gleich am Morgen gings auf das Longtailboot. 1.5h gings mit dem Boot über den See, vorbei an riesigen Kalksteinfelsen und hügligen Bergen in Richtung Rafting House. Zum ersten Mal sahen wir von weitem das ein oder andere Boot mit ein paar Touristen, die ihre orangen Rettungsvesten trugen. Ob wir hier doch noch ein paar Touristen treffen würden? Wir waren gespannt.

      Am Ende unsere Bootstour gelangten wir zu unserem Rafting House, welches wir gebucht haben. Vor uns sahen wir das kleine schwimmende Dorf mit ca. 30 Häuschen. Ausser uns und den Mitarbeitern war aber niemand hier, die Touristen blieben also eine entdeckung aus der Ferne. Da wir alleine waren, teilten uns die netten Mitarbeiter mit, wir dürften uns ein Häusschen selber auswählen. Dass, was wir dann bekommen haben, hätten wir uns vermutlich sonst nicht leisten können. Wir haben das Häusschen in vollen Zügen genossen und schliefen überglücklich mit den Dschungelgeräuschen ein!      Baca lagi

      Cheow Lan Lake Tag 2 - Khao Sok

      Am nächsten Tag sind wir ganz früh mit dem Boot rausgefahren um die Natur und deren Tierwelt zu entdecken. Und wir hatten so ein Glück! Nicht weit von der Unterkunft hat bereits ein anderes Boot an einem Dschungelarm gewartet. Lautes krachen der Bäume hat uns nur ahnen lassen, dass es wilde Elefanten waren. Es war eine getrennte Herde, die über den Dschungel hinweg mit lauten Rufen miteinander kommuniziert haben. Wir dachten wir sind im Jurassicpark. Nach langem warten, viel Geduld und Positionswechsel hat sich dann doch ein ca. 15 Jahre alter Elefant uns gezeigt. So ein einzigartiger Moment und so selten. Wir sind so dankbar, dass wir das erleben durften!
      Danach ging es zurück frühstücken und Sachen packen. Denn nach einem Schwimm- und Klippenspringen-Ausflug ging es wieder zurück ins Jungle Camp, wo wir noch eine Nacht dran gehängt haben.      Baca lagi

      Waterlogged

      Finally a unique title! But at the expense of copious amount of rain today. The morning started out promising for our overnight excursion to Cheow Lan Lake but the rain started to come, and stayed more than the previous two days. Our long tail boat didn’t use a cover and when I later asked if they could put it up, they said no because of the wind, which I’m doubtful about since we saw other boats that had theirs on.

      The nature here is without a doubt stunning and would be even more so in the dry season with blue skies, but the misty clouds adds an allure if you can deal with the rain. Bring a poncho. Bring water shoes.

      After lunch, we checked into our raft houses for the night. They’re cute, basic though you can upgrade to as comfortable as you want, but keep in mind because it’s an experience the prices are higher than expected.

      Our after lunch activity included 3 stops. Unfortunately we were hammered with rain for much of it (and the boat had no cover in place). First up was a short jungle hike when the rains came down and the paths started to muddy. It was a brisk walk. 2nd stop was Pra Kai Perth Caves, a one way system underground. It was unlit so we used head torches. In addition to the seeing the formations inside, there were also a couple of spiders and baby bats.

      When we returned to the boat, we were told to remove our shoes, for reasons we’re still trying to understand the next day as our shoes were already wet and getting wetter being on the open boat. One thought was the boat driver didn’t want any mud on the boat, perhaps he’d just cleaned it but that seems odd considering the weather. The last stop was a viewpoint of the 3 rocks which is the symbol of the lake.

      Once back the raft houses, we tried to dry our clothes and shoes as best we could but I’d resigned to the fact that they would be (and were) still wet in the morning.

      The evening wasn’t as peaceful as we thought as there was a big group staying here as well. I have a funny feeling it was a yolo group from Contiki given the size of the group and the flowing alcohol.      Baca lagi
