    RT - Day 11 - Boise->Burns->Lincoln City

    September 3, 2017 in the United States

    Boise [ˈbɔisi] -> Burns -> Lincoln City: 519 Miles / 835 km

    Angekommen in Boise haben wir uns Abends nach kurzer Goole Maps-Recherche entschlossen, nach Voltage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage,_Oregon) am weltbekannten Malheur (!) Lake (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malheur_Lake) zu fahren. Burns, die einzige größerer Ansiedlung in der Gegend war daher unser Ziel.
    Die Fahrt von dort nach Voltage war recht unterhaltsam, da sich die Straße zwischenzeitlich in eine Schotterpiste verwandelte, unsere Staubfahne sicherlich kilometerweit sichtbar war und wir uns ab einem bestimmten Punkt nicht mehr ganz sicher waren, ob wir uns auf Privatgrund befinden. Da niemand Lust hatte, erschossen zu werden, stoppten wir ca. 300m vor dem eigentlichen, bei Google Maps sichtbaren, "Ortskern" im Nichts. Mit etwas Phantasie waren aber dort noch die ehemaligen Straßen erkennbar.
    Am nächsten Tag ging es dann weiter, in einem Rutsch, in Richtung Küste. Zwischenstopp mit einem LEICHTEN Frühstück gab es an der Hampton Station (https://www.yelp.com/biz/hampton-station-cafe-brothers). Lecker war's!
    Weitere Highlights unterwegs: Bates Motel und der Shoe Tree - haha.
    Da aufgrund des Labor Days an der Küste so ziemlich alles ausgebucht war, hatten wir Glück, bei AirBNB noch ein Haus direkt am Meer zu bekommen. Der Blick von der Veranda und vom Wohnzimmer ist fantastisch! Hier werden wir bis Montag bleiben bevor es dann nach Portland geht- yaaay!

    Oregon Coast

    October 29, 2017 in the United States

    We've spent the last two weeks traveling south down the coast of Oregon. New favorite for sure. It's probably even more amazing in the summer with a little more sunshine and heat but we can't complain about the lack of people. We've combed mille long stretches of beach and tidepools without seeing another human. We found out we love exploring tidepools and we hit every low tide possible, even one during sunset. Highly recommended, you can see a lot of crazy shit with a flashlight in the tidepools when it's dark out! We especially loved the stretch of coast between Lincoln City and Newport. Beautiful sandy beaches, jagged rocky coves, marine wildlife and my favorite..."hidden" sea floats. Lincoln City hides beautiful hand blown glass floats randomly throughout the day on it's 7 miles of beach, everyday through winter. You bet your sweet ass I spent hours upon hours scouring the beach for 3 days straight. I'm still super salty I didn't find one and I bring it up almost everyday.😣 I'm really too lazy to tell you about everything we saw and did but if I could recommend one area it would be the central coast. Namely Devil's Churn, Spouting Horn and Cape Perpetua, we explored every square mile we could at those sites. We are getting ready to head into California tomorrow. We'll see how long it takes before all the people and traffic send us back to Oregon.

    Lincoln City

    September 29, 2015 in the United States

    We picked up a fourth member to add to our team in Lincoln City as we waited out a fog bank. Neda is from Montreal and vegan, so doesn't quite get our ice cream addiction, but instead of being stressed, we ate some desserts and Aaron even took his to go!

    Day 3 :

    September 21, 2016 in the United States

    Conquered my first big hill today. It was 754 feet in elevation. Not sure what the grade was but it was hard!!! It took me an hour and a half with many breaks .

    When I finally got to the top a guy in a truck driving the opposite direction stuck his head out the window and yelled "woohoo , good job "it made me smile insanely big , . . and cry. I couldn't stop for about half way down that huge ass hill.

    I didn't have much more left in me after that. I continued the short distance to Devil's Lake and made camp for the night.
    Btw why would they make the biker Campground UP a steep hill???

    After I had the tent set up I walked a short distance to grab a bite to eat and finally made my way to the beach. I couldn't do that last night I was on a cliff. I finally got to stick my feet in the sand, and walk in the extremely frigid Waters of the Pacific ocean.

    For me the beach always brings peace and healing. There's something about the combination of the crashing waves, the sand, the wind, and the Sun that works miracles. And for the second time today I cried. For absolutely no reason at all.

    I am figuring out what this trip is all about . t's about finding myself, it's about letting go, it's about healing ,and it's about growing.

    When I got back to camp I had my first conversation with other bikers. I especially liked a young couple named Rachel and Daniel from Arkansas who are biking from Spokane to San Fransisco. They gave me their contact info so I can stay with them when I go through.

    Lincoln City

    January 29, 2016 in the United States

    We decided to travel along the coast while driving through Oregon. After Astoria, we stopped at Tillamook to sample some cheese. They were a little chinseywith the samples and the cheese cost more at the factory than at Costco. Ended up spending our first night here in Lincoln City. Decided to stay at the Best Western here in town. Only about 2 miles away from the Chinook Wind Casino, so we HAD to go try out Kim's luck. It was no better than mine, we each lost about $40. But it did take several hours and a dinner to do it. Ended up going back to the hotel to sit in the hot tub and go swimming. At least the hot tub soaked off all the cigarette smoke from the casino. Overall, the weather was pleasant for traveling today, a few showers but mostly sunny and around 50. This ended our first day, 28 January 2016.Read more
