    Arches National Park

April 29 in the United States

We left the apartment just after 9am, final destination Moab, Utah with a stop at Arches National Park.

Moab was not originally on our itinerary but after hearing about it and the 2 national parks in the area, we decided to do 1 less night at Mesa Verde and have one night in Moab to be able to visit Arches National Park and Canyon lands National Park. Elisa really wanted to do a jet boat tour on the Colorado River but no tour company would take anyone under 4 years.

The park was busy and even had it's own radio station. We were able to do a scenic drive through the national park but we also did 3 hikes.

The hikes were relatively easy and less than a mile. Brandon did great. Sand dunes arch was our favourite as the sand was fun to walk in.

Brandon received his junior ranger badge and to get this one he had to sit for 10 minutes and just listen to the environment, and he did it.

That night we made it to the Moab KOA about 5pm, put up tent and blow up beds and was at the Moab brewery for dinner by 630. The brewery was busy and we had a nice dinner.

    Moab

April 3, 2015 in the United States

As we reach the outskirts of Moab we see the first of the famous red rock arches right next to the road . We have just 2 nights at the beautiful Sunflower Inn B & B which is an oasis of quite compared to what is an extremely busy town which is overrun with 4 by 4s. We arrive to find all restaurants are fully booked so we borrow a toaster and cook up some toast and various leftovers !Read more

    RV Update

June 25, 2016 in the United States

RV has been working out well. Figured out most of the quirks. Big enough that we're not on top of one another. Surprised at how quickly I've become used to driving it - all except for the crazy long wheel base (found a few curbs!) A bit scary how wode we are and tough to remember we have mirrors oirlt anither 18". Speed around turns is critical. I even parallel parked the sucker! Only one bowl broken from bumps so far (I wasn't driving!) Have to be a bit clever, but all our gear fits fine. Not too impressed with Thor build quality - definite rental stock - but no major complaints. AC works well, which is priority #1 these days. Amazing how quickly it becomes a mess - somehow the kids aren't as concerned about putting things away. Tracking in red dirt every time we go in/out doesn't help either!

    Departing Moab

June 27, 2016 in the United States

Another slow morning - L played with a boy from Belgium (family is relocating to Michigan for work the next few years) while I made scrambled eggs. Refueled, replenished Tom's stock of lemon iced tea, and stopped for some local pasteries.

Been three nice days in Moab. Wish we had longer - lots of adventure activities, museums, and hikes we could do nearby.

Heading into the home stretch - only 5 more nights until we turn in the RV! Think we'll all be ready to head for home by then. Funny that each day seems really long, yet the trip is racing by!

Only four more states left in the license plate game (AS, DE, ND, & WV - yep, even have Hawaii!) - most we've seen a lot of times! Pretty neat to see people from all over the country and world enjoying the same sites we are! :-)
