      Flodders paradise

      Da haben wir uns aber ein hübsches Fleckchen für unseren letzten Stop zum Packen ausgesucht😲. Wir sind auf einem ziemlich vergammeltem Dauercamperplatz gelandet. Die Camper hier haben besondere Freude daran, irgendwelchen Sperrmüll anzuhäufen und Planen darüber zu legen🙄. Oder Skelette aufzuhängen oder seltsame Flaggen, von denen ich gar nicht wissen will, welche Gesinnung sie kenntlich machen sollen, anzubammeln. Aber was soll's. Es gibt keine Alternative, wir haben es echt versucht 😂. Das Wetter ist bombastisch und wir waren ein paar Stunden am Pool (der einzige place to be hier) während Bernd Koffer-Tetris gespielt hat. Minigolf und Basketball gibt es natürlich auch und wir haben ein paar Runden gespielt. Den Kindern fällt der ganze Pröddel hier ja nicht auf. Max meinte eben, eigentlich wäre es der beste Platz, weil wir soooo lange schwimmen konnten 😂. Heute Abend werden wir noch versuchen ein paar Reste zu verwerten, der angepriesene Food Truck existiert natürlich seit vermutlich 10 Jahren nicht mehr, sodass wir unsere Notfallfischstäbchen mit Notfallreis und Notfallerbsen/Möhren essen müssen bei 34 Grad😂😂😂 jipiiiiiiiieeee!
      Egal. Max findet auch das prima. Gleich werden wir mal ein Kind suchen, dass sich über unser Spielzeug und Maxis Tretroller freuen wird. Unter irgendeiner Flodderplane wird schon noch Platz dafür sein😋

      Morgen um halb acht wollen wir spätestens weg sein und um elf werden wir dann von der Womovermietung zum Flughafen gebracht. Und dann geht es nach Hause!      Read more

      Princeton und Philadelphia

      Ursprünglich war geplant, Princeton zu Fuß zu erkunden.
      Gestartet wurde beim Institute for Advanced Study bei leichtem Regen. Daher fiel die Erkundung zu Fuß buchstäblich ins Wasser und die folgenden Orte (Häuser einiger Berühmtheiten wie John von Neumann, Alonzo Church oder Kurt Gödel) wurden per Auto angefahren. Auf dem Princeton Cemetery ging der Regen dann in Schneeregen über. Unter diesen Umständen hatte ich keine Lust zu Fuß durch das Unigelände zu stapfen. Plan B: Fahrt nach Philadelphia, obwohl ich dort ursprünglich nicht hin wollte.
      So habe ich dann aber die Independence Mall kennengelernt mit der Liberty Bell sowie Independence- und Convention Hall. Der Führer erzählte noch ein wenig über die Umstände der Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeit, wie z.B. britische Steuern wg. Kosten des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Interessant auch, dass die 13 Staaten sich nicht auf eine Hauptstadt einigen konnten und das heutige Washington als "Districct of Columbia" als zu keinem Staat zugehörig aus dem Boden gestampft wurde. Für die Bauzeit von 10 Jahren wurde PHiladelphia provisorische Hauptstadt. Hier fand auch die Inauguration der zweiten Amtszeit George Washingtons statt. Das Wahlrecht wurde von den Einzelstaaten festgelegt. In Pennsylvenia musste man einen Besitz im Wert von 50 Pfund Sterling nachweisen (ungefähr 10 Monatslöhne), in Virgina war Landbesitz Bedingung. IMposant war auch dei City Hall von Philadelphia.
      Nach einem kurzen Abstecher nach Trenton ging es zurück nach Princeton, wo der Regen inzwischen aufgehört hatte. Der Tag endete mit einem indischen Essen und Spaziergang auf der Nassau Street.      Read more

      Six Flags (New Jersey)

      Nachdem wir die letzten Tage immer deutlich länger für alle Fahrtstrecken benötigt haben als geplant, entscheiden wir uns heute dementsprechend früher los zu fahren, um pünktlich zur Parköffnung anzukommen.
      Die bedeutet das wir kurz vor 5:00 Uhr früh aufstehen und um 5:30 bereits auf dem Weg nach Jackson New Jersey sind.

      Nachdem das Wetter heute entgegen aller Ankündigungen erstaunlich gut ist und es nahezu keine Warteschlangen im Park gibt, sind wir wirklich froh das wir unsere Route nochmals umgestellt hatten nachdem wir ursprünglich am letzten Wochenende hier gewesen wären. (Am Wochenende war der Park Berichten zu folge überfüllt und es hat geregnet.)

      Der Park ist das absolut richtig für uns Adrenalinjunkies. Hier gibt es neben der höchsten Achterbahn der Welt (Kingda Ka), auch einen Flying Coaster (Superman) und viele, viele andere....
      Durch die geringen Wartezeiten haben wir sogar die Möglichkeit alle Coaster mehrfach zu fahren. ♥️      Read more

      Passport Health

      Eventhough we had almost an hour to our 1:00pm appointment we decided to go look for the office after parking by the office block the navigator took us to. Apparently there are a lot of medical practices in the building including a clinic.

      Passport Health was located on the 2nd floor (Americans count ground floor as 1st floor). We told the lady at the front desk we had an appointment, she checked and confirmed on her system, told us to sit down and wait, later she gave us a form to fill some basic information and make payment. The covid test was quite expensive $280/person but result comes out quickly. She then called us into the office and took a nasal swab.

      Unlike the nasal swab we did in Nigeria this was done mid nose, the lady was scrubbing around the mid nose with a lot of pressure and took both nose.

      SUPERMARKET, HIKE & DRIVE

      Lazier day at first and we went to the local supermarket - fun looking at all the different products and self-laser scanning. After lunch and a rest, we went for a hike around the Hartshorne Valley area. Lovely 4 km in different woodland with some sea views. The drive back was through gorgeous areas where there were many huge houses. Even Bruce Springsteen lived there before. Yeh!! We also enjoyed an amazing pork rib dinner with cucumber & lime cocktails! Rick & Molly are lovely people to be with. Also adding some photos of Princeton from last night :)Read more

      Day 13

      It's snowing and it is so pretty

      Easter Monday and we woke up to very pretty snow falling. We had a very relaxed day planning, sewing (my hem) and bird watching. Craig needed a slower day for his back. Molly is a very knowledgeable bird watcher. After washing and planning in the afternoon we went out With Rick do you have a look around Freehold. Yes that is Bruce Springsteen‘s hometown ❤️❤️❤️
      In the evening we took Rick and Molly out for dinner to a local Turkish restaurant called Galata. The food was yummy but the serves were ginormous. Craig then talked them Into taking us to a local Costco which is almost identical to The one in Adelaide.      Read more

      Freehold - goodbye Manhattan, hello NJ

      This morning we checked out and went for a walk for our final meal together. We chose the restaurant called THE SMITHS not far from our Cambria suites hotel. The location has been very good for us. The breakfast was huge!! I ordered a granola with berries and yoghurt, which was yummy, but Craig ordered the Brioche French toast – huge!! We then all walked up to H&M for undies, tee shirts etc. and eventually said goodbye and parted at Macey’s. Craig bought a great red and white floral shirt and then we went back to the hotel, got bags and walked to the NJ Transit station. We had to wait for the platform to be listed and then everyone rushed to get on the train. A lovely, strong black woman helped me with my bag down the stairs and we got on the train fine. All went on time and Rick and Molly were there to meet us. They have a lovely, spacious, pretty home and we really enjoyed being welcome. We went into nearby Red bank for a vegan dinner at Good Karma. It was fine – my buffalo wings made of reconstituted protein were quite spicy. Back home for chatting. Craig’s back has been bad today and he had a difficult phone call with Phil about his mother. However, we also spoke to mum and Luke and Alexander and it seems better than we thought for now.Read more

      Service, sculptures & Princeton

      Today after breakfast we went to a memorial service for “tid” a friend of the Goldbergs. It proved to be a lovely interesting experience. She was clearly an accomplished kind woman. We also met some really nice people. Back home and we got organised and went to the sculpture park which was huge. There were many very interesting sculptures there And we spent several hours wondering around The gardens. After that we drove to Princeton the University town. Had a great meal at Dixon’s.
      and then walked around the University present area which is Old but beautifully maintained with gorgeous buildings.
