Frühstück bei Sequoia anstatt Tiffanys

Morgens um 3 gabs eine kleine Nachtstörung. Es handelte sich aber weder um Feuer oder Alarm oder Wasser oder Erdrutsch oder Ruhestörung oder gar Bär; nein, eine ganz profane Abkühlphase von sage und schreibe 18 Grad hatte uns brave Camperschläfer erwachen und erschaudern lassen! 🥶Eine Zusatzdecke musste her! Erst dann wurde wacker und wohlig weiter geschlafen😑🤫…
Am Morgen wurde es dann schnell wieder warm. Sowohl heisse Sonne wie warme Spiegeleier sorgten dafür. Die Spiegeleier wurden zwar nicht ganz unter den Seqouias, dafür aber unter Zedern, Fichten und dergleichen verspiesen. Vielleicht nicht wenig besser, aber auf jeden Fall ganz anders als bei Tiffanys.
Unser erfolgreicher Wegzug führte uns heute morgen dann wirklich zu den Seqouia Giganten. Und als Touristen unterwegs, wie wir es sind, musste es natürlich zuerst der gemäss Infos angeblich schönste, voluminöseste und älteste Seqouia-Riesenbaum der Welt sein, dem wir hallo sagen wollten. Es handelte sich um den General Sherman Tree. Als wir auftauchten, stand der General salopp und stramm da und liess sich auch bei unserem Anblick nicht lumpen oder aus der Fassung bringen. Deshalb war es uns eine Freude, diesen genussvoll und intensiv und staunend zu betrachten und für unser Archiv abzulichten… Er hatte nichts dagegen einzuwenden und wir zogen unsere Route zu den weiteren Riesen via Congress Trail. Das Alter von General Sherman und sein Volumen wird auf 2200 Jahre und 1500m3 geschätzt, sein Umfang ist 31 Meter und seine Höhe beträgt 87m. Jeder Seqouia-Riesenbaum wie auch der fette General Sherman hatte schon mehr oder weniger an sich herum gezünselt. Auf der Vorderseite zB sehr oft eine einwandfreie Fassade, aber hinten herum eine fette Brandnarbe oder manchmal auch grad umgekehrt. Aber, Feuer ist für die Mammutbäume wichtig und sogar notwendig. Es war eine spezielle Vorstellung, vor diesen Riesen zu sein und nicht zu wissen, wann dass hier zum letzten Mal ein derart heftiger Feuerbrand gewütet hatte. Es mussten mindestens viele dutzende wenn vielleicht nicht hunderte Jahre bei einigen Bereichen her sein, da darum her eine grüne Vegetation mit auch wieder sehr grossen weiteren fetten und unversehrten jüngeren Bäumen besteht.
Wir kehrten via Shuttlebus zu unserem parkierten Camper zurück und fuhren Richtung Yosemite Park. Wir fanden unseren nächsten Campground namens Summerdale unmittelbar vor dem Südeingang des Yosemite und es gab noch eine kleine Überraschung. Wir hatten bei der Reservation leicht geschummelt, da nur noch ein einziger Platz im ganzen Park frei war und die Länge unseres Campers auf 22 Fuss reduziert. Das rächte sich nun - nur mit Ach und Krach liess sich unser längeres Gefährt noch hinstellen, aber mit Demontage des Reservationspfostens und der einen Camperseite über den Randbalken darunter, was grad knapp 2, 3 cm über den Eingeweiden des Campers ausmachte, konnten wir ihn auf und neben dem vorgesehenen Feld parkieren. Der freundliche ältere Parkwart fuhr stoisch und ohne eine Miene zu verziehen an uns vorbei…Leia mais
