      Museums

      May 26, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

      boston

      November 2, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 2 °C

when russ picked me up at the airport, i basically hadn't slept for more than 30 hours. to my pleasant surprise, he had decided to book a room in the boston hilton instead of having through the night to his house in new hampshire.

we got along well right from the start and there were so many new impressions all around me that i couldn't even really grasp everything. arriving at the hotel, i felt a bit out of place with my appearance, but that's nothing new at this point. in the room, i was greeted by russ' canine girlfriend wrigley and fell asleep as soon as i hit my bed.

the next morning, russ had a little meeting, so i had half an hour to go out and explore the city for a bit. the weather was beautifully chilly and the air felt super clear. everything was strangely unfamiliar and utterly fascinating, although really not far from what i knew. all the buildings, roads and cars around me were massive, but there was hardly anyone in sight. i was laughing to myself the entire time over the situation i had gotten myself in.

we checked out and the valet brought russ' jeep out. 60$ for one night of parking was the first of countless instances where, upon looking at american price tags, i was convinced i must be dreaming. (for the sake of readability, i'll try not to mention every one, just know i spent a significant amount of time trying to wrap my head around the prices.)

the majority of the 2 hour journey to sugar hill was spent speeding on perfect highway roads through fall forests, with the terrain growing more and more rough as we went.

      Against the Unterhopfung II

      September 29, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

      Deadline and extreme weather

      September 30, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Read more

Tag 3 / von NY nach Boston

      October 9, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Read more

      Boston, United States

      November 13, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Well after 6 straight days at sea, we finally arrived in Boston Massachusetts. As you will know this is where the American revolution started.
This was my first time in Boston and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. One of the things I wanted to do was to walk the Freedom Trail. This is a walk you can do around the city seeing all the points of interest concerning the revolution. I managed to get only 3 of them in, mainly due to Mr Google and his maps not working very well on my phone. But I digress. I got to see the Old South Meeting House, which was where in 1773, 5000 men met to protest against the "tea tax" imposed by the British government. This culminated in the famous Boston Tea Party, were after the British government rejected their protest a group of the men, crept down to the south Boston port area and boarded the tea clippers and dumped the majority of the tea into the harbour, and this action basically started the American revolution.
I also found the Old State House, which originally was the seat of British government before the revolution, and after became the office of the states first governor, John Hancock.
It was also from the state house balcony that the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was read on 18th July 1776.
Just outside the State House is the site of the Boston Massacre, which is where a group of British Redcoats opened fire on an angry group of protesters, killing 5 of them. The British government described it as the "unhappy disturbance in Boston", but Paul Revere labelled it as the "Boston Massacre". The British soldiers where tried for murder, but were defended by John Adams, a young Boston lawyer, who was as loyal to the idea of justice as he was to the patriot cause.

      "Where Everybody Knows Your Name"

      July 22, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Zoiets.

En nu pitten. Morgen Boston ontdekken.

      Boston Lobster @NoName

      September 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 22 °C
