Lincoln's Tomb and Home, Springfield, Il

      October 25, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

This morning we got to the train station just in time to get on ours to Springfield to visit with Manish and Manjarie. Manish picked us up and we went straight to Oak Wood Cemetery to see Lincoln’s Tomb. Drove around the cemetery a little bit then went to Lincoln’s home. It and the land and homes surrounding it are part of the National Park Service. We took a tour, walked around, then went home and helped Manish with dinner — traditional Nepalese momos, chicken and Book Choy.Read more

      Lincoln locations in Springfield

      September 19, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Was a slightly difficult night for sleep; warm, muggy, then rain and lightning. It was nice to have a relatively cool morning, although it did not last long.
IHOP just happened to be down the street so enjoyed a quick breakfast at really one of Toms favorite breakfast stops. Then drive back until Springfield just to get in a couple of more Lincoln stops.
First was Oak Ridge Cemetry for his tomb. Very well located on a hill in the cemetery. Really well done. You walk through a circular path, much like a masoleum, and there are several niches with sculptures off Lincoln fromm various ages of his life. Tombs for Mary and 3 of the 4 boys they had are here as well. The only son that did survive was buried at Arlington.
Sincere we were already downtown we did a quick drive by you see the state capital building, and finally to take a look at the Lincoln home. Once he left for Washington as president he never actually lives here again. We really enjoyed and appreciated the time we had to reaquaint ourselves with Lincoln and his impact.
Headed back to IHOP, we had dropped the jeep to drive in town. Hooked back up and headed to st.louis, just about 100 miles. We are overnighting at a KOA IN Granite City, which is still in Illinois, north and east of St. Louis. Hot, muggy and so thankful that we have an awesome AC. It was 96°, the all-time record for this day in history was 97°. You can't imagine the discussions we have about who should be walking the pup...or maybe you can! The weather person was very optimistic that tomorrow we would see a record setting temperature!

      Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum

      September 18, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Drove most of the morning to arrive in Springfield, Illinois at about noon. Had a bit of a hiccup as we tried locking up the RV and couldn't find the door and storage keys. After about 30 minutes they were located but both Tom and we drenched in sweat... Finally got the generator going, animals settled, ands we went into the museum.
We both loved this museum. As you moved through the chronological exhibits you just felt like you got a closer look at house life. It was like reading a book in an afternoon. And we both forgot just how significant he was as a president. Just a great experience AND reminder there we are "all created equal".
Fortunately our overnight stay was right in Springfield so not too far to drive. This overnight was through Harvest Host again. This host was Springfield Beer Company.
Cute little brewery with ready parking lot to navigate and right next to a hamburger place. We were able to get burgers and then head into the brewery to eat then with some local beer and watch football. Unfortunately Las Vegas lost, again.
So warm that we left the generator on so that's we could run the AC. Only downside is collectively both of these units make some noise, so after tossing and turning we turned them off. But it's had us in time to experience a real thunder and lightning show!

      Day 12 - The Alamo

      September 24, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Unfortunately we did not play in the basement. Regardless, this gig was cool. When we first got there we found out we were super early because they decided to push the gig to 7:30. Plus there was some kind of memorial happening. We decided to go get a sandwich but when we got back everyone wanted to talk to us so we didn’t get to eat. There were people from St. Louis and elsewhere who came out that I recognized.

The set was good, although we played tons of tunes super fast. The big problem was sound. The guy they had put like twenty monitors plus subwoofers and kept upping the volume during guitar solos and such. Ridiculous.

After the gig we went and got some stuff at the gas station then went back to our rooms. Good night overall. By the way, I had half of my sandwich during break.

Yeah, that’s Abe Lincoln. This mural was staring at me all night.

      Day 7 - The Alamo

      July 11, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Today’s drive was a bit long. Around six hours. We started our drive and landed up at Steve Fazio’s again to pick up two amps Doug left for repair. We returned the 2x10 and Doug told him he didn’t like it, which we were informed it had the cheapest speakers possible with smooth cones not to mention it was wired for lower wattage. we then made our way to Springfield.

Like last time in Springfield, we have two rooms at the State House Inn. Since this is the land of Lincoln the hotel has tons of pictures of him throughout including the rooms. We checked in and got ready as we needed to get to a restaurant to meet a blues society guy.

We get to this little brewery/restaurant and this dude runs out and tells us he’s in their beer garden. The menu has like four things and we’re informed it’ll take 45 minutes at least. This is also when the guy says he already ate. So we went to their normal restaurant and all got baby sized salads and talked to him for an hour or so and then headed to the club.

The show overall went great. Bob Keiser of Blues Blast was there and the crowd was good for a Monday. It was also good to have Andrew back and not random bass players. It was a really fun night. We did have a guitarist sit in, named T-Mo or whatever. Doug simply said to me “it’s my turn tonight!” Double guitar shred. During the set Doug’s amp he just got back started making insane noises (video below) so he had to swap for his big amp which he also just got back. That one was fine.

After the gig we tore down and the guitarist said he had a ton of drumsticks which he gave me, all completely shredded up and no use. I tried to leave them but they kept getting handed back to me so I just threw them away. After leaving we wanted to get food and everywhere was closed, even Arby’s which Doug really wanted. We went to a gas station and they had nothing. We even went to Dominos and they wouldn’t let us order for some insane reason, so we finally went to McDonalds and waited in line for an hour.

We finally got back to the hotel and I was exhausted. I pretty much slept instantly.

      Update

      March 14, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 50 °F

Wow, I just woke up, and it's about 10 am! Never do I ever sleep this late. The time change was just yesterday, so we lost an hour. I've been home for 10 days now. It's been a whirlwind of making tie dye. Everything I've made has been in the Electric Forest color way. I should be stocked on those colors for a while now, but they are my best sellers. Friday was an ice dye expirament to try and find some easy quick styles I can make that will bring a lot of money. This morning, they are ready in the dryer, and I'm so psyched to see how they came out!

Yesterday, I did a lot of personal catch-up. My basement had become a wreck with my stuff kind of thrown everywhere, from only focusing on tie dye for 10 days. It had become quite a disaster. So I organized, straightened up, and did a little bit of ice dye swatches, worked on some tapestries that had been staring me down for days. My tie dye dryer had stopped working on Friday, so I watched a ton of YouTube to try and diagnose the problem. I concluded it was probably the timer switch and ordered one on Amazon for $70. It arrived yesterday. I took the dryer apart and replaced the piece. It still did not work. YouTube consulted with me again, and I further took the machine apart and finally concluded that it was the thermal fuse. I almost electrocuted myself once I solved the mystery because I was too excited to remember to unplug the machine again to handle the wires. No harm, though, thankfully! I ran around town, making some returns and looking for a thermal fuse. You cannot buy them anywhere in town. I got one on order from Amazon and then thought to message Lonnie, who I buy all my washers and dryers from, and see if he had the part handy. He did and offered to meet me at his shop in an hour!!! I felt such great success! I solved mystery, and all the machines were functioning again, and I felt victorious!

Over the weekend, I've been struggling with binge eating sugary foods. This is not helpful on my weight loss journey. Today, I am committed to getting back on my track. I haven't taken phentermine in 3 days and today is my day to stop obsessing with snacking again. I'm scared to weigh in but feel like I should. I'm 5'6" and have been weighing around 140lbs and 16% body fat. I would be very happy to get down to 130 with 14% body fat. So, that is my goal. I have 2 weeks to accomplish it before heading back down to Mexico.

My dream last night was completely wild! I was finishing up some kind of activity and happened to walk past a music festival, a huge one. So, I stopped and snuck in. I immediately saw Jeremy, and we reunited with glee. It wasn't even like there was any romance; we were just great friends happy to see each other. Apparently, we were in Vegas, and I helped him with his booth for a little while and went off to explore. There were tons of activities like kangaroo bouncing shoes, raised walkways, canals to swim, sup, and kayak in. It rained, but I still felt beautiful and energetic and excited to try all these festival things that I never get to experience while I'm working. I was giddy for the whole time, which is probably how I slept so late this morning... Just having way too much fun in my sleep!

Today, I will get back after crazy productivity. I've got tons of stuff I would like to make and no time to waste!!! Mexico photo shoots are calling me!!!

      Scheel’s

      December 17, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 41 °F

We needed to stop in Springfield. Instead of the local hotel, I noticed the sporting goods store.

I immediately called Sherrie, cause she recommended this place (Denver location) several years ago.

It had an indoor Farris-wheel. One dollar. Of fun! Merry Christmas to us.
