    Flying to Washington DC

September 5, 2017 in the United States

    Yay! I have a 2 nights layover @ Washington!
Yves immediately wanted to join me so we could combine this with a short visit to Jeanne & Patrick in West-Virginia. We never went to Morgantown before, so this was our chance!!
Yves was the lucky bastard... he could enjoy business class all the way to US. For me... it was another day at work... so I was on duty for 8 hours... 😉

October 26, 2016 in the United States

More travelling today. Although the journey was not too long, we still manged to enter three new states.

On arrival in DC we both felt more tired than usual. We decided on taking it easy in the evening and hitting all the sites tomorrow.

    Song of the Day:
Jimi Hendrix - Foxy Lady (went through Delaware and this song came on in the car. For the Wayne's World fans out there)

December 6, 2015 in the United States

We first arrived at Washington and went out for tea we then done a tour at night around to all the monuments and such, the Lincoln memorial was very impressive it looked unreal! We then headed home had couple drinks and called it a night. The following morning we had breakfast then caught the bus into town. We checked out the space musuem which i didnt find all that interesting really. Went to the holocaust musuem next which was fairly full on! Alot of very disturbing photos and videos. After the holocaust we needed a pick me up socwent for lunch n few beers. Ended up going home and everyone went out to shenanigans which was a fun night. Next day i didnt bother with anymore musuems. Lounged around until the nba which was washington wizards vs dallas mavericks. Was a close game with the mavericks winning by about 10 in the end.Read more

    D.C.:troppi musei per due giorni

July 29, 2017 in the United States

    Washington

June 18, 2016 in the United States

Breakfast at 7 when it opened. Love this hotel - it's in a great position, although it's. a bit of a walk to the Mall, but the staff are very friendly, the room is spacious and the 'extras' like all day coffee and water etc are great. Most of the staff are African and always great you with a 'welcome back' when you return.
After breakfast we went for a walk around the neighbourhood to take some photos. The houses are gorgeous and very well maintained and it's a bit like living locally when you stay here.
Stopped for lunch at Indigo Landing, by the river. A beautiful spot, very peaceful.
After lunch we went to the Thomas Jefferson Library of Congress building - what a magnificent building. The ceiling in the dome is stunning and the floors are beautiful inlaid marble. A truly beautiful building. There were several exhibitions on but the most interesting to me was the Jacob Rhiis: How the Other Half Lives, an exhibition of photos etc of the tenement dwellers in NYC. Very poignant photos. We walked to the Mall to the Air & Space Museum. It's easy to see that it is the most popular of the Smithsonians - it was absolutely packed, people everywhere. Walked back through the National Botanic Garden to our room for a wine and to rest our feet as we'd been walking pretty much all day. When we were ready to eat we walked to Eastern Market but didn't find anything there so we walked back to Tortilla Coast, a Mexican Restaurant near the hotel. Really good Mexican food!
Some shots of the Capitol Hill neighbourhood.
The second last shot shows the front of the hotel with free bikes for use by guests and two water bowls by the pillar for four-legged guests!!

    Smithsonian und Capitol

October 25, 2017 in the United States

    Day 11 - Washington DC

May 26, 2017 in the United States

We arrived in Washington DC about 1.30pm and our room was ready. Great view again we can see the Pentagon, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and Capitol Building.

Dumped our bags and off we go on the Metro, First stop Lincoln Memorial. Wow this is pretty amazing. You could look straight up to the Washington Monument.

Next stop the White House. I wanted to know where the helicopters landed as the area did not look very big. It wasn't till the next day that we realized we were actually at the back of the White House. The front is what you see in the movies it was much more impressive.

We had hot dogs in the park and tried to capture photos of the squirrels without much success.

We looked in the White House souvenir shop and thought really hard about whether to buy a Donald Trump boxed Christmas Decoration for someone at home but couldn't decide who to give it to so didn't buy it.

Off back to hotel armed with goats brie cheese and french stick (tasted just like we were back in Paris again).

Dinner then bed as tomorrow there is a lot more to see in this very beautiful city.
